  1. Do tell me.....and, what's your point?
  2. I prefer USA made knives. My next for butchering/kitchen work will be Dexter Russell from Cabela's. They are high carbon steel...easily sharpened with a DMT diamond stone. (For the record, sharpening a knife is a skill easily mastered.)
  3. As others have suggested: Sight in from a rest. Then, shoot off hand to see if you can shoot as well as your gun. If not, practice until you can...or nearly so. Even with good shooters, a 2-3" group off the bench will expand to 4-6" off hand....plenty good enough for deer. Problem with this advice is that ammo is currently limited in supply and very expensive. .22's are grossly overpriced, but they still might represent the best practice option.

    My morning

    Really....the neighbor seen you?
  5. Thanks for the Hannaford tip...I will look for those cookies
  6. Lawdwaz, you are a jerk! Someone doesn't like what you like, and you call them ignorant. Surely your favorite venison is "doctored" to taste like magazine cardboard....That's what you think venison should taste like! OK, everybody....Lawdwaz has spoken: Do what you can to make real good venison taste like spicey cardboard! That's what he likes!!!
  7. Sheesh....A lot of guys apparently do not like venison. To alter the natural flavor of venison with some sissy marinade is a crime! If you don't like it...Don't shoot it!
  8. Why marinate the backstraps? Save the marinade for the tough cuts!
  9. Looks like a legal hit, BUT it makes you wonder why we play and watch (worship, for some) this viscious game!
  10. Thanks for the tip....I will definitely check.

    Big Bear

    Yep.....NOT REAL!!!!
  12. No "SAFETY" is safe! All safety is provided by the gun handler!
  13. The Affordable Care Act is a step in the right direction, despite its having stepped off on the wrong foot. If the initial wrinkles get ironed out, all Americans will benefit. And, just maybe, the insurance companies will suffer a bit.
  14. Sorry to hear this, but.....Go and enjoy your friend's wedding. Deer are for now; friends are forever!
  15. What??....Pictures can be deceiving?? However will the newbie hunters ever handle that??
  16. I have caught a few good largemouths on hotdogs, too. My guess is...good scent!
  17. Stevens 94 opening lever is on TOP...works in either direction.
  18. Stevens Mod. 94 single barrel in 12 ga. Have killed everything with it except a deer....may give that a whirl this year.
  19. Another tip for tipping your jigs: Use tiny slivers of dried apple...works great, especially when you pull a "grub" out of your mouth to bait up in front of other fishermen. Just explain that "They work better when I warm them up a bit!"
  20. I had an all-purpose black lab that hunted everything. She even barked when trailing rabbits, cottontails or snowshoe hares. And yes, I did have to break her from running deer. Caught her in the process and administered the loudest, NO!" ever. Ever obedient, she left the deer and came to me. Later, I left her in the house while I laid a trail of deer scent that ended with a mouse trap baited with a deer scented cotton ball....with 8 other, unbaited traps surrounding it. I heard her spring the baited trap...and then a half dozen others as she reacted to the first. Never ran a deer thereafter.
  21. Saw a piebald moose a couple years ago...Thought, at first, that it was a pinto pony!
  22. Nothing like a meal of panfish pulled from under the ice. Make sure you pick up a jar of Berkley GULP Maggots to tip your jigs with.
  23. Good idea, Doc...A little snow is a great teacher.
  24. Wow, Pygmy....120 deer with too many different calibers....That's impressive. When is your book coming out?
  25. Greaybeard....Please do write about the strippers. Stripers are exciting, but strippers.......!!!!!!!
