  1. +1 on the lots and lots of witnesses.
  2. Also a useless fact, a group of squirrels is called a dray or a scurry. In case you were wondering. http://www.npwrc.usg...imals/names.htm
  3. Yes, I ment use the dog to hunt deer..
  4. Why would anyone buy record sheds on line and pass them off as NY found? Why would anyone fabricate a set of antlers and staple them to a deers head and claim its a world record? I think its some sort of neurotic disease or something. You really have to be craving attention to do something so stupid. This stupidity might have worked in yrs past but with todays technology you are going to get alot of press fast and if its not 100% squeeky clean you will be found out. I just dont get it!! Hope this one is real.
  5. +1, reds are nuerotic about cutiing all the cones down around my house. They are out there all day long for weeks on end till they are all out of the tree. There are a few Middens behind my house in the pine's that are waist high.
  6. You cant trust most hunters ( present company excluded ) to tag and report their deer let alone trust them that they are using a dog legally to track a wounded deer.
  7. If I EVER shoot a monster buck im not moving it till I can get a DEC officer to come and look at it and the area it was shot in. That way no one can say a thing. Here's to hoping its a legit deer but I dont have any faith it is.
  8. The rocks around where I hunt are magnitized and after I shoot a deer they go right for them. I guess I wouldnt have a problem with that if I shot carbons.
  9. Deer are so fast Ive had them duck bullets before!!! Thats my story and im sticking to it.
  10. Broke out the gillie suit today and washed it and hung it out to dry and de scent for a few days. Did a little re arranging of the burlap on the arm to keep my bowstring from hitting it and added a button on front to close the front flap a little better. Most of my stands are set up for the pre rut and rut so I really dont want to go messing them up right now, and its still to warm to go dragging my climber up the mountains. So I hope to get out this weekend and do a little blowdown hunting along a few beat down trail along the creek. Nothing like pegging a deer on the ground on their own turf. Works well if the wind is right. Sometimes I dont even use the Gillie, just stand behind a big tree and keep it between me and the deer. They really get a suprised look on thier face when you step out from behind the tree at full draw.
  11. Rock, its been a while!! Got anything lined up yet?
  12. I dont think you would be very succesfull taking just any dog out in the woods tracking. These Animals are trained for a long time before they are put on a real live trail. I have 4 Dachshounds and They wouldnt have a clue if I just took them out in the woods and had them sniff around.More than likely they would be tracking squirrels, they hate squirrels with a passion. Mice and chipmonks are on their hit list also. Not to mention my wife would kill me if I took my hairy shortlegged daughters out in the woods.
  13. sigh. If blood was pooling it def not lung blood. Lung blood spatters and froths several feet either side of the trail. More than likely the angle of entry was low on the deers body and did not enter the chest cavity. Shot a nice 8 point about 2 yrs ago. I thought I was at 20 but forgot I set tree stand back one more tree and was actually at 26 yrds. Last time I saw the fletch it looked like it had entered the bottom third of the chest behind the leg. But due to the angle of the dangle, the arrow never entered chest cavity. And I knew it wasnt a heart shot 30 sec after he ran 50 yrds and stopped. I watched him and kept praying he would wobble but the doe he was chasing ran by and he went right back to chasing her. I got down and looked and I had a ton of white hair which is a good indicator of a low hit. Hand size smattering of blood directly down on the trail he was on slowly petering out over 100 yrds or so to a few pin pricks. Then nothing.
  14. So I finally dragged my carcass out of bed around 3pm today and made my way outside to the porch to wake up. It was a bit warmer than im use to for a first day of bow and a bit windy but nice. Decided to not go out and puttered around the lawn blowing leaves and making a general nuisance of myself to anyone who was bow hunting behind my house Im sure. Atleast I didn't decide to target practice like my neighbor did last yr. He started shooting about 8 am in the morning and didnt stop till noon. But after 24 yrs of bowhunting 1st days dont really mean alot anymore especially now that Bow starts oct 1st. Most of the areas I hunt are wood lots or mountain sides, ( main reason i didnt go out. dont want to sweat to death hiking up the hill ) no fields or agriculture to hunt so my hunting really doesnt start till the rut kicks in and it gets really cold. Side note my dad went out tonight for 4 hours and didnt see a thing along with 4 of my friends who between them all saw 1 spike. Hope to get out this weekend and see what the kids spook up with their pop guns.
  15. From what ive read this is a problem for the 18 - 25 yrd shots. Under, the shot is to fast for the deer to react fast enough to get out of the way. And over, unless you have a very noisy bow the shot is quite enough that it doesnt seem to bother the deer at all. Or so Ive read.
  16. Ive hunted Delaware county for 15 yrs now and have only seen 2 bucks. This was stateland and not private land though. might be better on private land.
  17. Really guy's???? Anyhow, looked at forcast for the weekend and looks to be warm and rainy for the youth muzzleloader. Bet that playstation will look pretty nice to them after about an hr of Dad yelling at them to sit still, its just a little rain.
  18. Oooooh and in shooting light to!!!
  19. Since I only deer hunt and dont shoot any 3-D I started shooting with broadheads a month ago( I would start sooner but find it very rough on the targets ), Last thing I want to do is shoot a tight group. One arrow and retreive for me. I find shooting broadheads as early as possible the best way to get a perfect tune. You keep tweeking it ever so much each time and those broadheads are like lazer beams to the target.
  20. I still sit and shake my head sometimes thinking about all the deer I prolly scared the crap out of thinking the forest was on fire as I huffed and puffed up and down the hills with a camel unfiltered hanging out my yap. Glad I quit about 8 yrs ago. Still was alot of fun sitting on stand with a cig and a cup of coffee. Must have been enough stank to clear out half the woods of deer.
  21. Its not a porky pig and its def not a Fisher. Im saying its either a Opossum or a Coon with mange. But def not a Fisher. cool pics.
  22. 3 months to go no rush here. Still havent bought my no scent soap, deoderant, or wipes. But I still might head out tommarrow night and sit in the climber overwhatching some oaks and see if I can peg a doe. Shooter bucks wont be out till middle of next month anyhow. Good luck to everyone.
  23. Would def help with the tar and feathering.
