  1. Wild turkey cannot compare with other wild game for table fare. No way in hell would I pluck a wild turkey. I skin them just enough to get the breast steaks off along with the thighs (drumsticks???...still have not found a palatable way to use them!) I have a number of good recipes for the breast meat. For the thighs....either chunk, pound and deep fry for appetizers...or grind for burgers or sausage. Oh, and the deep-fry method for whole wild turkey....doesn't work. Deep-fried wild turkey tastes no different/better than roasted tame turkey. Those who say otherwise, are trying to justify their shooting of a turkey!
  2. I will not try anything that tastes like asparagus!!! For the record....milkweed does not!!
  3. Many thanks....I will certainly try your approach.
  4. Stevens marketed doubles under the Stevens lable, along with Riverside, Springfield and one other that I cannot recall. All were really great field guns, in my opinion. Care to share your bluing techniques? I have tried a couple of times...lousy results!
  5. Correct....I meant 2.75". No markings on the barrel, alongside the rib, indicating chamber length or guage. Lay it alongside your 311...If it looks exactly the same...then it is a 311, with the model # left off because of the Springfield brand.
  6. Can you find a serial number? Pull off the forend and see what you can find on the inside. Where on the gun do you find the Stevens name? How about the chamber: 2.5" or 3"? If all else fails, take the gun down and carry just the butt stock to the next gun show. There are usually a couple of vender who have used butt plates....just match one up.
  7. The Community College often is the best choice: Great education...at a bargain price! Back when I was coaching at a Community College, I recruited many athletes by convincing them that the "Price Was Right!"
  8. So....What schools have caught her/your interest?
  9. I totally agree with your, "Don't make turkeys......" comment. You are right; they are just dumb birds. We kill them by providing whatever it is (box call, pot call, mouth call...whatever) they want on the day we are hunting them. Now....is one call really better than the others....not really, but....on that certain day....!!
  10. C'mon G-Man....Movement is movement!!! Box calls and slates are great (I use both), but they cannot compare with the mouth call. If you wish to say that you do not want...or will not use a mouth call....That's okay. Just don't try to justify yur decision because your calls are better than mouth calls. The absolute bes turkey call....is the one he responds to!!!
  11. To each is his own, but your calls require a lot of movement....just what a turkey hunter does NOT need. As far as realism goes...How do you know? Realism is determined by the turkey, not by a turkey hunter. You hear what you hear...but that is not necessarily what the turkey hears.
  12. Give her, and let her use whatever call she wants. BUT....encourage her to learn to use the mouth call. It is tough to beat in the turkey woods.
  13. Efforts to repeal the Safe Act should be directed to COMPLETE REPEAL !!!!
  14. The Senate's repeal of the medical devices tax provision of Obamacare proves that bad laws can be repealed. All it takes is for the court (legislature) to have the principle...and the balls...to stand up to the King. Any/all of our legislators who are sputtering and fuming, but doing nothing to effect a SAFE ACT repeal are just grandstanding! Do not allow yourself to be "smoked"!
  15. Go to MIDWEST TURKEY CALL.....Search for small frame mouth calls.
  16. Do a search for "small frame diaphragms" by HALLY CALLER...Hard to find, but dynamite!
  17. "Beginner's Double" from Quaker Bor, or "Small Talk" from Cane Creek; stay away from stacked reeds for a beginner.
  18. Total amount of daylight has greater influence on breeding than does temperature.
  19. Spring is here when the ultra-hot strawberry blonde from around the corner walks her dog, dressed like something other than an eskimo!!! (For the record: As an eskimo....she looked great!)
  20. Ate woodchuck only once....reminded me of stringy beef chuck roast....pretty damned good!
  21. One must wonder how he came up with the number seven; what did he find wrong with the old 10 rd. limit? Was he aiming to reduce new gun purchases...to stifle or drive certain pistol manufacturers out of the state?...or did he just pull the number seven out of his hat? Does he really think that real criminals will adhere to this or any limit on rds. in a magazine? This guy is really a "chip off the old block", isn't he?
  22. Just read this....sounds delicious; I will definitely give your recipe a try. Thanks!
  23. I think you are right, but don't be surprised in Herr Andy agrees to the old 10 rd. limit, as a "show of good faith"
