  1. There are tiny ants in the camera . I sprayed some ant killer on cotton balls and put them in a sealed container . If it isn't raining when I get to the swamp , I plan to put the treated cotton balls in the camera housing and see if that helps .

I think the camera generates some warmth and that's what attracts the ants.

  2. Add to that, the cost of paying for governemnt (ie Albany) and the downstate politicians and also the prison's that house the downstate criminals. Then add on our property taxes ect. and upstate looses. And if you want to realy get nit picky subtract out all of the water and power we send them for cheap.

can you send some of that cheap power to Long Island?

  3. #2 is tricky, did a quick search and found that if you leave from the US side and plan on venturing to the Canadian side you need to call ahead and notify them....but that was a a 2009 article, so it really ain't worth much.

  4. First I'm not a NYB member!! Second I'm disabled and can not shoot a bow anylonger!! You guy's make the NYB out to be some kind of big bad boggie man when in fact there are many more sportsmaen and women out the that feel that X-Bows are not archery. Third I do believe that those that have a disabilty that prevents them from drawing a bow  should be able to use one if they so choose. It's just not for me!!!! I feel that the challange of hunting with a bow and arrow is getting close to  the game, drawing the string back, keeping your nerves intack enough to make a clean kill. Not picking up a X-Bow putting the stock agianst your shoulder, looking through a scope, and squezzing a trigger. If I wanted to do that then I would pick up a rifle which I have!!

The problem I see here are all the other hunters out there that are not disabled looking for the easy way out so they can use a X-bow to get into archery season!!

I don't think the NYBowhunters are any worse than the pro crossbow people, both special interest groups...I bailed out on NYBowhunters when they tried to backdoor having the youth hunt shot down along with their anti crossbow bill..........I can't see backing a group only when it's convenient for my wants, so that's why I'll stick to voicing my own opinion........as for the rest of your post on crossbows, I agree.

  5. 1) where do I get a list of boat/trailer regulations in writing?

    2) where do I find regulations on fishing border areas, specifically upper Niagara River with regard to legal boundaries to Canadian water?

    3) if you (not me) catch a smaller than legal fish that has swallowed the hook bad, what is the best thing to do, just snip your line and leave the hook in place and return the fish to the water?

    Thanks in advance...........

    -1 & 2 I have no idea

-3 that's what they say gives the chance the best chance of survival........... if it's an expensive lure, take a few good wraps of line around your hand and give it a good yank..........either way return it to the water.

  6. I agree 100%....I couldn't bowhunt last year due to my disabling side affects of cancer, and won't be able to this year cause the only way I can bowhunt is with a crossbow. Like I said in earlier post, there is a group of archery hunters that are happy as hell that fellow hunters who are disabled and can only use crossbows to archery hunt, won't be able to cause the politicians in Albany refuse to pass crossbow bill. Yes, those hunters are happy as hell that the disabled won't be able to hunt during the archery season.

but yet, I have a friend who was unable to get around due to a pretty major knee injury and he was issued a permit to shoot a gun / hunt from his vehicle.....my other question is, does DEC have the ability to tweak the requirements for a crossbow permit or is that in the hands of clueless politicians as well?

  7. OK time to put in toll booths to all roads going out of L.I.,you wantto get out it will cost you 50 bucks!!LOL just razing yall!

I already think it takes $50 bucks to get off L.I. and out of NYC..........but that's another story, where the hell does all that toll money go? I did a search on just the George Washington bridge and it apparently takes in 1 million a day!!!

  8. Hunt in Long Island north shore in sound sometimes stay in bays and sometimes out in sound what type (species) do you guys use ? Looking to get some more I mostly just use blue bills?.

If you're mostly hunting bay ducks, I don't think species of decoys really matter, any type of bay duck decoy with a lot of white will more than likely work.......visibility is more important than species.

  9. This seems to always be a hot topic, there seems to be a lot of blame from people who live in different parts of the state blaming others for the tax burden.........downstate blames upstate and upstate blames downstate, but does anyone really have the correct answer? I do not, because I really don't know..........just by shear population, I would think downstate must contribute more. But, who's needing more from who?

  10. Theres still a chance. They start back up in either August or September. They have squeezed things like this in at the last minute before. Remember the youth deer hunt last year? The first go round with crossbows was put into place rather quickly as well.

Im hopeful that they will get it moved on this year, though I would have rather seen it done early so that it wouldnt have to be rushed. We will see.

I remember the youth hunt fiasco, was literally right before it was supposed to start before it got the green light......but, if I remember, that was held up by the bill that NYBowhunters were trying to get passed that would have effectively squashed any other weapons besides longbows to be allowed during any Archery season.......I don't remember if it was vetoed or just left to die.

  11. and for what it's worth, I would have no problem with traditional archers getting an earlier start than modern archer's........much like I wished they never allowed modern muzzleloaders in the muzzleloader season, a scoped, inline muzzleloader with modern ammo kinda takes away from it if you ask me.

  12. I would suggest that until things change a bit, it would always be a good idea to phone ahead and check on availability before hopping in the car. This fiasco is by no means over with. And by the way, a phone call with mail-order outfits to check availability may save you a lot of waiting on back-orders and such. Don't just fill out the order blank and mail it in. You may be in for a long wait .... lol.

and if they say they have it, it may be gone when you get there....with that website it was real time availalilty, no back ordering needed.

  13. Crossbows offer an advantage over my recurve - that is why they have separate classes at archery events.

Compounds over an advantage over my recurve - that is why they have separate classes at archery events.

Crossbows offer advantages over compounds -  that is why they have separate classes at archery events.

Compounds over an advantage over crossbows - that is why they have separate classes at archery events and the scores are higher than the crossbows competing on the same courses.

Muzzleloaders have advantages over all the above and are not allowed at archery events - not even in their own classes. Why? Because they are not archery equipment as determined by at least 2 of the largest archery organizations (determined by participant numbers) in the country.

of course I started this topic to get people's reaction's and see where it would go.....and if you're a recurve shooter, I tip my hat to you, because my compound offers a tremendous advantage over your recurve. But, I still think a crossbow offers a monumental advantage over both, especially in the hunting field.

  14. you can't cruise the net to find this stuff.  got to show up in the stores or make phone calls.  otherwise you're competing to get ammo with everyone is looking and can go online.  if you do see it online it's gone in less than an hour or you're paying waaayyyyy too much.

I have to disagree, got tired of driving to gunshops only to find nothing....someone told me about GunBot.com and I found what I needed within two days at Cabela's at the pre ammo frenzy price.
