  1. Me, too......Hell, this used to be a sport. Now...I am not sure what it is...a business, maybe!
  2. Hopefully....The wil !!!
  3. Met a young guy who was bowhunting deer as I was on my way out of the local WMA. I stopped to talk to him...since I knew the area well from nearly 40 years of hunting there. We chatted for a bit, and then he shared with me some of the stuff he had collected on "trail cams"....and, then, I drove off. I realized I was not talking to a hunter. You newbies who realy on the latest hi-tech gadgetry must, at some point, own up to the fact that you are not hunters. You are more like video game players. Please...please...please stay out of the woods. Play your games in the video arcades!!
  4. This video is fairly typical and representative of today's hunters: They put out trail cams to spy on deer...plant food plots to lure them in...hang or erect treestands overlooking the food plots...buy hunting rigs, bows or guns, that cost hundreds of dollars...and then seek to film their whole "hunt". Now....are they really hunters?....Hell, no! (Bunch of pussies, Maybe!) With modern day deer hunting, the "product" has become far more important than the "process". Scoring...using the latest hi-tech equipment...has become more important...far more important...than hunting. What a shame! Most modern deer hunters make me want to puke! Hell...They want to hang a stand...in a location determined by food plots and trail cam photos...and then ambush a deer....and thereafter brag about it, and what great hunters they are. Again, GAG ME!

    Dogs

You did the right thing....Neighbors are more important than deer shot.
  6. I assume you are picking tame, or cultivated grapes. Wild "fos grapes" make the best grape jelly ever!
  7. Growalot....Try 8 oz. of tonic water before bed for those night time leg cramps.
  8. You guys do know that they make mesh bags for laundry "delicates", right?
  9. If you want a fixed blade knife for use on whitetails, this American made knife is as good as you can get: http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/products/Bear%26amp%3BSon+Cutlery%2C+Inc./Bear%C2%AE+Invincible+Skinner+with+India+Stag+Bone%26%23153%3B+Handle+-+Stainless/BR582.html
  10. Tough to beat this EKA http://www.knifesupply.com/eshop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=EKA736608
  11. Check out the EKA folders (Swedish)...I have one in blaze orange...can't be beat!

    3 days.....

Tight nock problem...adhesive problem...Good God, Does anyone just go hunting any more?? I gave up lists years ago (even though I am old); so what if I forget something...so what if I don't shoot a deer ????
  13. Hard to beat rabbit stew: Debone the rabbit...remove all silver skin...cut into stew size chunks...pound the tough pieces (thighs) to tenderize...shake in lightly seasoned flour and brown in small batches in hot butter, adding more butter when needed...remove browned pieces to a platter until all done. (Note: A lot of browned crusty stuff will remain in the pan ...preferably a big cast iron fry pan...that will be the start of a great roux for the stew liquid.) Mix a quart of liquid by adding a half cup of dry white wine and four bullion cubes: three chicken...one vegetable, to 3.5 cups hot water. Stir until cubes have dissolved and use to deglaze the pan...stir as you scrape up all the remains of your browning operation. Then add the rabbit pieces back to the pan, along with what is now a thin roux (Make and add more liquid if necessary). Bring the contents to a boil....then reduce to a slow simmer for about 45 minutes. Then add your other stew ingredients (We like cubed, unpeeled redskin potaotes...carrots...whole small onions and mushrooms) and continue simmer until everything is tender. Serve with/over hot buttermilk biscuits. ENJOY !!! Note: This recipe is for a "white" stew, using cottontail rabbit. If you have snowhoe hares, make a "red" stew, using the same recipe, but substitute beef cubes for the chicken and red wine for the white.
  14. "If they don't like it they would break the law" Say what?? Are you people not aware of the number of people falsely accused...erroneously convicted...even wrongly executed? I realize compassion is in short supply in today's world, but I still feel sorry for you!
  15. Um...Check another thread on here re: Sheriff Joe Arpaio...Sheriff Joe would have confiscated the sign...put the landowner in jail...and denied him the right to eat meat. So...who's right??
  16. Ah well.....One can only hope that some member of your family runs afoul of the law in Sheriff Joe's jurisdiction!!
  17. Arapaio is first a BIGOT.....The fact that he is in a position to practice his bigotry is a damn shame! Anyone who can support him is probably a bigot, as well!
  18. Not a good year here....Have yet to see a hen with more than 4 poults.
  19. That's good training time...both doable and effective. Even Blur's 19 min. is a good time....break 20 min. for a mile, and you're training. Remember: When it comes to exercise, anything is better than nothing (Walking a mile in 30 min. beats hell out of sitting on the couch).....more is better.....up to a point (Yes...it is very easy to over-train. Even we old, overweight farts could go out and turn in a somewhat respectable time for a walked or jogged mile, but we would suffer thereafter. Better to start light...and progress slowly!)
  20. Wow...Neighbors will be reporting a ground level UFO !!!!
  21. Few thoughts: A) Walking is GREAT exercise...made better if your route has some hills Add weight to your walk in small increments only. As little as 5% of your body weight (10 lbs for a 200 lb guy) can make your walk much more productive. Add it right: sand bag(s) in a waist pack is best...small day pack next best...NEVER carry hand weights when you walk/run; such violates all the rules of good lifting and carrying. C) Try to get TWO activity sessions each day: your walking and some active chore in addition...mow the lawn, gardening (Yes, Doc, gardening is great exercise), clean the garage, whatever. D) Add a general total-body weight training session to your exercise regimen: three days per week if 35 or under; two days per week if over 35. E) Add two or three sessions of stretching and abdominal conditioning to your weekly regimen. F) Identify your "problem foods" and target them for reduction or elimination. (For me, that would be booze, snacks and desserts, especially ice cream.) And lastly, G) Be patient...Don't try to lose weight too quickly. To lose 1-2 lbs per month is an attainable goal. Weight lost slowly is more easily kept off.
  22. Buy it....great gun! I have two friends who have 100's; I have an 88...all in .308. We have killed a bunch of deer with them...and, no functional problems at all!
