  1. Bubba....I hope you didn't mean me....I would really like the numbers. I always felt the most dangerous time was in and out
  2. Bubba....ever see any numbers in the course on falls from in the stand vs falls while climbing in or out. Half of me always thought the 1/2 hour wait for tracking was more to give your adrenaline and jello knees time to fade.
  3. Doc ...that is our society....from the ginsu knife the the stealth fighter...find a better ..easier way and they will buy it......oh I forgot the popiel pocket fisherman
  4. Why wouldn't a survey work? In a democracy (I know we are a republic) Isn't that the most fair way to assess new legislation? I would love to see them put up more items for a reforendum vote as opposed to the crooked system we have now....no lobby moneys from crossbow companies....no self appointed sportsman groups trying to speak for us all. You know what Chevy. I'd even go for that one...bow hunting tag holders vote. Fair enough but I think you still might be surprised by the reasults.
  5. CNY----your Grandfather and Father should be proud....They presented the sport well and you didn't miss the points they made.....good luck this coming season
  6. I guy I know has a 20' Penn Yan and runs charters out of Oak Orchard. most reasonable one that I know of. He really only want 2 guys on the boat but will add a kid as a 3rd . $80 per person for leaving at 6am and back on the dock by 1pm. Can't beat that deal. Orleans county was running a derby so we bought tickets. Mine was pushing 30 lbs and that would never get in the top 5 for any money so we didn't weigh it in...It runs for another week and a half ...ummmmmm as of today none have been weighed in over mine....if I cut a $4,500 fish into fillets,,,,I am gonna be sick
  7. My mistake Doe....I meant to type shaft rather than arrow.....I apologize
  8. Work on your reading comprehension Doe...the shafts are the same...the feild tips and broad heads are the same the fletchings are the same. the knock is the only difference. There are more similarities between the compund rated arrows and the crossbow bolt than between a cedar shaft arrow and a compound rated bow. It IS a peice of archery equipment. That debate should not even be happening. whether it is included in the season is another story. Like I have said before ...I could care less which way it goes. I just hate seeing others imposing their desires on others. the only argumnents that I have heard here that vaguely sounds plausable are a big increase in hunter numbers in the woods that would degrade the bowhunting experience. I have looked at states that have allowed it and can't find any evidence to support that and no one else has provided it either. I would love to see EVIDENCE ...not opinion. It is an emotional debate and there will never be a solution that satisfies everyone. How about taking all licensed big game hunters this year...send them a ballot and let the masses decide?
  9. The following states currently honor the Utah Non Resident permit: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming Why not more? The states can do it them selves...Not to put words in WNY's mouth but I think that is what he was talking about. No new regulations just recognitinoo of other states. And FYI...check Mass laws b4 running across their boarder with a long gun....I think they have to be registered there....It's been a long time but I remember having to go through VT and NH to get to Maine because of some law....me being an out of state
  10. That is what is suppose to be all about, Dave. City living will never compare... Glad you had a great time.
  11. Yeah I was waiting for Chevy to answer and was gonna sit this out again until I saw him post. There is no difference in the actual arrow construction. The nock is different as WNY said but the shaft construction is no different. It use to be the heavier wall of the alluminum arrows were for crossbows but the compounds have gotten so powerful that the shaft construction is virtually interchangable now. A lot of bolts are 2216 or 2219 and those are very common arrow shafts. I shot those b4 I moved to carbons. SO basically a knock design and 6-7 inches in length.
  12. We need to vote out these Liberals in NY and get reciprocity with other states...pardon my spelling. I amgonna take my course and get the Utah permit too...cover like 20 some states I think
  13. I am not for the permitting process as it stands. In no way should it take 9 months to a year to get one. and a freaking 192 bucks to boot. But bubba see my post just b4 yours....can we have a line?...should there be one?...we can't have criminals obtaining if they choose..legally anyway....50 buck on any corner in Riochester will get them one but i think you see my point. It CAN"T be nothing and shouldn't be all so where do we go?
  14. I know it is called a bolt. I wanted you to educate my on the actual physical differences
  15. Not sure if it was an old wives tale or not....and I have no back up and can't remember where I heard this. I was told once that the initial moose wipe out in NYS was from this same brain worm....Deerp population came up and contact was more frequent. I thought it was transfered from the fecies of the deer
  16. DOC...I am not for permitting in anyway. Restrictions on those not fit are tough to define so they are not abused by the powers to be. How do we draw that line and protect out rights? ...tough question but I surely don't believe that EVERYONE shoudl be allowed to have a gun...how about convicts. It is so tough to draw a line that takes care of every situation. FYI I am a lifetime NRA member and proud to be.
  17. gjs4----I never saw one post that said guys shouldn't shoot bigger bucks ...but I have seen a lot of hunters that bang on the guys who choose to shoot smaller ones. It seems to me the guys that are satisfied with a smaller buck are just that...satisfied.....would it had been nicer to get a bigger one...bet they all would say yes. You on the other hand seem very comfortable imposing your standards on others. And from my other posts that is kind of a pet peeve of mine. What great insight and wisdom do you have that makes you better than a guy that is satisfied with a spike? I am looking up to see if the clouds part while you tyupe your next post
  18. 3 members of my family are diabetic. I haven't seen that behavior you describe. I do have a friend that is also and he drinks to excess and plays the insulin game to kepp him straight...sometimes he misses and does get like that. That said there is still a big difference in Psychiatric medications and those for physical conditions. You are in the field and you know this. They are alos much more difficult to regulate. Physical changes in the persons body, even something as simple as a cold can affect the specific reation of their meds. That being said they are too high risk for my taste. And you did hit the amin point. Alot of the serious case have received some hospitalization and that disqualifies them anyway. Late's all be honest here. We all know someone that we wouldn't feel comfortable having a concealed weapon. I do. There are also people I must associate with that I wouldn't want watching my kids too.
  19. Hey Chevy----just for my own curiosity. What do you believe is the difference between a bolt and an arrow?
  20. Let me give you my opinion. How can you....bubba...lump diabetics in with the mentally ill? Where is that classified as such? As for folks with seizures I have no problem with them being restricted in the carry of a firearm just as the law requires them to be free of seizures for 6 months or they can't drive. Prove you are better and have it controlled...fine....relapse...they go. I also have to back WNY on his point...big difference between possession of a shotgun and an easily concealable pistol.
  21. Had a good morning out off Oas Orchard this past Saturday. 8 kings, rainbow and a steelhead.
  22. Gottcha' I thought at first you sere saying the crossbow would hurt our wildlife. I do agree that any special interest that funnels money for their own commercial gain will never have our sport, our state or our wildlife's best interest at heart.
  23. Archer. I can respect you opinion as well as those expressed by many others here. I just have to take exception with one part of your comment. If the corss bow were introduced into the bowseason.......I don't undrstand " at the expense of our Wildlife".
  24. Ditto Larry, And throw int he factor that some do not have to time to put in that "effort". Works.....family....kids sports. I know in my case I could probably put in all kinds of effort because I enjoy the scouting part almost as much as the hunt...of course I gues my priorities are set differently.....famliy first....work and my set responsibilities first...maybe a little more flexibility when the kids are grown...until then when that 100 class 8 walks by or that spike the last day of the season...it's to the foodsaver bags with him.
