Sniper's on letchworth state park????
Red replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Deer Hunting
i agree this year they extended the safety zone hunting until the end of the season maybe they should extend it a little past the season also i know a few people that have those permits that would love to keep hunting it more meat in their freezers my buddy got 3 out of there 2 on the last day of bow season and im sure hell take a couple more befor the year ends. they need to be more stiff on those doe tags that they hand out for in there people dont hand them back in after each like they are suppose to wich screws over the other hunters they should have a punishment for not handing them back in. -
Sniper's on letchworth state park????
Red replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Deer Hunting
im with you on that from what ive heard the park does make their own rules even the antler restiction program. they also made their own rules with this saftey zone hunting and they sure did and hack job on that. they really need to get their stuff together. we use to do some really big river bottom drives one morning we took 11 deer on a river bottom drive and plenty more made it bt. this year we didnt see anything in the bottom or on the ridges leading to the bottom the sightings in the park really have sucked. i dont know how anyone else feels about this but those park police sure can be a pain in the ass seems like a few times a year they stop you and ask whats going on and ask you the 1000 questions want to look threw your hunting stuff but you never really see them bothering the hikers. a few years back we were driving from the A cabins to one of the rental houses that they have we didnt have any guns or anything on us we seen a big buckand put the head lights on him to get a better look then the cop pulls us over asks if we have any guns no we do not. then he sees one of the old guys in the back seat eating an apple and says what are you doing with that apple trying to bait the deer you know i can give you a ticket or arrest you for that it was one apple and he was eating it lol. we told one of the older park cops about this and he laughed and said these new young guys will try and get you for anything they are on power trips. it just seems like the past few years with all the harrassing going on and lack of deer whats really to draw hunters back to this park? also this year we were talking to one of the park rangers and hes telling us hes been seeing a lot of coyotes and some times a really big wolf lol he said he told the bioligist of this huge wolf and she had to tell him it was a coyote come on these are the people making up the hutning rules in the park they think we have wolves. he also said a majority of the park workers really dont like the hunters being in the park because the workers consider these animals their pets and take pictures of them all year long. i think the dec needs to step in and take over the park. something needs to be done. -
i was lucky to take one last year just outside of letchworth a huge female we had to quarter here out she was estimated at over 400lbs im waiting to get my mount back then my taxidermist said i should have the skull measured. franklinville is a great place i started out hunting deer there when i was 16 and seen some monster. bucks .there i really cant wait to start hunting there again. i use to see bob cats a couple times each season and never seen any bob cats any where else. plus the lake for relaxing and fishing in the summer plus the beach there for the little kids.

i 100% agree with ny antler. no way i would have drove up there to hand over my tag if i decided i was gonna let him have it one of them would have had to drive back for it but if i didnt offer up the tag befor he shot the deer he wouldve been sol.

Oh Great Lord, let your winds be gentle and your skies be heavy, let there be a blanket of fresh snow to track the Antlered One as did my forefathers, and grant that I find him with antlers like a tree, branches wide and mighty. Grant that my hand be steady, my aim be true, and my drag short. But most of all grant that my children, and their children, and their childrens children have the wisdom to preserve your work in the forest, field, and stream, so that they too can one day hunt the Antlered One in the footsteps of their forefathers.

ill be hunting on state land my stand is placed in between 3 very nice funnles and in between a bedding area also above me are a couple of very arge farms that get a lot of pressure and on of my funnles runs from one of the farms down into my stand. ill try and sit as long as i can but usually late morning a big group of us set up a river bottom drive it we usualy do really well with this drive it takes usually a little over an hr its a 2 part drive. a few years ago 11 deer were taken on this drive and 2 years ago i took a really nice 11 pointer on it. then ill climb back into my stand.

coolest thing ive ever had hapen in the woods was when i was 16 i shot a really big buck with the bow and was dumb and chased the deer tons of blood but no luck finding it. i waited about 6 hrs for my grandfather to get home from work he had me leave my bow in the house since it went onto posted land we went to the last spot of blood and with in minutes deer where coming in from every direction down the hill into the orchard that we were standing in with in5 minutes we had over 20 deer feeding around us as if we werent even there there probably 6 bucks ranging from spikers to baskets 8pointers. some of these deer were with in 10 feet of us and just ket feeding around us i kept burping to make it sound like grunt sounds very awsome experience one i will never for get.

i go to the loacla race track and get the huge block of foam that they put around the trackso a car cant hit the cement wall. the tracks give it away this time of the year each year i usually grab a few pieces they are usually around 3'x5' almost 3 feet thick very great foam

ive used earth cover scent for years now and ive had deer bed down wind of me last year a doe bedded 23yards away from me down wind behind a bush for almost 45 minutes never scented me she got up and i sent my arrow on its way. i guess there might not really be a way to prove that it works but i sure wont go into the woods with out it.
