Fletch, Zem, Steve and Doe, We all get together one of these days before we get too old!

Maybe so, sucks when these things happen.

You gave it your all. Going back the next morning was good. We tracked a deer this weekend that was liver shot. After jumping him once we waited. We also had the blood trail end and did the circles from last point. We found the deer about 50 yards out from last point. Yes a good light is a must. I shot my deer last weekend towards the end of the day Saturday. Waited until dark and got out my light. It was fine to get me into my stand in the darkness of morning but not bright enough to look for blood. I hit an artery and he didn't go far. You sound like a real good hunter, I wish you luck this weekend!

PA the wild west.

I had plenty of bear by my stand this year and the deer didn't give a hoot. Both animals used the same bedding area.
-
Do the drag. This time of year they come in on a string.

Thanks Steve and Doe. Steve your right what a great piece of property. I really got a good look around while tracking this deer. My property sides and back border thick cover and bedding areas. These are huge bedding areas of thorns, pines and brush. It holds a lot of deer. scrapes were huge and all over the fringes of the bedding area.

Just got back from camp! It was a great weekend. Had my brother, friend Craig and his son Zach at the camp. Saturday was great. Zach was down in the "bear den" stand, I was at a food plot stand and Jeff was hunting a cut corn field. We all did all day sits. Zach saw 6 bucks and 9 doe. Two shooters where in the bunch the real wide 10 point and the tall 8. These two came into him as close as 20 yards but no shot. The only buck chasing the does was the tall 8 pt and a small 6 pt. The wide 10 was not interested. I saw a small buck following a doe by my stand. I get a text from Jeff that he just missed the deer I shot three weeks ago, the broken 8pt. He said the deer was fine. 5 minutes later he texted that he shot a big 8 pt. I meet him at his stand at 9. We find hair and no blood. He said the shot was foward in the chest neck area. He swears the arrow was sticking out of the deer as it ran. We found hair in another spot 20 yards from impact still no blood. 4 guys looked over the whole area for a 10 hours between yesterday and today. Nothing found except an 8pt shed. The shot is on video and I will post it at a later date. It looks like the arrow hits the deer where he said, it's a bit tough to tell. I get back in my stand and have a deer come out late in the afternoon. He presents a clear 32 yard shot so I take it. The deer turns as I release and the arrow goes into the deer high in the back and take out an artery. He crashes 25 yards away, a done deal. not a big deer but my 5 year jinx is over. We go out Sunday morning and Zach shoots a nice 6pt. The deer quarters away from him and his shot is far back but drives up through liver. We track the deer for 75 yards. I jump the deer and he has a real hard time getting up and actually falls down twice. He moves off into thicker cover and we back out. We let the deer go for about 2 hrs. We resume the tracking and have decent blood and then it stops. we start doing circles and spend the next hour just looking for the deer itself. BTW te deer did cross onto my neighbors property. We have a rule to call each other and thats what I did. He got back to me and said it was fine and good luck. I was about 50 yards from Zach and started to smell a buck. There were lots of scrapes in the area but this was pretty strong. I headed into the wind and came upon a brushy area that was perfect bedding spot. Right in the middle was Zach's buck dead. He was so excited. The kid learned a lot from the tracking and the arrow placement on the deer. Here is a kid I mentored 3 years ago putting all he has learned into practice. His first buck will be mounted and he wants it to stay at the cabin for a while. A great weekend, doing laundry right got to be ready to leave in 4 days!!! Can't wait.

Can you repeat the question??? -
Lines are so much better. They should of done this last week. I have a full tank and will be leaving for camp in a few hours. Next gas stop will be at exit 77 on rt86.

Too good to be true. Ya think they weren't there all week and now this. Is the backstrap from a doe or coon!
-
Sweet, good luck hunting him!
-
I didn't hear from Steve or Doe so hopefully there are some deer still roaming the property! Headed up this afternoon to hunt with my brother, my friend Craig and his son Zach. I'll give Zach the option of what stand he wants. I know one thing my bottom stand which we will now call the "bear den" will be sat in by one of us all day Saturday. Will report back Sunday night, good luck all!
-
Good luck Zem! I'll be up this weekend with my brother, friend and his son-Zach! We will have dead eye Zach with us so hopefully we connect!
-
BTW Doc the lawn looks great!
-
Wow Doc, imagine if you went out there Saturday and shot something!! Hey you caught yourself and that's what counts.
-

Rem 1187. A bit heavy but old reliable. -
Brought my ML into the cabin over night. Moister got into the powder and the next morning had a buck 15 yards from me broadside, a chip shot. Pulled the trigger and it was like a roman candle out of the barrel. Thing landed in the snow 5 feet from him. He bounded off and I laughed.

Sorry Doc that's my decoy! Two weeks ago at camp I drive by my neighbors trailer. 15 yards off the road is a doe eating his grass. I stop roll down the window and take some picts. She is now 15 yards from me and I do a soft bleat, she comes closer and goes back to eating. This was a 1.5 year old doe. Not until I called my brother and spoke did she care I was there. Once she heard a humans voice she bolted.
