  1. I heard it was 8 point outside the ears You guys are to funny, I wonder if there are any other hunting sites that a topic can go from talking about eating fawns, to inuendos, to name calling to homosexual perversion and back to eating fawns. To funny.
  2. Interesting article I found on deer movement. It's quite lenthy but if you can hold in there its a good read and informative. We noted in Chapter 8 that some older bucks just pull up stakes and move after the velvet drops from their antlers. They may stay in their new home range a whole year and then return to the original home range. Or they may just come back to visit their original home range. Either way, it explains in part why some bucks you’ve been hunting just up and disappear. It also explains why you may see a big buck on your area, that you have never seen before. The reason? He wasn’t there before and he just moved in. The Tomberlin study in Maryland spent considerable effort looking at buck movements during the rut. Turns out that all bucks don’t just have one home range. Take “40 orange” for example. This 4 1/2-year-old buck had two home ranges over 1.2 miles apart. In the summer, he lived in one home range, but from Sep 3 to Sep 23, he used both areas. After that he moved to the second home range. http://www.imbmonsterbucks.com/info.php?id=215
  3. thier was lots of 9mm, 45, 223, 30-06, and steel 762 laying around. Raked up alot of it to but its harder to get than the shotgun shells.
  4. PA has something simular I think. Do you still have to ask permission to hunt or can you just find the signs and hunt? If it's just find a sign and hunt ,If I owned land I would have a hard time agreeing to this as I think a lot of land owners on this sight probably would to. I would rather know who was there and where they were. To many people have no respect for other peoples property now adays. Now I don't think they are a majority of the hunters but it only takes one close call or a bullet through a land owners window to ruin it for all of us. I think most people would rather have a say in whom they let hunt. This thread is way off the original subject, so who likes the Oct 1st start to the bow season ?
  5. Lots of good it did to rake up all those shot shells, went back there yesterday and there is just as many laying around again. >
  6. No where in my rant did I say anything about the government forcing anyone to open up there land. I have read and re read it and not sure how it got taken that way. I am no friend of government intrusion into any part of anyones lives, though I am for rule of law, anyhow, let me refrase It, hunters who own land and keep bemoning the loss of the hunter ranks need to start putting their money where there mouth is and take a hard look at themselves. What are you doing to promote hunting besides buying a tag? How many have allowed a parent and there kid hunt on there land? I'm not saying let every sh-- head who drives up and ask's to hunt, hunt. Grill them and let them know what is expected if you decide to let someone hunt. Every season I drive by thousands of acreas of private land loaded with deer that have very few hunters on them. And yes that is your God given right as a tax paying citizen to post it up tight. But are you causing more harm to our sport by your irrational fear of loseing a few deer to someone else that are probably going to die over the winter or get hit by a car anyhow. So next time someone stops and asks to hunt especially with there kid, spend a few moments to find out what thier all about and if they seem alright then give them some time on your land. And it doesn't even have to be for deer. Tell them no deer hunting but small game hunting is allowed. If you like what you see invite them to deer hunt a few days to thin the does out. You may help hook a child on hunting. And for those of you who already do this it is appreciated and will do more for the sport than any government mandated youth hunts.

    New bow

Finally got her all set up today and shot a few arrows out of her when I got home. Need to make a few adjustments sometime this week but man is she nice to shoot. One thing I am a little leary about is I got aluminum arrows xx75 super light's and he put blazer fletchings on them. I asked if they were ok to put on aluminum arrows and if they were ok to stear my broadheads and he swore by them. Anyone else have blazers on your aluminum arrows? They look funny having such a tiny fletching on a 2315 telephone pole but they seem to group nicely so we will see what happens when I put broadheads on. Worst comes to worst I can just have them stripped off and refletched.
  8. Decided on the Muck Boot Arctic pro. They are a $160 boot and the local Agway had them for sale for $104 so I couldn't pass them up they are like walking on air a wicked light.
  9. I still don't see the point even if they put the season right in the middle of summer. I think Hunter numbers are dwindling because access to huntable land is dwindling. If the parents can't get to the quality land then everyone will be crowding into the stateland and more than likely not see anything anyhow. So yeah its great for kids who's parents own land who are going to be hunters anyhow. But how does that fix the problem, we need to recruit fresh blood, kids who more than likely were not going to be hunters also. That is going to require a lot more sacrifice on all of our parts than just throwing a few youth days at it to appease the youth day people. Were going to actually have to take the time to mentor a child through the whole season. And people with land are going to have to open it up and just bite the bullet no matter how much you dislike the thought of someone else hunting your land. I actually don't think deer hunting is really what you should get children started on anyhow. Squirrles and rabbits and a 410 is much more exciting to start out with than sitting in the woods for hours and not seeing anything.
  10. I still don't understand or see the need for the whole youth hunt day's. Do you agree with the Youth Turkey hunting weekend? Same thing. I still dont understand why it would be such a big problem for some of you guys. Not that I have a problem with kids hunting deer, but what's the use of a 2 day hunt for kids. Where you going to put it, the weekend of the 1st day of gun? in the middle of bow season during the rut? These are the only two viable options in my opinion for success for the kids. Bow hunting is already hard enough without someone running around scaring the piss out of the deer shooting at them with a gun in the middle of the season. And 1st day of gun is not even worth comment. I have an Idea why don't people with kids who can hunt take them out during the regular deer season like my Dad did. Why should people with kids inconvinence the rest of the hunting world that is spending a turd load of money to hunt. So I call BS on the whole kids hunting days. If they are of legal age to hunt theey can hunt all they want during the open season.
  11. I see alot of 3's and 4's how bout some sevens, someone roll me a 7s, 7r, and 7m please.
  12. I still don't understand or see the need for the whole youth hunt day's.
  13. Early season oct 1st would be great for bow, less clothes, more cover to hide in, bucks are still in there bachelor groups. Only down side is, I know there going to try and work crossbows into bow and an early muzzleloader season in there. If they do sneek an early muzzleloader in, they should work it in the week before gun. Usually sucks for bow hunting around here then anyhow.
  14. Why not put early muzzleloader and a youth hunt the first week of gun. I for one would be all for an early oct 1st start to a bow season. Bucks are still in there bachelor groups then so it is much easier to kill off all the bucks before the gun hunters get in the woods.
  15. Depends on how small we are talking. You will be suprised how fast deer can clean a small kill plot out. I made one last yr about 15 yrds wide by 30 yrds long and planted it up with rye, turnips and canola. Came up nice and thick and green. Week before bow we had a frost and before bow could get here they had it mowed down to dirt. This yr im just going to go with the rye and canola and try to make it a tad bigger .
  16. http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/06/11/connecticut.mountain.lion/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 Looks like it got hit by a car
  17. I can say there is nothing worse than hunting a standing corn in the fall. Usually every animal in the woods is in there pounding the corn. Its amazing how much noise 30 turkeys, 20 squirrel, and a herd of deer make trying to pull the corn off the stalk.
  18. I don't understand, why cut it down? Ears are right at deer face level for them to eat and the stalks provide cover. Seems like a lot of work for no noticeable gain.
  19. Winchestr ballistic tips come in 168 grain
  20. Tell that to the Benoits, they use uninsulated lightly soled rubber boots exclusively and they walk 15 miles or more in a day for weeks on end till they find something they want to shoot. I think it matters what kind of rubber boots you get. You get 15 dollar rubber boots from walmart your going to be hurting if you walk for a while in those. The lacross boots I had were almost like wearing sneakers. I walked all day on some steep NYC watershed land for several days in a row and my legs killed me but my feet never hurt.
  21. Just deer mostly. I'm not to sure if they are the best choice for deer tho they look a little thick skinned for a thin skinned animal. I'm looking for a boat tail bullet to try and tighten up my groups out of the 750. The remington psp groups a little loose, adequate to kill a deer, but loose. Might try the fusion bonded bullets, they come in a boattail and are just a little more expensive than corelocks.
  22. Remington sciroccos, anyone ever use them and how do you think they will perform out of the 750? http://www.remington.com/pages/news-and-resources/ballistics.aspx
  23. Especially when you see them big horns coming! Iv'e seen people fall completelly apart at deer under 20 yrds and shoot ten yrds over the deers back before. Some of the best target shooters make the worst deer hunters. Shooting is good to train the eyes, fingers and body to shoot correctly but if you can't overcome the mental overload it doesn't matter if the target is at 50 or 5 yrds.
