  1. well, I had a chance to try this stuff out......I put it on a few trees around my stand and had multiple deer come in, I watched them checking the wind and it appeared they were picking up the scent of the Ever Calm.....usually when I see deer checking the wind, it's a sign that they've got my scent and are about to get out of town, this time they just went back to feeding and eventually passed by my stand. I'll definitely use this stuff again.

  2. I've always hunted my family's land and have just recently begun hunting various stay lands during bow season. I'll sometimes see 4-5 cars parked, so it's clear that others are out there.

I'm a spot and stalk or still hunting guy just don't like blinds or stands. Is this safe on state land, especially in rifle counties? I'm very hesitant. Also I feel like I'd be apprehensive to EVER shoot at anything while on public land, because in reality I can never know for sure what's behind my target.

    Are my concerns valid?

with the distance a rifle bullet is capable of travelling, you would have to have a huge parcel of private land to be 100% sure of the bullet never leaving your property and striking an unintended target........safety is always a valid concern, but unfortunately you can never fully be 100% sure of most things in life.

  3. Thank you for the replies- i did notice some tape as I was scouting- do people use that to mark their spots? I would try to have mine a little more hidden if it were me! the tape marking a trail was marked like a highway.

yeah, people use it to mark their spots and then think nothing of leaving it after the season......after awhile it becomes trash no different than a plastic water bottle or candy wrapper left behind. I always clean up any trash I find, old marking tape and glow in the dark thumb tacks included.

  4. you really can't to expect to see the exact ratio when you're in a hunting situation.....the ratio may be pretty close to what it should be, but that doesn't mean for every 2 doe you see that the next deer should be a buck.

  5. Why does anyone need a rest for a xbow? I shoot offhand just fine out to 40 yards or off my knee when sitting.

not everyone has your upper body strength, some people have bad shoulders and need a crutch to lean on.....

  6. Smaller calibers are better.   I can sit at the range all day with my .243.  Practice for hours.    While the magnum hunters with the muzzle brakes develop a flinch, and are deaf.

I have never read on a forum any deer that ran away from a .243.

the deafness is probably attributed to no hearing protection, not caliber.

  7. I've used climbers as a hang on, just make sure you secure it with a ratchet strap or two......unless it's a bright shiny aluminum ladder I'd leave it.....maybe wash it with water and baking soda and hose it down real good before bringing it in.....the less people and activity around the area the better.

  8. I wish these venison donation places would take names of people in need from people who know who they are......I don't donate anything because I enjoy the meat, but would gladly give it up to a local family who really needs it but is to proud to ask or stand in line at a food pantry.

  9. get yourself in a spot so you can see a pretty good ways towards were you expect to see them, you don't want to be too hidden to the point that when you see them they're already on top of you......deer have a pretty short memory if not spooked too badly, if in doubt give it a days rest, but I wouldn't think twice about going to the same spot the next day. I would get ready as soon as I saw the deer coming and not wait until I decide if I'm gonna shoot to do so. I would say movement is more important than concealment.

  10. Well I was able to talk to my professor today and get the class off to go look for the deer before my midterm. I found him about 400 yards from the place i shot him. Turns out that my shot was a double lung shot but the little guy still ran all that way before going down. Do any of you know how he could have made it that far with a double lung shot. I know of some one who tracked a double lung shot deer for 700 yards before so I'm thinking that the adrenalin kept the guy going. Ill post the pics when I get home from class today. Only thing ill say is that some of you guys act like you never had a laps in judgment before and in no way was i making any excuses for what happened.

we all make mistakes...it's how you came off describing it that was a little disturbing.
