I have missed many a hunt because of kids: births...sickness...school affairs...etc., etc. And, you know what? Afterward, I realized I had not missed a thing! Kids trump the best of hunts!
The obvious fact...overlooked by many (liberal media, for sure)...is that no gun/ammo restrictions placed on me...or others on here...could have prevented this. Nevertheless...watch for greater restrictions of our Second Amendment rights!
My 870 20 ga with rifled barrelshoots great, regardless of ammo. We have had two different scopes on it: one cheapie...one Leupold. No difference in performance.
Before opting for a new scope...check the mounting of your package scope; make sure everything is tight.
Read a piece yesterday where guy said the early (Oct. 1 ) start to the bow season actually discourages deer movement...Guys in the woods tends to make deer move more during the dark hours. Maybe the old Oct. 15 start date was better...closer to the rut.
Interesting to see/hear the differing opinions here, isn't it? And, yet, those doing the opining are dead certain they are correct! Deer hunters may be among the great bull artists of the world. (I am no exception.)
Don't "over kick" yourself: Good buck...I'd shoot...pouring rain, or not. His body language that you interpreted as "good hit" could really have been an "Oh Shit!" response to being caught unawares. Go back...run some concentric circles in the area where he might have dropped.....GOOD LUCK!!!!
Hats off to you great shooters! It is not your guns...It's you! Fact is, most guns shoot quite well; not so for all us hunters. My shots on game these days are generally well under 100 yds.....I do well in that ball game. Stretch the distance only a little beyond that, and I would no doubt shoot poorly...despite the quality of my firearms.
MLB is a business. Right now, Ortiz is good for business...just like Mac and Sosa were a few years back. Cheating...it's part of sports! (Note: The Yankees will be looking to get some of Papi meds for Sabathia!)
Hey Steve....If your child left his/her expensive jacket on a chair in the mall food court, would you expect it to be there a few days later? Of course not!
Wait a minute....Does leaving a camera in the woods give one exclusive use to that area? And does a trail cam picture of a deer maike it "your deer"?? Hey....leave something in the woods, and it is up for grabs!
Cuomo makes things worse: While we may think that govt. agencies (DEC, et al) should serve the people....Andy thinks they (Moreland commission included) should serve him!
Have any of you read the recent DEC press releases that all start with a little touting of Gov. Cuomo's contribution to hunting & fishing? Makes me want to puke! Andy's father was an outspoken opponent of outdoor sportsmen...the nut did not fall far from the tree. Personally, I would like to see a NY Governor who is a practicing hunter/fisherman.
