  1. I just had a T/C Peep Sight put on my Renegade, so anxious to get it too the range.
  2. HAHAHAHA!! That's what makes a relationship! Honesty! Congratulations! A man isn't complete until he's married, but once married, he knows he's finished.
  3. When I am home, I usually go fishing. So when I am on vacation I'd be sure to bring my Flyrod.
  4. I am a Life / Endowment Member. But, truthfully it is not the organization I remember of 40 years ago. If I had the option to join today, I probably would not. They went from a grass roots hunting and shooting organization to a High Paid Lobbyist Washington organization - too extreme - lost touch.
  5. Split Finger work for me. Been that way for 40+ years, see no reason to change.
  6. [*] Cold Water Species - Trout & Salmon [*] Warmwater Species - Bass, Walleye, Pike [*] Saltwater - Long Island Sound - Jones Beach - Montauk [*] Great Lakes - Ontario, Eriie, and Tributaries [*] Lake Champlain & Tributaries Finger Lakes
  7. When I am not working I flyfish a lot. So when I go on vacation or holiday, I be sure to bring my flyrod! BBQ 'ed Trout wrapped in aluminum foil with Lemon and butter!
  8. No I usually cover the spots with brown shoe polish before I take it to the butcher! Actually, fawn is very tasty. Also very expensive if you take it to a butcher. I shot one fawn ten years ago, on the last day of MZ Season. I was resigning myself to Tag Soup, when I jumped a antlerless deer and it run directly away from me, I took the animal down with a shot in the back of the head. Not realizing initially it was a small deer. YES.. I took a lot of ribbing over that one! Anymore.. I don't shot yearlings or Does with yearlings, or spike bucks. Taking a fawn is also missing an opportunity of potentially losing out on a nice buck in the future. Never pick the fruit before it's time. Just my opinion.
  9. My 2 cents. Of course, HSUS will not rest until Hunting, Fishing and all animal use is abolished. We all know the BS Rhetoric they produce. But, I believe here is a real opportunity for Sportsman to stand up and let the non-Hunting Public know.... Yeah, we agree canned hunting is unethical, deplorable and disgusting. These are NOT sportsman that go on these canned hunts, they sure as heck aren't hunters. In Ethical Hunting the outcome is always uncertain. "Canned Shooting" is just the act of killing and the outcome is already predetermined - this is not hunting. The problem is groups like SCI, seem to have no problem with canned hunts, anymore than the NRA believes everyone should be allowed to own guns with infinite magazine capacity. These extremes in both cases - all hurt us as sportsman. What is right is right, and what is wrong is wrong. Middle ground and common sense is necessary.
  10. Adirondacks. Warren County.
  11. Anyone fish the Schroon River so far this season?
  12. Very Sorry for your loss. My Sincere Condolences.
  13. I have mixed opinions about Ted. Part of me says yes, he has done some good things for the sport in terms of getting young people involved, and keeping them down the right path instead of drugs. Then another part of me says, he's bad for hunting and gives us a black eye. The "kill'em & grill'em" mentality is too much for me... he puts himself out there as the perfect hunting fiend whacko that the Anti's love to portray all of us as.
  14. Me too! Nothing like native brookies. Especially the males in their breeding colors.
  15. That's a bummer! Thanks for the info!
  16. I shoot year round including winter. In winter usually just weekends, but outside just the same, no matter how cold it is. No different than some days out hunting.
  17. Mr. VJP nailed it. As a Hunter Ed Instructor for close to 20 years. It's great to see women getting into the outdoor sports, for all the reasons mentioned. It's a good thing for sure.
  18. Pygmy.. respectively you are wrong on most counts. All states except South Carolina have Mandatory Hunter Safety. Many western states insist thaat your home state certification program is compatible to theirs. Some States and Canadian provinces don't care how long you been hunting, they require a Hunter Safetry Certification, and some cannot be more than 10 years old. According to Safety Statistics the group of hunters with the most accidents are those that have 15 to 25 years experience - yes, because they become complacent and safety. Years ago the most unsafest group of hunters were those 60 and older.. because they were grand-fathered and did not have to take a Hunter Ed course. Mandatory Online Re-Certification is a step in the right direction. Regarding no evidence to support the value of Hunter Education!!!???? What kind of statement is that???!!! The numbers don't lie Hunter Education has reduced the number of acidents dramatically over the last 50 years. My apologies I do not mean any disrepect but your remarks are way off base. I am a Hunter Education Instructor and had been an NRA Rifle & Pistol Marksmanship instructor for almost 30 years.
  19. Deer herd looks pretty good here in Dutchess County. Any winter kill were likely the weak ones coming into winter. Coyotes did fairly well on deer predation during the Late January and early February deep snow.

    Why?

You never master the bow you become one with it. You develop an understanding of what the bow can do and what you are capable of. For me,,, it was easy. Archery = Deer Hunting. But I became mesmerized by the flight of the arrow along the way. It is even more gratifying when you make your own.
  21. I think 12 is a good minimum age for all around hunting, any weapon, along with parent or guardian supervision. I think 12 shoud be the "maximum" minimum age. I don't think a child less than that in age, fully grasps the responsibility or the seriousness of mortality at a younger age. A lot depends on the child, there are some 12 year olds that are more mature than some 14 year olds, and the other way around.
  22. The problems I see are these, and not limited to Bass Pro Shops either. I stay away from Cabelas and Gander Mountain too. 1) All of them have nothing but inflated prices anymore. Years ago, you got their catalogs and purchased from them via mail order, because of the savings. Nowadays if you buy for them, you are covering their added costs, of all their additional overhead and superstores. Most of these stores.. their gun and archery pros - don't know jack!
  23. I tried orderring some Buffalo Bulllets (Buffalo Bullet Company) from Dixie Gun Works and was told they were out of stock. I then further read on the Internet that the Buffalo Bullet Compnay has stopped manufacturing? Too Bad... I really liked the 240 gr bullet. But I found a local dealer who had a few boxes left so I bought 2 boxes (50 per box) .
