  1. You can use Rimfire to hunt for small game in general in all of NYS, with some exceptions such as region 1, 2, and 3S. Also, some properties such as Stewart State Forest. Shotgun only for deer doesn't mean shotgun only for squirrels. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  2. You'll want to shoot that Mrod from 3200-2400 psi. You should get a very stable 16 shots. You'll also want to use JSB Kings for most applications, and Predator Polymags for serious hunting. And finally, you'll want to shoot it at 100 yards on a bench to really enjoy its accuracy. The 4500 psi carbon tanks are great too! 3. We all should follow the laws, whether you agree with them or not. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  4. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/88898.html And http://nysparks.com/parks/152/amenities-activities.aspx According to these sources, Storm King is in Orange County, and allows hunting. I do not know if it is deer hunting ONLY, but deer hunting is permitted at Storm King. Regardless of your violations, the way you were treated and cuffed was uncalled for. I would try to remember the officers that did this to you and look to see if they violated any laws by doing so and use this in court. It is going to very helpful that you have the dash cam. The dash can can prove that you were not hunting, but was making sure that your firearm was safe before traveling in a motorized vehicle. In regards to possession of a firearm in a state park, you'll have to determine exactly where you were to fight this ticket. If you were indeed in an area where firearms are not allowed, this may stick. If you were on the DEC approved hunting area, then I do believe you have a case. Regardless of the outcome, these are monetary fines, and will not go on your record. It won't affect your job, or background checks. It's just $$$. Don't lose sleep over it, but do plan on fighting these tickets in court, I believe you'll win them both. P.S., how do you like that Mrod .25?
  5. I didn't enter as well, have no need for .223 ammo. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  6. You did read that the OP was shooting a .22LR at 200 yards, right? I'm just going out on a limb here, and going to assume that he'd rather be precise, than to miss vitals on a bear at 40 yards. As for the 55-70 gr comment, I WISH I can find those bullets weights right now. All I'm getting are those pesky deer and bear bullets, 90-105 grains. 7. Before you get your mind made up about using a 12ga shotgun for deer, shoot one first with a slug then think again. You don't want to base your purchase on hunting deer with a slug shotgun, only to find out it kicks like a mule and it becoming a paper weight. If you must have only one firearm, then the shotgun is it, as stated many times it can take any game in NYS and NJ. If 2-3 guns is within your budget(plans), then I'd recommend a Rimfire, centerfire, and shotgun or muzzleloader. A capable Rimfire such as the .22 magnum, 17 HMR or the new 17WSM are all capable rounds of taking small game as large as coyotes. They'll all do very well with smaller game such as squirrels and chipmunks. Centerfire has been discussed, and the .243 has been mentioned a few times, and I can see that you do like this round. Don't let the lack of available ammo scare you, it's a great caliber than can handle gophers up to black bear(oh say it ain't so!). Expect barrel life to be around 1500-2500 rounds before groups open up .5 MOA. That's still MODEER at 800 yards if you can do your part. It's very well capable out to 300 for sure. For areas where centerfire is not allowed for deer and bear, I'd go with a muzzleloader. Shoots just like a rifle. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  8. You just said you can kill a moose with a 22LR, then say .243 is too underpowered for bear. 'Nuff said. Keep shooting those 300WM. I'm sure you'll blow through any obstacle(branch, brush, tree trunk) fine and hit your mark with it. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  9. .243 has been off the shelves in local stores for a while. I'm selling mine off now, because I'm reloading. They must be off the shelves because its a horrible round for NYS.... X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  10. Good luck Paula! X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  11. It's not my style to comment on other vendors' products, but I must on these. A customer of mine msged me on my Facebook page and then later called me to discuss his situation with the (3) UniqueFire 802 that he purchased. He asked if I would repair his LED modules. I quoted him the price for the repair of the (3) LED modules, then later asked why he needed them repaired. He then told me he purchased them brand new, and burnt out in a matter of minutes. This was his txt msg to me after he purchased a kit from me. "This thing is awesome. It feels awesome. It looks awesome. I am so pleased. I'm gonna take it around to the local sporting good shops and show them. Try and get u out there!!! There is nothing on the shelves like this here." As for the second link posted above, well, there's no such thing as a red LED emitter in the XP-G class. I think that says it all. Buyers beware. 12. 4"? Please refer to post above. Shot placement, bullet selection, then caliber. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  13. That person is Greybeard on these forums. Didn't you get into an argument with him over this? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  14. I'm not sure what the situation with .243 ammo is, but finding ammo for it has not been as easy as 30-06 and .308 in my area. I did order a bunch online, when it was still legal to do so. Bullets weigh from 55 grains all the way to 107 or so. That's pretty versatile IMO. IMO, the .243 is a very capable round for NYS, even for bear. Those that state otherwise, well, you keep shooting those 30-06's and 300 wm X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  15. http://www.chuckhawks.com/shotgun_slugs.htm According to this article, a rifled slug doesn't really spin enough to stabilize the projectile in any way. It's the other attributes to the rifled slug that aides in its accuracy over the non-rifled slugs. Regardless if the rifled slug spins in the barrel or not, a rifled slug shot from a rifled shotgun barrel will most likely cause a huge amount of lead fouling. Chunks of lead may break off and cause an obstruction, resulting in a potentially very dangerous situation for the shooter. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  16. Versatile? That would be your shotgun combo that others have mentioned. But if you're set on accuracy, which I think you are shooting a 22LR at 200 yards, I'd get a rifle and be happy with the style of shooting you'll do. I'd recommend the .223 or .243 if you like shooting a lot and want an all around NY hunting round. If you can take some pain from the recoil, I'd step it up to a .308, .270, or that .30-06. You can legally take big game with the .223 in NYS, and shot placement is key. .223 will be your cheapest ammo, and very popular so ammo selection is abundant. 30-06 is also very popular, and availability is pretty good on the shelves now. There's also a wide range of variety in bullet choices there as well. However, I consider the 30-06 a big game hunting round only, you wouldn't shoot a squirrel with one of those. 17. I've never done it, but the rifling on the slug and the rifling on the barrel will definitely cause some major problems, and could be dangerous. Just too sloppy and loose in there to be safe, IMO. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  18. You mean this coming Sat, or the next week? Feb 15 or 22? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  19. I don't think I got your PM. I have the Federal blue box, 100gr soft point. Same stuff you would get at walmart. I do believe I have 2 full boxes of these. If you are not in a hurry for them, I can try to deliver, I do fish and hunt Westchester. Otherwise, you can pick up or make other arrangements, I'm flexible. 21. It's a recurring charge for those custom plates, they are most likely going to waive the initial fees and provide one renewal. Great for those that was going to get the plates anyway, but not a huge deal or bargain otherwise. Prices seem reasonable, for now. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  22. Since I'll be hand loading for my .243, I'll be offering up my factory ammo for sale. Most are brand new and never shot, and others are missing a few rounds. I have Winchester, Hornady, Federal, Herter's, and a few others. Shoot me a PM if there's any interest. Most ammo is $20 a box, as high as $40 for the Nosler Partitions. Thanks for looking!
