    My Bear

congrats on the bear. the dec says the average female black bear in ny is 170lbs . i was lucky enough to take a nice black bear last year in the southern zone i went out on a friday and seen a bunch of bear tracks and crap so the next day me and a couple of buddys went back out and sure enough i ended up getting a really nice bear with my 12 gauge we were really far back into the woods and had to quarter the bear out. it was a female estimated at over 400lbs im expecting my half mount back some time this week or next. what a rush it is when you see a bear.
  4. im heading out this weekend gonna set up a stand in a 15-20 acre piece of land thats bow only that has a farm on one side of it and saftey zone state land on the other side. it usually holds some really nice bucks not gonna hunt the stand until the 20th.
  5. i wont go into the woods without earth spray on and a grunt tube.
  6. i beleive hes talking about every big buck thats posted on here ive also seen it theres a handfull of guys on here that bash every story to a big buck or if some one posts a pic of ther friends big buck or something like that a few people trash talk the crap out of it and try demanding the story to the buck and every detail and explanation. ive even seen some one post that if so and so was a real man he would join this site and give his side to the story of a certain buck that he shot and since he hasnt joined this site to give his story so the deer must be illegal and hes not a real man. i some times wonder who the hell do some of these members think they are demanding that some one needs to join this site to defend themselves thats rediculous. i can tell you a lot of hunters dont even knw that this site exists and if they do maybe they dont want to join and post their storys and you know what i wouldnt blame them. all this bickering and bashing each other all the time.
  7. that rack is amazing but the size of the body is just as incredible as the rack
  8. its one of those old gas fire places thats been closed off for years now its just there for decoration plus the mantel comes in handy for her to hang all the holiday crap lol. waiting on work from the taxidermist is always very excitingthis summer when my son was 1.5 years old i took him fishing and took his first fish to get mounted a small blue gill i got it back in september he woke up from his nap and was very excited to see his fish hanging on the wall in between the deer he kept saying my fish my deer. it was priceless
  9. its a very nice deer and congrats to who ever got him.
  10. i thought i had a week to go on my mount im sure its gonna be done very soon it would be pretty cool if its done tomorrow that would be exactly one year from the day i dropped it off im very anxious and excited i cant wait to see it he does such amazing work its well worth the wait.
  11. thanks guys. theres a house at the head of the dirt road where a guy and his wife live all year round i havent seen him in years but when i was there earlier this week i stopped and talked to him let him know i was gonna be purchasing the place and if he can keep an eye on things. my grandmother use to always plow the lane and his drive way and once i get the get the place ill do the same i know he always apreciated that.
  12. sorry for such a long post kind of wanted to vent. im still gonna buy the place my wife has always love it. it just looks like im gonna have a lot of work a head of me when i eventually get the place gonna have to completly gut out 2 rooms and replace tons of stuff.
  13. my grandma had a house in franklinville in the southerntier for a little over 10 years not much land just a few acres with about 20 abandoned acres surrounding hers with a wuildlife sacntuary behind it. when i was a teenager i use to love going there every weekend even a week or so at a tie uring hunting season use to see deer every where even bob cat. well she worked 67 miles away and traveled back and forth every day and as gas got more expensive she had to move closer to her job. so she rents out the property to a family who over the course of almost a year never pays her rent and she eventually is able to evict them but during this process these people threw trash every where around the land. then my grandmother gave up on the property and was letting the land go for fore closer or whatever. so the past year ive been trying to contact everyone and anyone about purchasin the land i took a ride out there earlier this week its 750' off of the road i get there the door is kicked in some one smashed the sky litre to one of the rooms and stole all the plumbing stove new furnace tub everything what a joke. people cant just leave things alone.
  14. that looks delicous venison steaks on the grill are the best.
  15. sg0331 this is the best respond to this post and i totally agree with you. i will do what ever it takes to put the animal down and if you cut a deers throat the right way they are done with in seconds. im also with you on the choking a deer out i know ill get heel from some of yous for this but you know what I DONT CARE i once tied my drag rope around a deer as if i was gonna drag it and i pulled really tight and you know what 20-30 seconds later the deer was done.
  16. i took a ride out to franklinville yesterday there was about 1/4" on the ground but i bet theres a little more after today.
  17. i use to have one of my deer mounts above the fire place but when i got my 2nd mount back last year i moved the one away from the fire place because the 2 mounts would look great side by side now all i want for xmas is to convince my wife to give up that space above the fire place for when i get my new mount back with in the next couple weeks. its not looking like shell give it up though lol fingers are crossed.
  18. i use to kick grouse up all the time while bow hunting this year i havent kicked any up in 2009 i stalked to with in 35 yrds and took a nice grouse with the bow and last year while tracking a deer i was able to take another grouse with the bow i also took one with the bow about 10 yrs ag i havent been lucky enough yet to connect with a grouse with the gun.
  19. i can honestly say that ive done it a few times during sonme gun season i hunt with a lot of people and if their animal is down but still a live i do it for them i dont want to see the animal suffer any longer usually its pretty quick. it is way different from when you released that arrow or bullet then walk up and have to pull out your knife but you know what we as hunters have an obligation to stop the animal from suffering after the shot.
