Deer Attractants, Toeing the Line or Crossing the Line
burmjohn replied to wztirem's topic in General Hunting
They specifically state that "You may use cover scents and lures, such as doe urine, for deer hunting". Anything other then that would be considered illegal. -
Fletch, welcome to the site.

Wow, thats horrible. Was this during the season or? To bad you can't setup some kinda cameras.

Really? Contests? That's crazy. It has to be hard to try to fight that when your not there all the time. I worry a bit by me, but thank got I got to meet everyone that surrounds me, and they all have their property posted (as do I). I think that should keep any trespassers out, because literally the only way in is either past our cabin or through a neighboring property.

I'm almost ready. I need to shoot a bit more @ 30 yards. There were a few leaves on the ground, not much though. The ferns look like they are starting to die off though. I'd like to get a few more stands up before bow starts though.

Master Cylinder on my ATV took a crap :(
burmjohn replied to burmjohn's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
Yup, fixed it Saturday morning when I went up. I swapped out the bad one with the rebuilt one, flushed, bleed, then the pressure picked up right away and worked perfect. It was nice to ride the ATV with brakes -
Deer Attractants, Toeing the Line or Crossing the Line
burmjohn replied to wztirem's topic in General Hunting
I used to use the stuff, and to be honest, I don't think I had one deer come over and sniff it or investigate it. I think this year I'll try nothing, especially since I am on a new property. -
Nice solid bucks. I hope they stick around.

I love it, but the bushnell is great too and a lot cheaper. It's the RC 60.

You think I should spot up the stand with spray?

Just one acre.

Yeah I debated for a while for the right hight for the railings.... But I really won't know till the first season, so if need be, i'll cut them down, but to be honest, I am not a sitter (which can be a bad thing). So anyways, if I am standing, and leaning over for a rifle shot, then it will be OK. In addition, they are low enough to not get in the way with my bow. I will camo burlap the whole stand as well, once bow season comes with zip ties. Regarding the stand lifting, yeah I am sure that might happen, but I put it up on a slight downward angle (Umm on purpose lol, not) , so I can adjust it in a few years by loosening the lag bolts and pushing the ladder inwards if need be.

Based on everyone's recommendations here and friends, I put up my first single tree platform stand. Wow I am impressed, not sure why I didnt consider this before, I always used to pick three tree's then build a nice stand. Now with just one tree, there is that much less chance of crap coming loose.... The next one I built I'll prob make the ladder at a slightly less angle, but I tell you what, its really really nice having it at that angle. And the stand is lag bolted to the tree, in addition to having a support board under it that is lag bolted. This thing ain't going ANYWHERE. I added the railings, which are solid, and also band ironed them to the tree in the back. I screwed the seat in to the floor as well, its really a solid big stand. All treated wood as well, and will prob be up longer then I live. What ya think? [smg id=311] [smg id=310] This is what the area is like below the stand around it... Deer crap and trails all over, with an awesome valley view down the hill / mtn with a view up at a nice valley and peak. [smg id=312] [smg id=313] [smg id=314]

NYBow - Yeah thats a great idea with the chain, I added extra straps on the ladder to the tree on both of the stands. Then up stop they both have 2 straps. My dads stand the lower one, came with a blind kit. Mine I bought burlap for the metal stand and also the wood stand below (which I freaking LOVE!), put that up this weekend too! This one is positioned about 200/250 yards down a valley from the plots, and I will prob hit this opening day of bow morning. WNY - Yeah but just on one plot, unfortunately, the plot that didnt get hammered as much [smg id=311] [smg id=310]

I always take a pack now. I keep it light so you don't even know it on your back. But its nice to have a few calls to play with, drinks, and snacks. This year I'll have my Binocs, Walkie Talkie, range finder, and other stuff to play with. This year I'd love to bring along a video camera / camera to take some pictures. I guess I could stuff that crap into pockets, but I tried that one year, and it drove me nuts.

great pictures!

My brothers / dad's came with the "blind" kit or what ever they call it. I bought burlap for my metal stand and the wood one I put up. I'll prob just zip tie it to the rails.

Great pictures!

Wow that is a big bear.

Hard to see, but maybe the cam is a little high and it might not be getting the ones walking under it.
