Pretty simple .....eh? Buy your general big game hunting license. Have one buck tag issued that covers all seasons. go for your antlerless draw(s). And away you go. what could be simpler. And on top of that, look at the paperwork and unique databases you could scrap. Sounds good to me.
Not only that, but if you want hunters to be more selective with their harvests, what better way than having them make their one and only buck tag count.
just like the old days........what could be simpler?,,and do away with AR's in the process.

They wont have their own season, they'll be allowed in all seasons.
I realize that, but was just going off my earlier post were I suggested a separate season dictated by weapon...as it stands now, I'll just stick with my compound.

Maybe that is the answer JJ no special tags. Just one and done
as much as I love hunting, I just may plunk down a grand for a nice crossbow and another $25 for extra tags if it offers me more time in the woods and another season, and I'm sure I'm not alone.............but I'd be happier if they reeled in the amount of tags issued and their cross season usage.

Just in a general statement. You have primitive hunters who like recurve, longbow, flintlock and cap & ball. You have compound bows, pistol hunters, rifle hunters, shotgun hunters, modern black powder and now crossbow hunters. I think I about covered it. So how do you give guys equal access with equal ability without cutting access. Set a primitive season, gun season, muzzleloader, compound, crossbow and then gun? Do you give each type a week? It gets dicey how you carve out each type so you don't get crossover and destroy another guys preferred method. I don't know the answer but can sure see the problems others have.
you start out quietly with traditional archery (recurve and longbow only) and slowly increase the volume into the loudest most invasive weapon........traditional, compound, crossbbow, flintlock, percussion, inline and than finally modern smokeless powder weapons........oh it's complex, but the only way to do it fairly and keep everyone happy while allowing all weapons.........and I hope they reduce it to a one buck a year rule on top of that, no more tags for each weapon, that way you gotta pick whats most important to you as far as your preferred method of harvest.

I say set the rules and maybe choose 2 others to vote with you.........otherwise one kid could have an advantage based on the amount of potential voters he may know.

I think that someone from NYC made a post not too far in the past from The NYPD or someone in City Gov't, telling him the guns he registered needed to be modified, sold or turned in..........this is what I anticipate happening if it ever comes to it in NY, if they somehow have a record of you buying or owning an "assault weapon", you will be notified of your need to register it,or if you no longer have it show proof of sale or a notarized letter swearing you no longer have it........it's your choice to do as you see right, what happens after is up to you........mass confiscation and the Gestapo kicking in your door will probably never happen, but you will be considered a criminal by the Gov't if you don't comply...........but, I may very well be wrong.

That's my point, they are already being used and where's the great deer slaughter that the Anti's claim.
so you're saying you know numerous people who qualify for a crossbow permit in NY? I think most of us would be hard pressed to find 1 or 2 people who qualify, unless you're involved in an organization who helps disabled hunter's, I find it hard to believe, or are they just using them because they want to continue hunting regardless of the law?

I feel bad for all the public land hunters if they allow X bows during the archery season. It's going to be just like gun season minus hearing the gun shots.
that's my concern, I really have no problem with the weapon......just concerned as to what type of hunter it will attract and what methods they use while hunting, I envision guys stalking through the woods with their crossbows and hunting with them exactly the way they do when gun hunting.................hopefully it's an unfounded concern.

This is what kills me the most about these insane arguments against crossbows, is that they are already being used by a lot of hunters across the state and have been for several years. Members of my club use them and my neighboring clubs use them. They have not changed our bowhunting experience in any way except to allow the hunter's I do know use them to continue to participate in a sport that they love. Most of these are older hunters who find using Crossbows much more comfortable than a Compound bow. These are the same Hunter's that were Bow hunting long before most of the anti- crossbow crowd were twinkles in their parents eyes. If you check in on any bow shop in the Southern Tier they will tell you that they are selling a lot of Crossbows. Whether or not using Crossbows becomes law, they will continue to be used and by more and more hunters. The anti group needs to get over it.
you're saying you know a lot of hunter's in New York who use them? last I checked you had to pretty much be a blowing through a tube and confined to a wheelchair in order to get a permit...........

Bingo!!! I'm more of a hands on than able to explain. I just thought it was pretty much common sense. Not to throw a curveball in the mix of your explanation, but now what will you need to do to get that string to touch your face after you have shortened the DL?
first let me say I don't use a D-Loop, so this has never been a problem for me just found it an interesting topic so it got me thinking..........and I would assume one would have to move their face forward, thus throwing off their form......and I think that having someone help you hands on, gets the point across a lot easier, because you can see and feel the changes.....

being one of the ones who didn't quite understand the whole DL changing / not changing when you add a D-Loop, I think I do now and can maybe explain it in simple terms......if your DL is 29", your string draws 29" away from the bow (to keep it simple) and stops at a certain point on your face that you probably use as an anchor point, for me it's the tip of my nose and corner of my mouth........if I add a D-Loop, that string is still going to stop at the same anchor points because 29" of draw is 29" of draw......now say I want to shorten my draw length by say 1/2 an inch, because I don't like where my hand stops, that string will no longer have the length to reach my anchor points because it's now 1/2" too short...........does that make sense?

Then it would be wise for these people to try to listen to a more qualified individual on here instead of arguing with them...............BTW I made it 15 pages before jumping in!
I would think it's hard to be sure of a persons qualifications from an anonymous message board.........I've maybe picked 3 people out of these 15 pages who convinced me they know what they're talking about, and I'm certainly not one of them.

I bet there has been so much misinformation given out to casual archer's from less than perfect shop's and salesman that a lot of guys honestly don't know what's right or wrong, or what has been working for them forever without problems may not be the right way to do it.......not everyone is obsessed with equipment, some go to the shop, have their bow set up and practice like they should before hunting, and every problem that pops up the shop fixes it.

moog, out of curiosity, I took out that old PSE I talked about earlier...........there is a stop on the bottom cam only, and it stops against the cable that is closest to the inside of the limb "fork", so it's obviously not a solid stop, and if you give it a little extra pull, it actually forces that cable in, and thats where I am able to get the extra draw out of it, poor design as I can also see where that stop wears on the cable.

is CWD something new or is it that testing is relatively new?.........I wouldn't be surprised if it's been around forever...........and I have no scientific evidence to back that up.

section 35.20.This is were it says you have no duty to "retreat", not that you can just use DPF, when you confront someone committing a "forcible rape" or any of the other crimes listed above.......I still believe you would have a problem if you snuck up on them and just killed them without making any other reasonable attempt to terminate it, but that's just my thought.

I never came out and said you were 100% wrong, what I said was if you were involved in something like that there is no doubt you would find yourself in legal trouble....if all you needed to cover yourself was those few paragraphs in the Penal Law, the court systems might not be so backed up. If the law was that cut and dry, we wouldn't have lawyers "arguing" the law, all they would have to do is point at those few paragraphs and say "see, it says it right here that he could do it"...........

Currently on my phone. I will post the law for you tomorrow. I have spoken with police and defense attorneys about multiple issues including this one. DPF carries no requirement to do things like presenting yourself or giving notification in a case of rape. Contrary to what you alluded to for in home DPF also. Have you asked?
yes, I have asked...I don't know what you think I alluded to about in home DPF, but I'm pretty sure I said all bets are off when you are in your own home....no need to post the law, I have it.

talk to a Police Officer or a Criminal Law Prosecutor or Criminal Defense Attorney...you may find out differently, the use of DPF and the justifications for its use are not that simple.

you would actually have to prove it was necessary and there was no other means to terminate it, even a Police Officer couldn't just walk up behind someone doing what you described and just kill them...but if you believe that's all there is to it, I don't know what to tell you.

First he stops with a trail right to his left. Second you can see where he stops the second time after creeping closer to the moose someone else has already driven off to the side of the trail with a snowmobile. So the snows not too deep and he had an alternative trail to take right from the start. He pushed his luck to far with his inability to respect the wildlife in there home. My opinion, what a piece of crap. You ever see a whitetail dispatched with a glock? It aint pretty let alone a moose, that moose had to suffer for some time after words.
yeah, he should have at least had the decency to finish it off...and my opinion of him is right up there with yours.

outside of your own home or business, I would say it's a good idea to be reasonably certain that DPF is being used or threatened against you or another person before you yourself resort to it.....I think you would find yourself in a bit of legal trouble if you witnessed a rape and just walked up behind the guy and lit him up.

Here's a question I have, I see there's two ways to measure draw length......the one with the mathematical formula were you measure your arm span and do the calculation and the one with the marked arrow that you draw back to your anchor point and then add 1.75 inches, and not everyone uses the same anchor point...will you get the same measurement from both methods?

are there any military gun buffs out there that could give me some idea what a handgun may be worth? I have a High Standard .22 stamped U.S. Property that from what I can find is from a lot of High Standards that were produced for the U.S. Gov't as a training pistol from th WWII era.......the regular ones without that stamp seem to go for anywhere from $300-$500, from what I found this one may fetch a much higher price.....anyone have any idea?
