  1. I am asking the same thing! I have been getting up early and spending countless hours since October that I don't know what to do with myself! Now it is time to relax with the family and look forward to other things. I enjoy riding my snowmobile then it will be fishing/spring turkey time. Before long after that we will be back at it!
  2. we end up taking them down every year. In case we want to move them next year and worried about the snow and wind throughout the "off-season". We usually head up after a the holidays and remove them, get us out back in the woods. Maybe when I am older it maybe hard to take them down, but right now its not to bad. This year will be a lot easier with there not being much snow. A guy at one property has left his ladder stand up for two year straight and it has rusted hardware. I am not sure if I would sit it in, but each person has their own opinion!
  3. I gave my wife a list of the few I was interested in and where to buy them exactly. I am curious to see if she bought me one for Christmas. I bet She just got me a gift card, so I have some shopping to do :-D
  4. its a shame that they will have to shut down an area because of this. It is also a shame that you have to feel this way about the season ending. I hate how people have to ruin everything for other people. Hopefully they could patrol it better and get these guys out of there. Good luck next year and maybe finding a new place to hunt. This stories make me glad that I have private property to hunt and a really low attended stand land right down the road.
  5. there is nothing wrong with this addiction/sickness or obsession! Just glad I get to share it with people who also enjoy it. Good luck everyone and enjoy one of the last few days of hunting for the season.
  6. thank you to all that help with picking up trash. No matter any out door activity I always see it laying around. Makes me sick that people just toss it where ever. I always try to pick up what I can and happy there is more of us out there! My brother has picked up some nice pocket change while taking his dog on walks everyday. People toss soda and beer cans on his like you would not believe. I drive by the dump everyday and see where people dropped stuff off at the night. Just to save a few bucks and have the dump employees clean it up.
  7. glad you reported him. hope he gets whats coming for him. Like everyone said above, with him keeping up his antics. Hopefully he maybe learns a lesson not to mess with you.
  8. Yes. maybe take it off when I get in the stand. Never know who is out there. I feel pretty safe in the private land I hunt. But what does it hurt throwing it on and being a little more cautious.
  9. I have never heard of deer search before. But I am newer to hunting and have always hunted with other people. I would imagine it would be very hectic around deer season. I wouldn't mind doing something like this when I am retired and have more time. I am lucky to get my own hunting in now. But when I am retired and can get out more, I think something like this would be good. I know my grandfather would of used something like this when I was gone to college. I guess that's what neighbor kids are for. Just sharing it in case anyone wanted to know more about it.
  10. From the response I guess that it doesn't really bother anyone. I didn't know and wanted to gain your guys input. I thought it would just because I have no experience with them. I am guessing the fact that they use ATVs to get to their stands right before legal hunting light has a thing to do with keeping the deer away.
  11. Not sure if this has been posted or not. I am at work and don't have time to check each section. http://blog.syracuse.com/outdoors/2011/12/who_you_going_to_call_if_youve.html I think this is a great thing. Especially for the older people who have trouble getting around.
  12. very nice video! nice shot. Has me pumped to be back bow hunting next year.
  13. I do not smoke and even if I did I would never in the stand. Where I hunt sometimes there are a few guys that smoke constantly in the stand. I think this plays an important role in me not seeing deer. Do anyone of you guys smoke in the stand and have luck with getting a shot? Or is it that they drive their atvs to there stands? Because of this I am now on the far other side of the property for next year.
  14. I will be shopping this off season for one. Thanks for all your input everyone. this one is one that I Have likes from my reviews online. I like how it is much bigger than what I posted earlier. I think this will be better for drawing the bow back. Im excited to give this a try next year !
  15. my brother had trouble with people ending up on this land. He had it posted the right way, but people took the posted signs down. Some of our neighbors talked to a DEC officer and he said land is protected up to one year if it is posted and signs were illegally taken down. So I guess its easier to check and get permission like stated above.
  16. Thank you all for the input. I am going to shop around and see which works best for me. I am nervous about the draw length in the blind. I have been reading the reviews on the website to purchase them. Seeing if people had trouble with them or not. My main concern why I wanted one, was bow hunting. I manage pretty well hiding behind things with the gun. I have had close deer using the natural blinds out there and not being able to get the bow drawn without spooking them. I am just looking for a few more options. I see you guys talked about leaving it up before the season so the deer get used to it. How do these hold up in the weather? Where I hunt, unlike this year usually gets a lot of wind, rain and snow?
  17. This has me excited to get out tomorrow morning with the cold and deer activity up. I am curious to see if there is any second rut markings or sightings in my area! Like mentioned above the rut we normally like was very weak. I have been noticing more deer out driving to and from work. Also have been hearing about success stories on here and through friends+family. good luck everyone
  18. Does this Forum have an option to search the pages and see if a topic has been brought up? I would like to search and see before bringing up a new topic and annoying you guys. thanks
  19. Hello, I am looking into a ground blind and was wondering what your opinions and experiences with them? I have a nice ladder stand, but usually end up moving where I notice deer if my stand has not activity. Instead of moving my stand I thought about looking into a ground blind. I also figures it would be nice if I hunted a different area or state land. So far I have liked the reviews of this blind. http://www.basspro.com/Ameristep-Doghouse-Hunting-Blind-Combo/product/10202323/92823 the extras are not bad and nice they come with this blind. Has anyone used this blind? I will be using it for gun and bow. I know I need to put it somewhere, so that the shadow is broken up. Also would be a good idea to bush it in with tree limps and such. Do you think they are worth the money? especially to block movement and be able to move your spot easily?
  20. I have Thompson center maxi balls. I have only used them for target shooting. I have liked them so far. I am going to play around with powder and see what works for me. as I used what my friend bought over. I am going to go to gander mountain and talk with them. I am also going to look into what you guys recommend. I do have one stupid question, and this is coming from a guy with little experience with ML. you have to shoot the gun off when you come out of the field? or is there a way of re using the shot? I would imagine with powder it would be hard. but the pellets it may work. I have tomorrow off and all weekend in between hunting to give it a good try. I then have a few days next week to make sure I am dialed in for the last weekend of late ML season. thanks guys
  21. I welcome the snow and cold weather just like all of you. The forecast is looking decent, so fingers crossed. Coming on the this forum and hearing all of you talk about the weather being weird and not seeing deer helped me. It reassured me that I was not the only full tagged/frustrated hunter out there. Nygooseduster- sorry to hear about the buck you got and the way it went down. good luck with the final weekend!
  22. Hello all, I am new to muzzle loaders and wanted to get some input from you guys. I received a Traditions Buck stalker as gift for my birthday last year. I am going to make sure it is shooting how I want it to this weekend for the late season ML. I am new to the different types of shot and what to use for "powder". What do you guys recommended for deer as in shot and amount of "powder"? Also should I use anything different for target practice? Is there anything special or trick that I should know about ML that may help me out? Thanks guys
  23. Hello, My name is Matt and I am new to the forum. I hunt deer and turkey and enjoy fishing. I have deer hunted for almost 10 years. I took sometime off during college but now back into it full swing. Since then Just fished my 2nd season with my bow. No luck yet, just a few misses. I hunt outside of Cazenovia on my brothers land and a family friend has a nice camp in Georgetown. I am thinking about trying to hunt some of the lower traveled state land in the surrounding areas. I look forward to being part of this forum and learning from all you guys.
