  1. Here is a real scenario in my neck of the woods . The hunting camp next to me has 90% of them coming from out-of-state. Out of 10 of them only 3 get doe tags because they are land owners. They hunt for meat, any buck will do. Of course shooting a big one is nice. If AR's were put in place I would hope the dec would include out-of-state hunters in the DMP lottery to keep them coming back. If this isn't the case we may lose more hunters.
  2. Why a none frost free freezer? Just asking.
  3. You give them too much credit. During the rut they are stupid! Over the years I have seen mature bucks out in the open during the middle of the day, during a rain storm and such. Know your food source also, them boys got to eat!
  4. 9 months pregnant and out hunting and to boot, camping. You got lucky with your hunt she on the other hand is something special!!! If she heard you calling her your "ball and chain" and "my woman" I bet she would pop you! lol Congrats on the hunt!
  5. I agree Doc the thread is good one. Let's face it, this is not about introducing a crossbow into season or changing DM zones. This is about taking away our right to shoot certain animals in the herd. Taking away our right………….
  6. A deer is an animal that gets educated by us humans as it gets older. If the situation is right that old 4.5 year old will be as easy as killing a yearling. If the situation is right killing that yearling will be just as hard as to kill a 4.5 year old buck. You can sit and wait on the ground or better yet go up a tree. You can track a buck for miles and hopefully get a look at him in the distance. You the hunter make it what it is. No right or wrong, its what you get out of it. I have had hunters shoot a mature buck 10 minutes into their first hunt ever. They had the deer mounted and hung up the gun never to hunt again. That hunter never got anything out of the experience. Those who hardly see deer but go back year after year, they get something out of it. I just hope the changes that are coming do not sway the younger and old timer hunters away from the sport. That would be two resources we can't lose..
  7. Sad yes but what tough amazing animals.
  8. 60's I think? This thing is still a baby…..so don't shoot it! lol
  9. The link to NYON article http://www.outdoornews.com/January-2015/Deer-regs-changes-in-motion/
  10. Unfortunately this is all out of our hands. Yes a survey goes out and it is provided by a credible institution. The DEC will do what it wants to do. Nobody likes change that is for sure, It is what it is. We had the crossbow introduced this year……no big deal. Youth hunting season seems to be doing fine….no big deal. Ok DEC what will it be for next year, maybe nothing…….
  11. I have shot some big bucks. My place is 6 hrs away from home. I have limited time hunting. If it is coming down to the end of the season and I have no venison in the freezer I will shoot a small buck. There have been times I see doe opening day then nothing for a number of hunts. I would rather shoot a doe but if a small buck comes along he is dead. Limited time hunting + limited deer sightings + end of season = brown its down.
  12. Thank you. Yeah that is probably not going to happen again for a long time. lol
  13. In about a week we should package this thread up in a PDF and send it to the DEC.
  14. I heard the same thing from hunters that used to to hunt PA every year before ar was introduced. Just like you spelled it out same exact story.
  15. Thanks for posting Doc. I think we all have talked about, debated, a shorter season and a 1 buck rule. To me that really wouldn't hurt me too much. There would be a lot of should of and could of in bow season but was holding out for a bigger buck at gun. Also if you shoot that nice buck at bow season there goes that oh so special opening morning hunt. You could still be out there but only to shoot a doe. I guess that is some of the down side. AR's they can keep, not interested at all.
  16. but you'll go in for the free food samplers! lol
  17. I'm not an expert that is why I'm asking but I would imagine a 33.8 lbs coon is pretty big??
