  1. I have been watching this debate and even participating since I joined not so long ago....seems like months though...LOL. Here is the line that I just can't get out of my head. If they passed a law allowing full crossbow use during deer season, how would that affect you guys that are opposing it. They are not forcing you to use one. Your woods would not be lit up with gun fire. It probably would increase traffic and that may interfer with normal petters depending on the tract of lands you hunt. I would choose not to use on since I do enjoyt hunting with my bow so much but the part of me that hates others imposing on me really doesn't see the harm. If I fill my archery and DMP tags with a bow or a crossbow....any difference? I think when that 3 blade slides through...bambi isn't worried about what it came from. The two side are NEVER going to agree on this..put me in office for a week...I'll settle it. Bow season with no crossbows except the last week. Corssbows legal during regular season even in srchery only areas. Corssbows legal in late bow/muzzleloader season.
  2. No $hit....it is huge.....VERY NICE---when is the camp warming party?
  3. You din't listen to him Chevy. He said it takes the same motion to pull the trigger on a crossbow as it does to pull the trigger on a release. Heis premise is drawing while the deers head was behind a tree or obstructed.
  4. My wife and daughter actuall wanted the rug....The guys in Canada said only 5% have the white on the chest and in 25 years they had not seen such a big V. If you can tell friom the picks there are actually 3 white dots above the V. If I made a rug I would have lost most of the white....$850 later ....there you go...and there went my new rifle
  5. Very nice...Heck you can spit to PA from there. I am not that far away from you with my cabin....20 min North of Binghamton
  6. Well I hunted this dee all bow season and he entered the meadow every day I was out ...but under a different stand each day. I played a shell game the whole season. So on opener of shotgun I was going to hunt near Cortland and I sent my buddy to my stand in Henrietta. He shot him the first morning. Now how nice a guy am I ...lol
  7. Looks great....where is it at?...Is it a residence or a hunting camp?
  8. K...here are mine 12 pointer (typical 10 with 2 kickers) taken up North with a rifle. My 8 pointer (5x3) from Henrietta with a shotgun. and my Ontario Canada Beas (250 lb. 8-1/2 yo female). If I go for another mount it will have to be big.....I will need to spend a lot of marriage capitol to get it through the wife
  9. I have 2. an 03 Polaris Sportsman 500 that I ride and take into the woods....and a bombardier traxter 500. I use this one as an implement...dragging discs and such. The Belt drive of the Polaris is not very useful for this. And my fater loves the step through feature of the seat so the old man doesn't have to swing his leg over
  10. Check out this website is you are fed up with the Current Federal Govt http://www.fubowear.com/servlet/StoreFront
  11. Not to lean off topic here but----in previous post -trigger locks are mandatory while transporting any firearm in your car. Really????? I have never heard that?
  12. To be honest it depends on the time of the season and the amount of venison in my freezer. That said I hunt outside the ears with my bow.
  13. I shot the 3 blade and the comment about consistiently is correct. they do tend to hang up on each other and stay barbed. I have the 2 blade version now. I didn't want to take the chance on finding a CO in a bad mood. I do hate shooting even numbered balded broad heads though
  14. I practice out to 45 yards but since I target very thick cover I have never shot a deer with my bo over 20 yards.
  15. I have never reloaded. I would love to get into it for two reasons...I like to putter and the cost...Where to start?
  16. Weapon of choice for poachers???? are you kidding me...Let's put ourselves in the poachers shoes. I pull up...see a deer...no one is around....K...I am gonna take it. Now let's remember this is a bolt...with a broadhead just like a bow. Short of a head or spine shot that deer is running. As a poacher the last thing I would want to be doing is following a blood trail with a light in the woods or someone's backyard after dark. I would want one quick shot and know that deer is going in a heap. I just don't see it. I have searched the web and can find no statistical evidence of that being true short of peopl just claiming it. The problem with this era we live in is....if it is heard or said enough it "becomes" truth.
  17. DOn't go there Eddie----you're gonna get yelled at
  18. I had not glued mine either but I shoot a TM Hnter rest so cock fletching down...they were forever turning off just a tad and the mounting strip would hit the prongs on the rest I think....I could always tell when I had one rotated...of course after the shot. since I locktight them no more problem. and you can get them out if you have to
  19. Was thinking while i was responding to a post in the small game section. I know we are a NY forum but how about a section for Guides/outfitters our members have used and can recommend or ones with bad experiences. I sure trust guys first hand accounts more than some PR in a brocheure...thoughts?
  20. JKZ- I don't know where you are but this preserve I highly recommend. No frills. I bought my Springer (Bumper) from Loraine and she helped me in the training. She also has dogs she will run for you. SHe has pointers and flushing breeds. Great lady and very down to earth. Located 1/2 hour south of Rochester http://www.pheasanthollow.com/ Haven't seen a section here on the site yet and I know this is a NY site but for any New Yorkers traveling to hunt maybe a recommended section on good outfitters---or bad ones.
  21. I checked around< DOc and there isn't musch I can find. I would think if it can't be consumed they could not classify it as baiting. I could wear apple scent as a scent cover for deer...or vanilla and they are bait in the food form...I guess if someone wanted to roll in Bacon grease to attract a bear he could call it cover scent
  22. I have 14 days to hunt this year and that counts northern ML, Rifle--Southeren Bow and gun and ML. Schedules being what they are now a days time is tight. The season length is the only thing that could put me int the woods more. I just can't fit any more in. I would love to see them lengthen the seasons. I could probably increase the quality of the deer I take but I normally tag out so my quantity wouldn't change. I'd be more likely to let the average doe walk and hold for the post breeding doe.......or pass the 8 for something I have caught bigger on my cams. I would never say no to anything that gives me more time out there. Of course if the economy doesn't turn soon more of us might have plenty of time to hunt...and need to.....(((((fingers are crossed)))
