  1. Go to www.gunbroker.com and search under rifle ammo for 303 Savage. There are about 6 boxes of ammo available from 2 different sellers. Be ready for about $40 per box with shipping though.
  2. I once took a shot at a aluminum frying pan set on a wood pile at 50 yards with an M1 Carbine. The round came back my way and hit the shed 20 feet to my left!! Damn FMJ 110 gr bullets! Or maybe it was the Teflon coating?
  3. 180 deer per acre?? 20 deer per acre?? Are you sure you don't mean per square mile? I could've bought my place in Pa for hunting, but you can't hunt on Sunday. I have had enough of that stupidity in NJ, so I bought my weekend retreat in NY!
  4. Half of the surveys were never returned. Of the returned surveys 64% said either they "don't care" or failed to answer the question at all. That's the majority of survey responders. What is wrong with these people? What are they thinking? Here's a chance to open up an exciting upland bird hunting season in early September and they say they don't care or don't respond at all?? DUMMIES!! >
  5. Most exciting would be the year my brother-in-law, my best friend, and I got three bucks out of one moving herd within 2 minutes. It was a sunny, windless day about 10 AM and they came in slow and quiet. My Bro got the first one from his stand, a nice 6 point. He never saw the other bucks. He was in a thick area. They then moved 200 yards to my buddy's stand and he shot a huge 8 point. Then they turned right towards me 200 yards away and slowed to a walk past me in my stand. I shot the fork horn that was trailing the herd of 6 remaining does. Lot of work gutting and dragging those three buck uphill after that.
  6. Got a nifty little mint condition Pre-War 99 in 250-3000. It's a tack driver. But it's not for hunting with, it's just for looking at!
  7. I don't use them, but I'm reminded of a joke here. There is a new form of AIDS going around. It's called "Hearing Aids".You can get it by listening to a-holes! ;D
  8. This is an elevated deer shack that looks down hill. More for comfort and concealment than getting above the wind. The ladder was only there to put roll roofing up top. It's gone now. You enter from a door on the rear.
  9. My condolences. That is absolutely terrible news, and right at the start of what should've been good times! Hang in there. I wish you all the luck in the world this hunting season.
  10. You've got a good Dad. Now you need to be the same with your kids!
  11. Welcome to the forum. I'm not familiar with the tree saddle item. Got a link for it?
  12. That's in the $3000 range. Kimber has a great 8400 Advanced Tactical rifle for around $2500 but only comes in .308 or .300WM. The only Kimber in .338WM is the 8400 which can be had in the stainless/Kevlar Montana model for about $1000, but it's a hunting rifle, not a tactical. It is extremely accurate though with the match chamber and trigger, plus the air gauged barrel. It might pay to check out their website: www.kimberamerica.com
  13. The new ones are a bit pricey. Not sure which one you are looking at, but if you get into the $900 range, take a look at a Kimber 84M and 8400 as well.
  14. When comments from hunters themselves create the controversy, they shoot themselves in the foot.
  15. And you have investigated this issue so throughly you can tell us what those 11 violations were? You seem to be saying if a hunter is charged with a violation he is guilty before he is convicted. I suspect the fact he was charged in California, he was charged with 9 extra violations that were either bogus or punitive in nature and subsequent to other violations that would not get a conviction. It's called piling on for the purpose of intimidation. The D.A. threaten to "Bankrupt" Nugent if he decided to fight the charges and offered the charges be lowered to just two. Nugent wanted to go to court, but his attorneys advised him it wasn't worth his time. It has been revealed the C'mere Deer was actually on adjoining property that Nugent didn't even hunt on. The fact the deer ate it before coming to him was not under his control. It is legal to shoot the buck he shot if the antlers had only a slight point forming a fork. The age of a spike and a fork horn can be the same, so saying he shot a deer too young is not true. He shot a deer California thinks is too young, but scientifically, they don't have a leg to stand on. He eventually pled no contest Friday in Yuba County Superior Court to two misdemeanors: baiting a deer and failing to have a deer hunting tag signed by a reviewing official after a kill. The spike buck shooting wasn't even one of the charges he pled no contest to. Why do you suppose that is? Anyone who supports the California F&G in this case deserves to find themselves in the same trumped up situation some day to see exactly what it is they don't know about F&G prosecutions. Anyone that totally believes the propaganda we are seeing from the Liberal Left Wing media and the anti-hunting community about Ted's case, has no clue what liars they are either. Base your opinion on the facts. Other than the fact he pleaded no contest, which means he admits no wrong doing and the state has proven nothing, there is nothing more to say. End of story!
  16. Sometimes reality has to bite someone where it affects them to open their eyes.
  17. I've only seen that sniper practice done where hunting was not allowed at all, like in Princeton, NJ. It's very expensive and fails to solve the problem anyway. It's usually employed where hunting has not been allowed to control the herd in the first place. Fewer hunters require larger bag limits and fewer restrictions to be effective. Anything to the contrary is an effort to eliminate hunting altogether.
  18. Which is actually counter productive and one of the reasons hunter numbers are declining. For some hunters it is just too expensive already.
  19. I believe that 80% sees Ted as a curiosity. They, more objectively, look at hunters as individuals, seeing hunting for what it is and hunters for what they are. I believe many of them admire him if they are fans of his music. Non-hunting gun owners respect him for his gun rights stance and NRA support. Still others have heard his debates about hunting and gun ownership and respect his opinions and know he tells the truth. His antics attract attention, but with that attention comes education opportunity. When Ted is in the spotlight, he puts on a good show that is positive for hunters and gun owners. In this one instance, he fumbled. If he was a quarterback in the Super Bowl, he would be forgiven for that. Why not in this case as well?
  20. Sounds like the solution is to allow greater bag limits since there are fewer hunters. With so many deer out there in the future, why would we limit how many a hunter can take?
  21. The big fear with FMJ ammo is ricochet. When shooting varmints, you want that bullet to stop when it hits the animal or the ground. A FMJ bullet will travel farther than any other bullet when it ricochets, and it will fly unpredictably as well. Think safety first!
