Another Czar??

Funny stuff! WASHINGTON (DC) – After months of failures and delays, President Obama announced his latest plan to finally complete the assembly of his cabinet – months after every other President had theirs up and running. Obama has reached out into the cult of celebrity and tapped TV personality Bob Vila to fix his cabinets. Vila, 62, was the host of the long running 80’s home improvement program, This Old House, where he sat around and did essentially nothing while his ‘faithful assistant’ Norm made exotic, yet surprisingly affordable, upgrades to homes nationwide. -

I just bought it. Picking it up in two weeks. Thanks guys. -
I'm thinking about planting about a dozen or so 5' tall trees. They will be planted in a field that is back in the woods a bit. Any tips for keeping these babies safe? The area is pretty moist and they will get full sun. I'm worried about the deer and bear.

VJP, We all clearly understand where you stand with your politics. Wouldn't it make more sense to post the articles on a more dominate Democratic site? This site is probably 90% republican, you would get more bang for your buck. I'm in the minority here on my political views, and really don't want to engage on a hunting website. Actually I think it takes away from the site as a whole. I know there is a thread for politics and if I don't like it, don't read it. JMHO. Joe your #'s are correct about unemployment but nobody saw the crash coming in 2009. #'s would still be the same if a republican was in office-don't you think?

Doc good question. It was many years ago, I was in middle school my older brother in high school, they were on the archery team. They took my one Saturday afternoon to shoot in the gym. Targets placed against a cement wall. Use you imagination what happened there! I got hooked on the whole thing that afternoon. They then took me, probably at the time, the only bow shop on L.I. It was down Commack road, I think the guys name was Walter who owned it. He was a hunter and it just fascinated me that you could stalk and harvest game with a recurve bow. I bought my first recurve, a Browning which I still have. that is how it all began for me. I have owned 4 bows in my lifetime, 1 recurve and three compounds. Thanks for stirring up some good memories!

Exactly! It was his pet, no threat there until he gets home and the old lady gives him hell for drinken with the yote!

Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey that's what we do for fun after drinking a case of Molson Brador. That "pet" was just trying to have some fun and the guy wouldn't play with him.

Nice, can't wait to look in two weeks.

Joe, As for gas prices it's a poor example. People are held hostage, to say we are willing to pay for expensive gas is wrong. We have to pay these prices because there is no alternative. People have to drive, get to work, doctors appointment and so on. If you had a choice it would be a different story. There are a lot more flex fuel and hybrid cars out there. It hasn't done a thing to decreasing gas prices. My point is people are trying to drive more economical cars and it has done nothing for gas prices. Don't blame to consumer so fast. -
That something I should be doing now, looking for those bargains on the trail cameras.

I planted it last year along with turnips. Deer never hit either plot????? Now these plots were very close to a 20 acre clover field which could be the reason they were not hit. I hope the deer found the turnips this winter they were real nice. They were the tubers from WI.
-
Sounds like a nice trip. I want to take my girls there, maybe next year? Have a great time and take picts!

I have 56 acres and love it. Making improvements and watching the seedlings that I planted grow. Best thing is the new friends I have made in my town of Howard! I am really lucky! Oh yea-the deer hunting doesn't suck!

As for the teachers union I think there has to be some compromise. Yes the benefits are very good but not as good as they were years ago. They are paid well, a bit more contribution into med and retirement benefits would be nice. Caping a super's salary at 179,000 is crazy. The cap would have to go down the line for this to happen, all would have to take cuts. The sup of Syosset school district made 380,000 last year. Yes I think that is a bit much and there are other benefits in there that this person gets that we don't know about. "BUT" and I say that in all caps, these people are highly educated and if they were salary caped they would turn to private industry. This person also has 6,500 students he is responsible for. I don't see any benefit with screwing too much with the teachers union. These are the people that spend the most time with our kids, I want the best in breed when it comes to that! Sure there are bad apples in every group, they get protected by the union but it happens in every industry. These admin for the school also work a 12 month schedule. I think the republicans are barking up the wrong tree with the unions and in the long run it bite them in the arss.

Thanks-WNY. I do have to agree we have to drill more in this country. http://money.cnn.com/2011/03/04/news/economy/oil_shale_bakken/index.htm You read stories like this and wonder why it is taking so long to move of off fossil fuels. The govt. knows what this country is sitting on. The gas is there we just have to get at it in a safe manner. Same holds true for the natural gas in N.Y. I also believe we still need to move in the direction of Alternative energy. Keep research going and make it an affordable choice for the homeowner. Interesting point about the refineries.
-
Sure, then go right ahead. Your choice. For me it's called civility, that's how I judge myself and my actions in a hunting situation.
-
so when you get a deer what do you do with it? Of course I eat it, love it in fact. The point I was making is I don't need to hunt to feed myself. Maybe I should of been clearer.

Site Suggestions & Comments
First-light replied to HuntingNY's topic in Hunting New York Annoucements and News
When I log on I look at latest posts. Sometimes it is taken up entirely by a political thread. As you know these can get very heated and go on and on. I come to the site for hunting information and not someone's political agenda. Can that thread be deleted from recent posts? Love the site, you guys do a great job! Burt -
Well, I know guys that go out for the first time and shoot a big buck and never come back. Then there are the guys who never see a deer but love going to that spot year after year just to enjoy the outdoors. "Let it be known, the creatures feed, clothe, shelter and medicate us." I don't hunt for any of these reasons. This may of been true when Ted was a young lad back in the 1800's but not now.

From top to bottom, lately scam is written all over it. Who do you trust? We only import 2% oil from Libya and it has such a great effect. You want me to pay more taxes, then let me know how my kid is getting a better education with all the proposed cuts? Let me know what is being put forth to get us off of oil, or at least a plan. Obama said it a few years ago, the country that leads in alternative energy in the 20th century will lead the world." Well Mr. President you haven't done much, have you..........

I agree with Doe, Kind of out of our control where prices are headed. Take a look at your life-style and how you get to and from work and figure out a plan "B" and "C" and "D" My next truck will be a Hybrid and I will keep the distance I have to drive to work at a minimal. If gas prices do get really high this summer It will be 3-4 day long breaks at the camp instead of more frequent 2 day weekends. It's 325 miles to camp, this is where I do my most driving.
