A Mossberg is a Remington NOT!
-
I started my grandsons on a Remington 1100, Youth Model 20 ga auto. It was designated a "magnum model", but it cycles all 20 ga. ammo without a problem...with very little recoil. Both boys "graduated" to full size 870's in 20 ga., and they bring home more "bacon" than all their adult hunting partners. My suggestion: 20 ga. auto

7 Rifles That Won and Defended Our Independence
Early replied to josephmrtn's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
No one questions guns 5, 6, 7 ??? What did they have to do with winning or defending our independence?? -
A little something for the old dogs: SEPTEMBER'S DOG Long gone is the frisky pup, With energy seemingly boundless. The old girl now moves slowly about In a world that’s essentially soundless. Where once she could hear the fog lift, She struggles now to hear even the Boss’s gun. Fond memories of long ago hunts Play again as she dreams in the afternoon sun. She is lame, and she is slow And requires more frequent trips to the vet. She’s aging fast, entering the Fall of her life; On the way down, but not out yet. Her hunter’s heart beats strong, And her nose is still keen. If she scents a bird on an infrequent hunt, Watching her trail it is a sight to be seen. Long, daily hunts are no more. Now once, maybe twice a week is all she can endure. Thereafter, she whines and moans in her sleep From soreness the best of drugs just can’t cure. It’s with the greatest of sadness That I watch her grow old. Knowing our hunting days are behind us, I’m sad for both of us, if truth be told. Her looks have changed as she’s grown older: Her quill-marked muzzle is grayer than gray. And despite my trying to feed her well, Her hindquarters continue to wither away. She will never again roam the bird fields; Won’t bust another swamp, nor run another ridge. She’ll not hunt again until we tackle The game-filled flats near the Rainbow Bridge. A hunter no more, she’s just my old friend. It comforts my heart the way she ends each day: When she struggles from her cushion to my bedside And nuzzles my hand to make sure I’m okay Yes, everyone loves a frisky new pup That plays hard, then sleeps like a log. Just give them time together, and they will learn That there’s just nothing like a good Old Dog!

2008 Chevy Colorado I-5 4x4 crew cab; just over 70,000 miles on it. I love it: small enough to handle easy on back dirt roads and pretty damn good gas mileage.

Here's a second vote for the Honda CRV....My wife has one; it is an awesome vehicle.

Good year for apples?
Early replied to NYBuckHunter27's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Re: pruning question.....Even well-pruned trees often set too many apples. Then some fall off early in their development....nature's way of taking some stress off the tree. -
Just a reminder for hunting in the suburbs: The 500 foot rule applies to bows as well as firearms.

Nope....It is a rightie

Antler Restriction Bill?
Early replied to NYBuckHunter27's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Extremely well said, Doc. I share your practice of congratulating hunters on their successes with no picky criticism as to what, exactly, they shot. All whitetails bagged are trophies! -
Antler Restriction Bill?
Early replied to NYBuckHunter27's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I have always viewed deer hunting as a traditional sport. I see no need for regulations such as antler restrictions to make it something else. -
Bill....Are you thinking East Branch? It joins the Beaverkill in East Branch. The West Branch joins the East Branch in Hancock.

Cuomos tax free ......
Early replied to growalot's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
"Tax-Free" sounds good to many.....So does "Free Lunch". Unfortunately, neither exists in reality...We the guys in the barrel pay for both. SAFE ACT + Gambling amendment to the State Constitution + "Tax-Free zones/businesses" = the end of Cuomo.........I hope! (Not holding my breath!) -
Hmmm......Marten, maybe

If the right neighbor comes around.....I'm stripping and dancing!!

"Sweet rig"???? What are you guys smoking??

For "Snack Stix", why not use thigh meat...Save the breast meat for something more gourmet?

Nothing quite like a Lab....Mine, Pepper, was purchased for the princely sum of $15.00. She became the best all purpose (waterfowl...pheasant...grouse...cottontail...snowshoe hare...turkey) hunting dog I ever saw...or imagined. When she died at age 17...I was left heart broken!!

Paranoid??....NO, just cautious!

Hofstra Shooting investigation - college girl shot by cop
Early replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Cop kills an innocent civilian....No excuse for such an action is even remotely acceptable. Cops are killing too many citizens (63 in Chicago alone, last year). Remember...these are the same cops who will be enforcing NY's SAFE Act....Hey, they might shoot you! -
Hofstra Shooting investigation - college girl shot by cop
Early replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Terrible outcome to a bad situation. Cannot help but fault the cops....an innocent citizen, in this case a hostage, of sorts, was killed by a cop. That should NOT happen. -
Good post....Respondents, please consider giving advice for stream fishing for walleyes, as well.
