  1. Nice deer Joe. Yep things happen for a reason…..
  2. I have the only chopped field in the area. We will push some corn fields today and see what happens.
  3. Same here, last hunt today for us. We will brave the cold and see what happens.
  4. Brother shot a big button buck tonight that was it. Saw a few doe in the morning. Bucks are scarce right now.
  5. Just did congrats bud! Love it for sure. You have to feel lucky having a day in the woods like you had.
  6. I have had five minutes go by without seeing a cub. DEC says its a tough situation to prove in the field.
  7. Doe I shot opening day. She was with 3 other smaller does. May of been the triplets. Gun shot fine!
  8. That is it John. Yeah its real nice. 8 point buck walked out at a soccer game down by the Lilco ramps where the soccer park is the other day.
  9. Pygmy and NY Hillbilly I think you are spot on. Thanks so much for the advice. Now I have to go hunt down Wooly. lol
  10. I'm coming for you Wooly and hells coming with me…………LOL too funny.
  11. The gun is a 1187 auto loader. Its 25 years old and has never failed me. I have had Remington slugs jam the gun but never not being able to shoot. The gun felt like it was on safety whatever I did. The consensus from the guys around camp is that the gun didn't set properly when I loaded it. Now I'm in my stand and don't want that load noise from the action when you push the button on the autoloader. I hold back on it and let it click in with less noise. Probably the cause but I'll never know. That deer wasn't meant to die that day and hopefully he is breeding some doe right now. He can do that on two good back legs! lol
  12. Didn't see anything until 9:00 opening day morning. I was in my stand and noticed a deer 60 yards out cutting across the flat. He was running on 3 legs. The deer was huge and had a set of horns to go with the body size. I was waiting for a full broadside shot but he stopped before that happened. I watched as his head turned side to side, he looked in my direction and headed right for me. Not only did he come right to me but stopped 15 feet from my stand to take a breather. His rack had to be 20+ inches wide. I have one on the wall that is 22 wide, this guy might have even been bigger. I pull the gun up on his shoulder and squeeze the trigger, nothing. I thought the safety was on but it wasn't. I try again nothing. At this point he starts moving to the heavy brush so I cycle the chamber and try again, nothing. I cycle tow more times and once again the gun wouldn't fire. I watched him run off. Not only was he a real trophy but just the fact it was my job to take that animal down. He was lame, such a strong huge deer, now only having three legs to get around on. The late was snapped in half right above the hoof. Was a real bad shot whoever took it. I found out later it was a property owner behind me down the road. What went wrong, there could be number of things but I will never know. I replaced the Remington slugs with Lightfields in the afternoon. I took a doe at 50 yards, gun shot fine………such is hunting. All 4 of us saw deer yesterday. Mine was the only buck. My buddy stopped counting the doe he saw.

  14. Good luck and be safe today. Looks to be a perfect opening day. Aim true and be safe!!
  15. 11/14 evening hunt-saw 2 doe and another real nice 8 pt but 1 side was broken off. I would of shot but he winded me. Brother was about to go up a tree and a black bear walked in he got to full draw and the thing bolted. It ran past my niece and then into our cut corn field straight at our friend Joe who was glassing the field. He wanted to get back to the standing corn which he did . It was too cool. Good luck to all on the gun opener!!!
  16. 11/13 Saw 3 doe and a spike in the morning. Afternoon hunt had a broken rack 8 pt at 35 yards. Didn't shoot. 11/14 Had one doe come in and that was it. 1 in a million happened today. My bow fell from my stand hit my rope that I bring it up with. The clip at the end wound around the stabilizer and stopped the fall. I was able to pull it up minus an arrow with no damage!!!! Last bow hunt tonight!!
  17. It's about time we get back to camp and hunt!! Brother picking me up in the city tonight. We will bow hunt two days and then gun hunt 4. I'll head over to my old hunting grounds on Sunday to hunt with my Brother in law. Going to need a lot of time in the woods to think about taking a package at work and starting a whole new career. 30 years commuting to the city spending 11-13 hours of the day is taking a toll on me. Good luck to all and I will have my laptop so I will report in. No misses this hunt I'm dialed in for recovery!!!!
  18. Zemmer, Do what you can to get him out when feasible. Pick those days that are relatively warm and go for it! The last few years with Gus where hard but we got him out there. My Brother in law (for the last two) would pull the Gator right into a natural blind so he didn't even have to get off. Enjoy the time with him…. FL
  19. I needed the same thing in Steuben county when I built my place. This was 7 years ago and it cost me $6,500.
  20. I moved into the town of Northport Long Island last week. While on my jog this morning my head whips up cause I catch a familiar scent, couldn't be but it was a rutting buck! Looked around and saw him in a neighbors yard. For some of you who know the area it was right above the "Pit" on Ocean ave. Too cool of an experience.
