  1. Westchester does not offer any state lands for public hunting that I know of. There are several city owned lands that require a permit, and there are no rifles allowed for hunting in Westchester. Everything is with shotgun, air gun, or bow only. Certain places are bow only and/or deer only. Pretty limited. Putnum and Dutchess are probably your best bets for some small game action. Stewart and Sterling are big woods down here that are public and usually plenty of parking before deer season.
  2. What are you shooting from a stand that you feel you need practice with? If a bow, then you will need to use some math and figure it out. If you are planning to place a stand on public/state land, I'm sure you can shoot your bow once your stand is set in place. You only need a couple shots to confirm your mathematical calculations. There's also range finders available now that can do the math for you. If you plan to shoot a firearm in public land, that's a no-no in most of the southern zone. If caught defacing state property, you'll be facing a summons.
  3. There are finning laws already in place, and since they can't enforce that, they decided to do an entire ban on the sale of fins instead. I think that is where the problem lies. And WNYB is right, don't make this an international debate, this stays within the US.
  4. Have you ever "killed 'em not dead"? That would make an interesting story.
  5. Vince, in case Elmo wasn't clear enough(pretty clear to me) you cannot target practice any firearm or bow or air gun in the city's limits, and this includes city owned property located outside of the city. The 500' rule doesn't really need to apply here, because there is NO shooting of any kind allowed in NYC. If you really want to shoot and not travel far, look into archery ranges, pistol ranges located in the city. There are a few. But you will be disappointed if you are looking to shoot past 25 yards. Blue Mountain is but an hr from where you are, and you can shoot out to 200 yards if you wanted to down to 25 or so yards as well. It's $11 per hr. Unless you are waterfowl hunting in Nassau county, you can forget about shooting there as well. There is NO hunting other than waterfowl in Nassau. I hope this information has helped. PS, the file you downloaded is a google earth file, and awesome tool if you do not already have it.
  6. Wish I saw this earlier, I've got a Jon and trolling motor a available. Oh well.
  7. There's a reservoir up by Tarrytown, and tons of deer in that area. I forget the town name, but they do not allow hunting.
  8. The lotto does not run out of DMP until it expires. Same chances for everyone, regardless first day, or last day and anything in between.
  9. Also ran into an issue with sending PMs. If I go to view profile, the click send message, says system message, this server is not registered etc.
  10. How dare you, Paula has shared many things in PM with me, some very intimate things.... She is not grumpy at all!
  11. All I keep seeing is virgil asking to see sausage and a lot of 20", 10", and 11" thrown around, but no pictures.
  12. That's at least 20 more deer for that gun then, more if you wait to stack em up!
  13. Sounds like your zero is right about 70 yards.
  14. No bow course is needed if you are hunting small game.
  15. I guess we'll see if the link I provided eta updated. Although not clear as gin, I think most folks can see the BOLD and make sense out of it. This topic has nothing to do with the youth crossbow.
  16. This information is wrong Danny. Hunters wishing to bowhunt for big game must present either: 1. Proof that he or she successfully completed an approved bowhunter education course; (Note: Approved courses are International Bowhunter Education Program Courses or an equivalent course. If in doubt, call toll free — 1-888-HUNT-ED2) or 2. Proof that he or she previously held a bowhunting license or stamp issued in 1980 or later; if proof is from prior to 1980, he/she must take an additional 8 hour minimum bowhunter education course. Bowhunter Privilege. Qualifications: Current year license to hunt big game, PLUS acceptable Bowhunter Education Certificate, OR Bowhunting Stamp issued in 1980 or later, OR NYS Jr. Bowhunting License issued in 1980 or later. Privileges: Hunt deer and bear with bow only during bowhunting season. NOTE: Residents hunting bear or deer with a bow during the regular season must possess both a valid big game license and either a current bowhunting privilege or a valid Bowhunter Education Certificate. This includes Westchester and Suffolk counties. Above is copied from DEC guide page 12. Since 1C ad 3S does not have a bow season, and falls under regular season, a bow license is NOT required. The bow certificate still is.
  17. I don't think anyone claimed that, did they? May have missed it.
  18. So you're saying the info on there now is not correct and not updated?
