  1. I want to carry less stuff with me when I hunt, not more. That thing also looks like it could impale someone who was carrying it in their pocket and fell on it.
  2. So you're saying you guys have never shot a spike? Did he knowingly violate a hunting reg? Did you ever violate a hunting reg without knowing? If so, do you consider yourself a poacher now? And besides the hunting fame, you guys have had the same amount of success in the music business, are actively involved mentoring youth hunters, are beacons of hope for Veterans, deployed American servicemen and women, and are also board members of the NRA, with a desire to use your fame to enhance the quality of life for archers, gun owners and hunters all around the world? If you choose to point out the negatives of the man's life rather than the positives, you are the ones doing our sport harm. It seems to me you guys have a strange motive for choosing your enemies. Let he, who has no faults, cast the first stone.
  3. I don't feel this has set us hunters back a good bit. If anything it can be turned around to prove how difficult it can be to understand and follow some of America's convoluted game laws unless you are a good lawyer, or hire one to explain the regs to you. Some states have made their regs so hard to understand, I believe they want people to violate them just so they can collect fines from you. When you get fined because you signed your license in the wrong place or the tag wasn't signed within 2 minutes of shooting your deer, something is wrong. I hope Ted does a show pointing out how you can get screwed by game laws, even when you believe you are following them to the letter. All you Ted haters and critics couldn't hold a candle to this guy's accomplishments. Trying to make yourself feel big by dragging another man down is the mark of a man with a serious inferiority complex!!
  4. Factory loads will rarely be a max grain loading for legal liability reasons. Some factory loads will be pretty hot though. That's why you need to try them out in your rifle to know for certain. Point of impact has little or nothing to do with the powder charge though. Higher charges act differently in each rifle due to the twist rate and pressure and velocity differences. Once again, you would need to test the load in your rifle to find out. A slower factory load can actually hit higher on the target than a max charge hand load depending on the rifle it's fired from.
  5. I've had a Bushnell for years and use it mostly when scouting or setting up a shooting range on my land. I would use it for hunting only if I wanted to check the range on an animal I think is over 300 yards away. If it's closer, I don't need to worry about where my bullet is going to hit. If it's farther, the movement of using the range finder is not going to be noticed by the deer.
  6. I watched it, but was very sorry to see it wasn't based on actual scoring and equal competition. Some people did not have to compete in certain events and sometimes the best shot was eliminated by others who had a fear of the better shot. This show had nothing to do with who was the "Top Shot". :
  7. I didn't see any actual testing of the sight on that video. Did I miss something? All talk and no proof is what I saw.
  8. Welcome to the site and welcome back to thw wonderful world of hunting!
  9. Currently living in NJ and spending weekends in NY, I fear NY is started to go the way of NJ when it comes to guns and hunting. Pistol permit laws are equally bad and the so called "assault weapons" laws are pretty much the same. I fear moving from NJ to upstate NY in the near future won't be far enough to be free. I'm seriously thinking of moving out west to Montana, Idaho or Oregon.
  10. I don't crimp any of my rifle ammo. I find the accuracy to be best when I only neck size the case and load the bullet to the maximum O.A.L. if the magazine will allow it for that round.
  11. Welcome! Glad you came aboard.
  12. I think smart crooks would use the list to decide what homes to avoid. ;D
  13. There are more shotguns that can consistently hit an 8" paper plate at 200 yards, than there are hunters that can do it with that shotgun while hunting. If you can do it, God bless you. But I hate to see a gut shot deer suffering for days because someone thought they could do it. You can do worse to a deer than miss it.
  14. Welcome Aboard. Google NY Trapping and you will get a lot of information. You can also go online to the NY state website to get trapping info. http://www.dec.ny.gov/
  15. Welcome Aboard Robert. NY state has many state games lands open to hunting. The state also has lots of diverse habitat in different regions. Depending on what you want to hunt, what time of year, what type of country you want to hunt in, and the type of weapon you want to use, there are many different options. The state publishes it's own magazine that gives lots of good info on hunting in NY. There's also a lot of info online for NY at this website: www.dec.ny.gov/ I'm in Delaware county ( The Catskills) and there are lots of open areas to hunt here. Check out this site. www.nyc.gov/dep Hope that helps.
  16. Great photos woodsdweller. Those pictures make me want to come along on your rabbit hunts. ;D Looks like you got a Ruffed Grouse as a bonus there too.
  17. The 24" rifled barrel is most definitely better for slugs and deer hunting. Look around for a used one too. They are a lot cheaper than new and work like a new one does. I'd check www.gunbroker.com
  18. For the amount of money Shockey gets paid for doing those shows, not to mention the endorsement commissions and royalties on products that carry his name...... I'd do it in a heartbeat. It's not like I haven't been cooped up in a windowless office for 12 hours at a time. Any type of hunting is better than a good day at work. And working at hunting beats working at a thankless job IMHO.
  19. Welcome Aboard. Maybe I should've become a High School teacher so I could afford land in upstate NY and cellular trail cams. I'd even get all summer off to lounge around. Must be nice. ;D
