New Study On Bear Attacks Refutes Common Beliefs
erussell replied to Elmo's topic in General Chit Chat
Bears are getting thick here in Broome County, Its very rare not to go into certain parts of the woods and not see a bear and on several occasions last yr up to 5 in one day. Could have shot a few but I really don't know what to do with one if I do shoot one. Have had one experience with a young bear that was none to happy I was in his woods while I was bow hunting one yr and he gave me an escorte out of the woods all the way back to my car. I would like to start taking my daughter with me hunting as she keeps asking to go but with all the bears around I don't dare. -
I'm looking for a new pair of rubber hunting boots and have narrowed it down to the lacross alpha lites or the irish setter rutmaster uninsulated boots. Anyone have a pair of these boot and how long did they last before they dry rotted. I took back the pair of itascas I got this yr, they cracked out after 2 months of deer hunting. Before that I had lacross boots that lasted about 3 yrs before they rotted out. I also have a pair of 2000 gram thinsulate rubber boots that are way to heavy for hunting and I only use for ice fishing that have lasted 10 yrs. Is there anyway to keep rubber boots from dry rotting?

I would love to see the Record back in the states, but the hanson buck is a better looking rack if you ask me.

So youve got your birthers and your deathers, If you beleive the moon effects the rut than are you a mooner?
-
You actually could get a pretty penny for them if you sell them to the crazy china people. They gring them up and drink them in some strange concoction thats suppose to make you strong like bull and put lead in your pencil. I'll personnally stick to Monster drinks.

Anyone finding any Morrells or Oyster's yet ?
-
Kind of interesting that both the current world record and this big deer both had to be hunted down like a rabbit and machine gunned to death. Just shows how hard it is to kill a real monster.
-
Not to mention they shot one side of the rack off the deer which I always though automatically disqualified it from even being scored. http://www.buckmasters.com/2007-cowinner-the-johnny-king-buck.aspx

Also don't forget you need copies of tags for each seperate pc of deer that is quartered. At least thats how I interpret the law. Anyone see anything different?

I know in Broome county we have had a population explosion of fishers, Bears, and Bobcats over the last 10 yrs. I was just watching a fisher the other day running up and down the creek behind my house.

What about the winter kill? In some areas the deer are on the decline and a bad winter kill could be devestating. Would you feed a starving person if he had no food?Dave If you have winter kill you have over capacity. Nature know how to thin the herd. The strongest deer will live to pro create and the weak will die. The ADK has some of the poorest habitat and harshest winters in NY and there are still deer there. Feeding them will only overburden an already crappy habitat causing less natural food weekening the strong deer causing deer survival to be dependant on people feeding them. I have a hard enough time feeding my own family let alone forking out money to feed deer. Cheaper to grow a food plot that regenerates itself.

I try like crazy to fill out all my tags every yr. I just don't do it all on the same pc of property. Once I shoot a deer on a pc of property I move on to another one. I have only filled all my tags once and have never been able to shoot two bucks in one yr. I could eat Venison every day,365 days a yr. I make mostly breakfast sausage, steaks and stew meat. This yr I'm going to take a whole deer down to have it made into pepperonie sticks at a place in PA. Thier so good.

Went out monday for 4 hrs and searched for the other half of the 2 point I found and came up with nothing. On the flip side I really have a good knowledge of the trails the deer use in the fall.

Target practice on State Land
erussell replied to erussell's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I assume it is kids ( young adults ) doing it because of the fresh cans of energy drinks laying around and the general lack of respect for the land, not saying that all kids are bad but just an observation. Also found 4 paint cans that I can only assume were full by the amount of splatter on the surrounding trees and ground. What a friggen mess. -
If you can't prove it with facts baffle them with bullcrap approach ;D

Target practice on State Land
erussell replied to erussell's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I went there today with a garbage bag and picked up 1100 shotgun shells and didn't even put a dent in it. Thats not counting all the pistol, 223 and 7.62 shells. I'm going to try and get back over there with a rake and my dog crap picker upper this week and work on getting more of it picked up. Def. going to give the Game Warden a call don't expect him to give a crap though. I would have a hard time beleiving it was legal to target practice on state land especially from all the carnage I saw on the trees today, I think the state would frown on it. -
Target practice on State Land
erussell replied to erussell's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Not shooting over the road, shooting down the road. By the looks of it they were standing in the middle of the road shooting down it. ??? -
OK-back out slowly and sneak back in when she aint looken! Roger backing out now.

Does anyone know if target practice is legal on state land? Because these yahoos are really making a mess of a state land by my house. I drove down there the other day and there was a 30 ft section of the road that was orange with busted clay pidgeons and a huge pile of spent shot shells laying in the middle of the road. Then you go another 100 yrds down the road and there is a spot everyone shoots and there are thousands of spent caseing, shot up target's, bullet riddled trees and state signs. Am going to try and get down there this week with a few trash bags and try and pick up some of these douchebags garbage. > I was under the impression you were not allowed to target practice on stateland.

Finally found a shed after 5 hrs of searching today . Still have a lot of ground in a thick pine wintering area to cover. Wife is starting to get annoyed.

As the weather warms up and everyone gets out to enjoy some shooting, please be sure to be safe. Unlike this dude who took one to the back of the head by a friend not paying attention and yes it was a broadhead to.

Need a little help picking arrows. Want to stick with aluminum xx78's mostly because thats all Ive ever shot and I'm stubborn and don't want to change to carbon. I have a 28inch draw and pull 70lbs with a 100 grain low profile fixed broadhead with a single cam. My question is, it shows four different choices on the Easton chart. Iv'e always just gone with the bow shops suggestions and it has always been 2315. Why not one of the other choices? To bad it wasn't legal to take each fish and shove it up thier arse and twist it. See how many people catch fish out of season then
