  1. What "stuff" is so stupid?? Surely the "stuff " in the SAFE ACT is stupid...The militarization or our police forces is ridiculous. Now....what is it you find so stupid and ridiculous??
  2. Try Trout Town Amber Ale from the Roscoe Beer Co., or Lake Placid's UBU Ale
  3. We are fast becoming a police state, Doc. Covert makes more sense than you do.
  4. Wow....No BB guns in NYC.......That explains why it is such a safe place!!!!!
  5. I have gone to the Middletown show a number of times...fairly typical show. Much harder to find a good shotgun buy at any show, with the SAFE ACT in place. No more parking lot sales with that. I would encourage you to go to the show: Get there early...never know what you might find. Good Luck! (Note: If you buy from a dealer...He should handle the background check for free. If you buy from a privalte seller, the show promoter should do the background chect for no more than the NY stipulated $10 fee)
  6. Dave....Did you do that twice since the SAFE ACT ??
  7. Wild goose breast meat...after an overnight soak in V-8...can be sliced and fried...chunked for stew...or ground for burger or sausage. Suggestion: If you do not plan to eat them ... do not shoot them!
  8. Add another choice possibility....Remington 870
  9. Breast them out, but also skin/remove the thighs...delicious meat. Cut thigh meat into bite=sized pieces...pound to tenderize...then deep fry, using the same beer batter you use for fish...DELICIOUS!!!
  10. Hey....Tomatoes have feelings, you know!
  11. Comments in the VIOLENCE thread have encouraged me to share the following poems with you. Both have been published in our local paper. Readers have told me that they made their kids/grandkids read them...and then posted them on the refrigerator door. YOOHOO Put down that cell phone; Look at me for a minute. I know...I know... You are afraid you might miss something. But, let me tell you what you are missing: You are missing me! The lines in my face Represent over 70 years of experience you can benefit from. Come out from behind that I-Pad; I have 70 years worth of stories to tell you. Why must you spend time on Face Book, When my face is right here? The wrinkles in my face represent mistakes made; Mistakes I could help you avoid. If only you would put your electronic gadgets aside, And talk directly to/with me. I did a lot of things right, too. I'd love to share my success stories with you. If only you would turn off your machines, And listen to this old man's real voice. You know, my days are numbered; You cannot put me on hold and come back to me later. So, the choice is yours: Me, a living breathing human...or Your I-devices. HEY!...Over Here!..... It's me... your Grandfather !!!! SUMMER FUN There's nothing to do...I'm bored! Bored??...Or, just lazy? There's nothing in this house to eat; I'm hungry...starving, really! Pull down your Grandma's cookbook; Give one of her recipes a try. It is soooo HOT !! Why can't we get a pool? Because the State or Town Park lake/beach Is bigger and better....and cheaper! Can you drive me to the Gym? I need some exercise to get ready for Fall ball. Walk...behind the lawnmower; Stack that load of firewood that was just delivered. I'm still bored... Life around here is so dull! Explore the trails/woods of our local parks; Get lost....In a book! No air conditioning...no pool; I'm dying with this heat! Let's go wade in the local creek; I'll take you fishing. If you had just coughed up that travel team fee, I could, at least, be playing ball. Get a few friends over here... I'll teach you to play scrub in the backyard...with a wiffle ball. Cable's out...no TV... No computer; My phone battery is dead; I am soooo unconnected! GOOD !!!!!
  12. After my Lab died (Yes, she was one helluva rabbit dog...both cottontails and snowshoes), I, too, had to resort to hunting without a dog. I/We still do well. We usually hunt with only 1-3 guys, and often bag 3-4 rabbits. Great fun...Great eating!

Damn....Deer and bikes do not mix well! I hope you are OK...Wish you well and hope your recovery is fast and complete.
  14. The "belt" never taught a kid anything...other than the one wielding the belt was a hurtful bastard!!!
  15. Good God, buckboy.....You have said a mouthful...pretty much right on the money! Thank you!
  16. There are surely many factors at play here: lack of fathers in the home...sense of hopelessness...violence "empowers"...violence in movies and on TV...and, according to one FBI report, youngsters involved in crime generally lack the ability to read. Now, as to solutions, I sit here scratching my head!!! But, a couple of thoughts: Deadbeat fathers should be punished, severely! We must create avenues for everyone to succeed in life without being in a gang or resorting to violence. Those who choose to hurt someone should be hurt back, only harder. Much movie/TV violence is unrealistic: People get shot...hit over the head with a blunt object, etc., yet return in the next scene. Never do we see the emotional trauma of violence to family/friends. Clean up this media violence...Make sure all our youngsters get a well-rounded education; perhaps devote less effort toward the "gifted & talented". ARRRGGH!!!....This is a serious problem
  17. No reply from DEC on this (Surprise...Surprise!!). Best guess by a retired fish biologist is that the fish suffered a puncture wound (heron or kingfisher)...the wound was filled with silt/grit, and the flesh healed around it. Whatever, some real nice meat ended up in the garbage.
  18. There are two or three places within the Capital District WMA where hunters have shot for years...one, an old gravel pit, is perhaps as safe a place to shoot as you could find. Around a year ago, signs went up around all three areas..."No Target Shooting". Can't figure out why this happened. There was always trash left in/around the gravel pit. However, one week after the signs went up, a truckload of trash: old furniture, tires, etc. showed up. It is obvious that the trash was NOT from shooters, but we are the ones to suffer. Ain't NY great??
  19. It would appear that there is no minimum length...only a maximum length of 16". Personally, I would not hunt with a barrel less than 6".
  20. Another vote for the Hornady XTP's. Grandson has made two one-shot kills on whitetails in the 70-80 yd. range.
  21. Have not tried it...YET! Have you tried Lake Placid UBU ??
  22. Caught a hefty 17+" smallmouth bass today. Found a weird object...claylike cylindrical pellet, 7/8" long and 1/2" in diameter completely encapsulated in one fillet. Any idea what I found? Fish safe to eat?
  23. Suggestion: If you are new to fly fishing, try the Beaverkill in Roscoe...upstream of the Junction Pool. The water in the Rockland area is smaller/friendlier...with some nice trout. Good luck!
  24. Chief and Joseph.....Dream on!!!!!
