  1. Atta' boy Geno! That left antler is kinda' neat lookin'. Congratulations on closing the deal.
  2. I hope somebody answers this post. I've been wondering about this product also.
  3. Prayers to the family for their loss. The man may not have been able to afford a HSS... you seen the price on those things? I'm lucky, I have one - but not everyone has the means to shell out a $100 bill for a vest. Who knows, he may have been hunting out of a friends stand (because he couldn't afford one of those either). If a hunter cannot afford a harness... he should hunt from the ground - period! However those TV hunting shows we watch (and seriously influence our purchasing habits) say in order to see and kill more deer (especially during archery season)... one needs to hunt from an elevated position. Hunters were hunting from the ground for centuries and were very successful... you don't HAVE to be in a tree stand to kill a deer. Again, my condolences to his family. A terrible tragedy indeed.
  4. Whew... now why did you have to go and ask THAT question? As you can see there have been 34 reads to your question so far... but nobody has responded. Why not ask something simple like "Will an 8-pointer walk by my stand set-up today?" Okay, I'll give your question a response (actually a few): 1) All calls can and do work at certain times 2) I know of no call that will work every time 3) What worked yesterday may not work the rest of the month 4) What didn't work yesterday may call in a monster or whole heard today 5) You can use a call too much 6) Sometimes using a combination of calls works better than using a single one 7) During the Chase Phase... using a grunt tube may send a doe running into the next county Fawn bleats have been known to call in does... bucks sometime follow does 9) Antler rattling sometimes works... when it does get ready - a buck might come in fast 11) 'The Can' emits an estrus doe call... it has called in some big bucks 10) Sometimes not calling at all is the answer to harvesting a deer I've been hunting many many years... I remember my grandfather using a small wooden tube with a rubber band in it that sounded like a deer snorting. I don't remember it ever working - but he swore by it. So... in summary - I guess I really didn't specifically answer your question. My humbled advice to you would be to try various calls - see what worked for you and remember what the conditions were like when they produced. Then replicate their use when conditions are similar in the future. Good Luck to you young man and hunt safe.
  5. Geno... I hunt mostly 8T & R, but have a couple of places I hunt in 8W. I live in Horseheads.
  6. Especially up behind Sullivan Park! There's monsters on that there land.
  7. There's something the Administrator(s) might consider - a topic heading dedicated to female huntresses. Welcome Jennifer... best of luck to you and your family members this year.
  8. Welcome purple... If you hunt on O'Brian hill you'll most definately need help - both in getting up it and getting a deer out. LOL. Good luck this year.
  9. Welcome George... My grandfather lived in Walton... great area Delaware County! Congratulations on your success so far this year.
  10. Welcome Jim... It's a shame how much habitat has been lost due to housing projects. Your take on too many shots ringing out is the reason I hunt on my buddy's farm. Even though it's not large, it's just the two of us - we know where each other is and it's most generally 1-shot and down. Good luck this year and again... welcome.
  11. My take is Bowhunting is for sport... (so I pass on small fawns, does, and bucks). I look for racks beyond the ears. However, Rifle hunting is for fillin' the freezer!
  12. NEAT lookin' rack! Can you imagine him trying to rub trees with that thing?
  13. How great is that... get video of a buck - than 4 days later actually harvest him. Congratulations!
  14. You better wear 2 Hunter Safety Systems! That is a Hawg.
  15. Nice Chemung County Buck Mike - Congratulations!
  16. LOVE those staring contests - not!
  17. The annual scrape that I've been watching has been seeing night action only! Next to it is a 5" dia. tree all torn to shreads. I don't know where the does are - it's like they've disappeared. It's gotta' be this weekend!
  18. I think I recognize a couple of those scenes you photographed. Like the Waterfall and the Dug Road. Nice pictures.
  19. Atta' boy ... I have an Amish buddy that would put 'Heals All' (horse medicine) and burdock leaves (soaked in hot water, then wrapped around the wound) to help heal and take away the pain. Sounds archaic... but I know it works because I've done it myself. I hope you get the 'buck of your lifetime' after suffering a wound like that! Best of Luck!!!
  20. D*MN.... I'm 448 in dog years and been hunting deer for 357 dog years.
  21. WHOA.... you're givin' up on the .260? ??? No way! Why would I give up on my tack driver? I can interchange them with like 3 screws anytime I want. I just want to get out for that last week. I have also run across 2 people that wouldnt let me hunt because I shoot that gun. They dont like the idea of a rifle round I guess. ATTA' BOY !!! To me there's no better round for shootin' whitetails! Oh Oh... I'm not meaning to hijack this thread - just my opinion.
  22. Way to go FAN!!! Congratulations.
