  1. so many more deer are killed and retrieved immediately and then subjected to poor handling before being butchered and consumed than there are deer ruined by being gutshot and left overnight ......don't sweat it, if it's beyond saving you'll know it when you butcher it.

  2. scents are the only legal baits for bear in NY. I would have to look it up but I think you can only use 1.5 ounces of liquid sent. The fish would be illegal baiting.

I think that's accurate....I was wondering if burns are legal, some places boil honey or other attractants to bring them in, and when you think about it, you're not dumping anything on the ground for them to eat, and you're taking it out with you when you leave.

  3. Especially for the all day sits, I would think it's better to have something warm to drink than cold bland water.  It seems like the younger generation are hooked on water, but from my experience having something to warm you up on those cold days can definitely make one a bit more comfortable.

    Blackberry Brandy....

  4. if other people have just as much right on the property as you, I think you'll have a tough time keeping that spot locked down as your own, especially if you only hunt weekends and they hunt during the week.....you can make your stand unusable, but that's not gonna keep them out of the spot if they choose to set up their own stand.....and if there's a chance it'll rub some people the wrong way, you better hope the landowner likes you better than the other guy, I've seen people asked not to return to some property because those with permission couldn't get along and the landowner solved the problem by eliminating some of the hunters.

  5. Ya I knew I was going to catch a little flack for this but I cant say its not undeserved. I made a rookie mistake for the first time in a few years. I didn't think it was going to be a bad shot but I forgot to mention that I hit my Tree stand when I shot so it pulled my shot a few inches from where I wanted it to be. It wasn't a bad angle but I normally like to wait for a better one. I wont be able to get out to look for it but the next door neighbor is going to give it a shot. I posted this knowing id get a few responses I wouldn't like but its the truth and its the first deer I have ever not been able to find.

of course you didn't find it, you put zero effort into tracking it..........I hope karma comes around and you see nothing for the rest of the season, that way you won't have a chance to do this to another deer.....and what's the plan if the neighbor finds it?, you gonna find the time to go tag it or is he going to have to use his tag.......or neither?

  6. first let me say I enjoy your videos and posts...but in this one, it appears that the deer are as much interested in the decoy as they are disinterested.....is this a spot where they usually feel comfortable and the introduction of the decoy is secondary to their comfort zone?, or did the decoy and scent actually play a part in bringing them in?..once again nice job videoing it, but if the deer are already accustomed to feeding here for one reason or another, I think it's best to say that the decoy doesn't scare them off...not so much lure them in.

  7. I keep a spare vest in my bag for friends or my self. I did not know about the soap but I use a hunting brand so should be o

most detergents contain uv brighteners, avoid those when washing clothes......there's no doubt that deer will pick out an unnatural looking blob no matter what the color scheme, if in doubt of solid orange wear camo orange. I hear many guys saying that all they wear is an orange hat, keep in mind that that's the body part that usually moves the most when hunting....I would wear an orange vest over hat any day, if you're walking around, you can never wear too much orange in my opinion.

  8. NYSDEC states 1 antler 3" or more to be a Buck,if less then that you have to use a DMP.

I think they're talking points as far as what's considered a point on a legally antlered deer....not what makes a deer legally antlered as far as tagging it as such

  9. people need to blame something whenever there's a lack of deer sightings, whether it be poachers, too many deer tags, coyotes, bad winters...you name it. I'm sure they all may play a part, but is one any worse than the other? I have never seen one myself and would think if they're that rampant I should have....however, I have seen bad winters, poachers and what I feel were too many tags given out in certain areas.

  10. I have been looking and doing as much research as I can. With the 200lb limit,17"tip to tip and whatnot what are your guys and gals votes for the best NY crossbow.I like a few Excalibers,Kodabow and the vertical inline crossbow also.

I was looking and had the same question...decided to put it off a year since it's new to NY, gonna wait and see what people have to say after the they've had a chance to own and use them a bit.

  11. Jeesh folks, Daryll on The Walking Dead has no problems with his !

PS I still would like to see a .22 on this show considering it's the most popular caliber in the world. Haven't seen one yet !

I want to find out were he gets his bolts....he's been using the same one forever, very durable.

  12. Oh you dont know the ones that shoot a doe in say 6G and put a 8H tag on it? I know it happens and i would bet it happens ALOT!

no doubt, I always just pick the area I hunt for both choices, at least if I get denied I got the preference point for next year.......I never understood why guys would take that type of gamble with their hunting privilege.

  13. Ok we aren't aloud to bait in NY. But why does every sporting good shop. Sell salt licks, or bags of attractions. Like deer cocaine or dirt bag. If we can't use it why sell it?

same reason you can go into just about any convenience store and buy all the gadgets and stuff to smoke marijuana or crack.......not illegal to have the means to do it, just illegal to put the finishing touches on it.

  14. just picked some up myself.....probably the first the first deer scent I've bought in 25 years. The question I have, is how do they collect bedding scent?, all the other type scents have a pretty obvious source, but how do they separate bedding odors from the bedding material?

  15. who carries them when hunting? I haven't, but with antler restrictions in my area these days, and eyes not what they once were, I need to make sure of what I'm shooting......just picked up a pair of Nikon's and am contemplating opening the box or returning them.

  16. Thanks.....next time add a few more smiley faces so you get the humor.

    :). :). :)

what's next....is someone gonna tell me that the warming feeling I get when I drink blackberry brandy on stand is not really raising my core body temperature?

  17. It was windy today, I saw "%@$@#%%@" nothing, will try tomorrow again.... I would take x-bow over compound any day and twice on Sunday....while I love close encounters, holding that biatch 50/60/70/80 pounds for 3-5 min it ain't fun... with x-bow is point and click, can't beat that... IMHO.....

nope can't beat that, just like shooting a gun. ain't nothing to it........
