  1. One snuck in behind me this morning and right past never stopped walking. Guessing a buck on a mission. Then I grunted in a big slab sided doe. Afternoon; Hurry to get to favorite stand to make repairs so I can hunt it in the morning, and what's bedded at top of the hill 75 yards away? Nice big mature buck jumps up, takes a few bounds, then trots off. Let's see if he comes back in the morning.
  2. Stayed till 9am and have work to do on my favorite stand. It wasn't safe to use this morning so I went to a different stand. Saw two does and two of the smallest fawns I've ever seen this time of year. Lots if big rubs and scrapes by my fixer upper stand. Will get a buck in the morning in that one.
  3. lol.... Deer don't give a hoot about survey tape, and it sure is not about to stop them from going wherever they want. Good grief! They would just walk around the trees instead of between them if they felt like it. Deer go through tangled up crap everyday and its tough to keep them out of anywhere if they have it in their head they want in. Ask my destroyed apple trees that were decorated with dryer sheets, bars of soap and all kinds of stuff that were supposed to keep deer away. The deer still chewed them up until they died. And, even if the guy may be acting a bit extreme, who cares. If he owns the property he has every right in the world to claim it as "all mine". You can still be good neighbors with someone even if they don't want you on their land. Being a good neighbor starts with respecting the other guys rights about what he chooses to do with his property. Isn't there an old saying about good fences making good neighbors?
  4. Finally got back from Alaska yesterday afternoon. Went out for afternoon sit for first time in two years. Saw nothing! The young guy/neighbor/friend who looks after my property here while I'm gone took a real nice buck from one of my stands I told him to use. It's the second year in a row for him to take nice big buck from the same stand. He is happy as heck, and I'm happy for him. I'll post a pic later. Heard some real close shots today, maybe even a little too close really, but I saw zero again this morning. Have to run for some tire sealer for the wheeler, and then back at it! Good luck all. Stay safe!
  5. Hey Law. No I have not. lol But I might soon after I get back up here. I'm flying back in a few days to deer hunt my property in NY. By the way I have pictures of two Brown bears on my back deck before we bought the house. I'm talking right next to the BBQ grill, a couple feet from the sliding glass doors. : 0 I try to post the picture of the bears. Stoneam2006....thanks...glad you liked them.
  6. On that note; this is what was hanging around in my front yard/driveway today! I hope I attached the picture correctly. Oops! I forgot to remind you all, I'm currently in Soldotna, Alaska.
  7. lol...here i am living in Alaska for the past year and looking forward to flying home for deer season and Thanksgiving with the family! I'll go after moose next season.
  8. After seeing that buck I bet people are "dying" to hunt there! : )
  9. In the city? What the heck...lol Nice bucks! Thanks for sharing the pics.
  10. I won't have resident status until one month after moose season this year, but the salmon runs are now coming on strong now, and I am taking time away from work and school papers long enough to go this Sunday. If I can get some time tomorrow I'll try to post a couple of pics of the brown bears taken this year on the Peninsula. The husband of one of the nurses at our clinic took a 9 1/2 foot brown bear. There were several other similar sized taken within a few miles of where I live now. Huge! What also takes getting used to is the moose walking around and through town. I mean right in the neighborhoods! It really is an interesting place. Best wishes from Soldotna, Alaska
  11. You can bet your boots people a crapping their knickers that they got this guy alive. I for one and extremely glad they did. I hope he sings like a canary!! Now it is time for the national media to did in and expose all of the corruption in the NY state civil service system.
  12. Hahahaha.....here bear...here bear....."oh no an acorn almost hit me in the head"! lol.....I think an entire freaking limb clonked her in the noodle at some point! You're looking at a future mauling vic.....ooops almost said victim, not a victim if you invite it.
  13. I thought cabin fever was supposed to get bad up here in Alaska! You boys got a real bad case of something! hahaha
  14. In the 30's (at least) and sunny today when I went out to run errands during lunchtime. Alaska is a balmy place. : ) And the days are getting longer very quickly!
  15. Malingerers who work harder to avoid working, than they would if they did work!
  16. So my first New Year eve in Alaska.....what a hoot!! The sounds of fireworks are drowned out by the constant explosive sounds of joyous gunfire that continues to build minute by minute finally erupting in a massive crescendo with enough percussive energy to beckon John Philip Sousa to claw himself from the grave to join in the festivity! 2015 in Alaska has now officially..... "b-gun"! hahaha! NY Gov. and anti gun friends would have pissed themselves!
  17. Hey Lawdwaz I'll speak to the gun shop fella in town tomorrow. I have people here that claim all they did when they moved here, was to have family mail their long guns to them through the regular mail. No matter how we do this it will be a nice rifle to do some Alaska hunting. Send me a PM and we can work out the details. Thanks!
  18. It's been a few years since I purchased a firearm, so will someone tell me, how does this FFL check thing factor into a private deal? Lawdwaz, if I wanted to buy this rifle and have it shipped to me here in Alaska could it be done?
  19. For the first time in my entire hunting life I had to miss opening day, and in fact the entire deer season. I have had to live the experience through this site and all of you. While It broke my heart to not be there, some of the BS that comes with hunting I was fine to be away from. This particular topic however I did not escape and I will chime in. My brother in law and nephews had full reign over my place, stands, and even my house while I was away. What happens at 4 am on opening day while I'm sad in bed in Alaska (4 hour time difference) instead of sitting in my favorite deer stand as I'm missing deer season opening day breaking my 39 season run? I get called by BIL telling me that my neighbors had placed stands just over my fence line and were not only facing into my property, but were pissed at him for driving my four wheeler along the perimeter trail on my property, to help recover another neighbors deer for him after being called for help. So this touch hole not only was hunting my property, but had the gall to then be upset for the four wheeler possibly screwing up his chances of shooting a deer off my property. People who feel the need to antagonize others to get their rocks off are not firing on all cylinders! It reminds me of cows sticking their heads through the fence to eat grass when they have an entire field of green grass behind them. I loath people who feel so desperate to kill a deer, or keep somebody else from getting "my deer" that they set up on top of other people. Much to the bad fortune of my neighbors; I will thankfully have my entire deer season off next year as it has already been approved. I will then resume my long standing rule. If you shoot a deer from a stand on the fence line you will NEVER recover it! I will gut, tag and give to the first needy local family I find. I have actually done it in the past, and will again if the opportunity presents. I don't even care if it is a record book buck. I don't want a deer somebody else killed hanging on my wall. I'll video me sticking the rack in a table vise and cut the damned thing in a pile of one inch pieces!! Again, people who march through life finding ways to intentionally cause trouble or put others safety at risk, have a screw loose and should not be surprised and/or piss and moan when the tables get turned on them!
  20. Really...I think it looks like a deer! lol Just thought I would make a Woody type response! You're right. I thought the same thing. Coach would be proud!
  21. My 1187 has done the same thing a couple times over the years. It happens if hunting in real cold temps, and is because of too much, or wrong type of lubricant. If the gun oil you use is too heavy, it gets viscous in the cold temps and slows the firing pin, or sometimes stops it all together. Look at the primer on the shells that did not fire and see if they are dimpled. Give the firearm a real good cleaning and if its hunting in real cold temps try using no lubricant after its clean. I will bet it solves the problem. It did for my 1187. A missed shot is a tough way to find the problem exists. I feel your pain on this one!
  22. After eating the butt hole ...."what does the fox say?" hahahaha
