  1. All those letters and a buck and a quarter will get you a cup of coffee. answer me this...how would crossbows being used during bow season affect YOU?
  2. I am not sure why a small game license is required other than what WNY said....CYA. Probably just want to make sure a Hunters safety course has been completed.
  3. Kids are cute....but I really like the tractor...lol
  4. Notice: Feral swine are a harmful, invasive species DEC is working to eradicate feral swine from NY's landscape. Hunters with small game hunting privileges may shoot and keep feral swine, at any time, and in any number. If you shoot or see a feral swine, please report it at [email protected]
  5. They are wild her in NY as well. There is a population in the Tully area. I know guys that have taken them. Those are game farm escapies. DEC actually has a section in the web site....nusiance animal...no season and any implement is legal ...small game license required
  6. I use one very similiar to this http://sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/osprey-laser-boresighter.aspx?a=676252 The .223 laser fits into the other cartriges and I even have on for 12 and 20 ga. shotgun shells. I went through a lot of this because of some trips I went on. I carried it to recheck to see it anything happened during transport. I bore sighted the rifles....rage zero'd them in and reinserted the bore sighter. I had to play around with the alignment of the cartrige in the gun but by rotating it clockwise or counter clockwise I got the dot perfect with my zero. I then removed the cartrige and scored a line at the 12 o'clock position on the brass. Perfect at 100 yards now and a real confidence booster after a 30 hour truck ride to a hunt. But I would never depend on that in the place of a range zero
  7. I couldn't agree more Doc.....maybe we should start talking on wether 20 ga. should be banned for deer hunting and see if we can at least get a few more fired up...lol
  8. If you can't see it for what it is, any further discussion is a waste of breath. I rest my case.
  9. That was not my question. If it were legalized or even offered as a vote in regular archery season. how would you vote?
  10. In typical fashion Chevy---you ARE imposing your view on others...you can not impose on a season. If you choose not to use one...don't.
  11. WNY---you are never going to be able to reason or discuss with emotional people....Too bad really. I can say with confidence that I am opposed to anyone "imposing" their view on any of us. I would choose not to use one and that is how it should be....MY choice, within the legal limits. I would have no problem with others using a x-bow during regular archery if it were legal...that is THEIR choice. We talk freedom and then go down this road amongst ourselves...sad
  12. I have run into copperheads on projects in WV but did't know they were in NY. I know we had a huge problem with them in the fall prior to their hybernation heading for anything waym. THey use to crawl up on the construction equipment at the end of the day for the warmth off the machines......makes for a very interesting morning the next day. Try to identify what they are eating...remove and the should move on. On my property we has 2 wet areas in the food plot. salamanders frogs and toads. Saw hundreds of garder snakes last year. since we drained it in the fall...not one this year.
  13. again Chevy your logic is flawed.....if you doubled the bowhunters in teh woods the take would only increase by 42%. comparing license sale vs actual total deer take. And I would bet the take percentage is less if you looked at bow stamp sales to bow kills
  14. Hell...Chevy...you were the one that started quoting Ohio. It is damn near impossible to get the pre cossbow numbers WNY. they have had it since 76. I looked because that is just what you need to see to make a call. The bottom line.. it is all about harvest numbers and DEC will adjust to account for any increases in take. It won't be a snap of the fingers increase to that many any how. The increase will be gradual. I have been unable to find any stastical information that backs up you claim Chevy that the numbers in the field would double. Do you have a reference?
  15. Sorry guys...It looked perfect in Word when I cut and pasted
  16. i guess I should have just posted the link...sorry....you are right in reading it. but in the 2 years since the numbers you posted both are up around 7 grand. and DNR is happy with the take according to their report. In comparison NY takes about the same number of deer as Ohio. I would believe due to our longer gun season 2009 Deer Harvest Comparison 2009 Total 2008 Total Percent Change Total Take 222,798 222,979 -0.1% Adult Male 102,057 105,747 -3.5% Antlerless 120,741 117,232 +3.0% Adult Female 84,330 79,953 +5.5% DMPs Issued 527,371 558,172 -5.5% DMP Take 89,458 86,417 +3.5% DMAP Take 9,789 10,010 -2.2% Muzzleloader 18,773 17,838 +5.2% Bowhunting 34,546 32,366 +6.7% If the number were to go up they would issue less DMPs
  17. If we run with you logic and look at the 2009 numbers. Archery take with bow is up since 2007...soooooooaddition of crossbow should make the actual traditional bowhunting better

  19. you are alson not taking into account the harvest with crossbows by those who "use" to hunt with Bows. I would like to see the numbers of harvest before the crossbow was legalized there
  20. CHevy....again...assuming the Ohio DNR knows what it is doing......the harvest was what they wanted. If they only wanted 50,000 taken the tag issued or the method of issuing would be adjusted. In NY if they saw a rise they would not have to issue the DMPs at the rate they are or the Double tags would be restricted to low pressure areas. Don't make it sound like the herd would be hunted to the verge of extinction.
  21. I dont want to get yelled at again or I would make a comment about him hiring illegal mexian dwarfs to build it
  22. NOt to put words in WNY mouth but to draw conclusions based on what you believe is going to happen would put you right in with the groups like the gun control folks. I am not trying to sound pissy but conclusions need to be drawn based on facts not supposition. One thing is clear to me here. This controversy is an all or nothing prospect to those involved on both sides. With all the "enemies" out there to us I would think we should be banded together and focusing on them. I also hunt North Zone and until 3 years ago when I started muzzleloading i hunted with my bow that last week before the gun opener. I still can't see when a Regulation such as that for the crossbow in the Southern Zone would not work.
  23. SO wich window will have the food plot planted outside of it?
