  1. old enough, old enough and old enough..........not the answer you wanted, but couldn't resist.
  2. I would think that would be a huge investment for a minimal return....
  3. I would guess that depends on whether or not you have a large parcel of land locked up, leaving them be for two weeks probably will not affect the overall outcome of that persons season......personally I would hunt either way, but totally understand the reasoning of some for not hunting.
  4. my question is, if you were to fall with that setup, being that it attaches around your waist, there is no guarantee that you will be right side up if you fall.....is there?
  5. I will say this, there is NO benefit to leaving your stand early......whether or not you choose to shoot after legal hours is up to you.....and I highly doubt that you will have any problem with an ECO if you pop out of the woods an hour after the legal time, travel to and from your stand outside of legal shooting time has been going on forever, and they would have been having a field day at parking spots if this was the case. The last few years I have hunted at a National Wildlife Refuge, and they allow you out an hour ahead of time and allow you an hour after to check back in, and this has both Federal and State Officers working during these hunts.
  6. so it's been over a month since I last contacted him, he hasn't responded or been back on here as far as I can tell.....oh well.
  7. so you agree that what your Buddy did was a poor choice and a bit "neanderthalish"? and had nothing to do with the law?
  8. I would thing 15-20 grand in added value.....I base that on nothing other then what it would cost to go through the hassle of permits and cost to build something comparable.
  9. I doubt they can ever fix the access problem....they can make all the changes they want to the season and in the big picture those with the land access will make it work and other than being inconvenienced as to when they can harvest certain animals they probably aren't going to make huge increases in how many they harvest.......anyone with land at their disposal will just sit it out and wait for their time and in the end there will be no affect on the animals patterns and they will be there for the taking when that person decides to hunt.
  10. I'm gonna say no...........if you saw some of the tick infestation on some of the Long Island deer you would vomit, I've killed and eaten quite a few, I'd be very surprised if the majority didn't have Lyme disease.
  11. I don't know if it's even comparable, but I don't know many traditional archers who shoot light arrows to get more speed for hunting...just the opposite, heavier for more penetration............but I may be totally wrong on that comparison.
  12. make the doe tags good for the full year.....freezer low in July? no longer a problem. Wife's flowers getting eaten? problem solved.
  13. I hate paying anyone for stuff that I can do on my own, whether it's a $10 or $50 dollar savings, and it's not even the $ I worry about, it's about having it done correctly.....but I can't see the complaint about paying someone charging $20.00 to do the work you if that's the route some take
  14. pretty simple, they claim however much of a profit loss that they attribute to the damage created by the deer and they get a tax benefit......do you think they just have to swallow the amount of money they lose to deer damage, I think probably not.
  15. I know a few guys that increase the draw weight for hunting and drop it back down in the off season when they're more into a target shooting mode........I doubt there are many on here who would have any trouble jacking up the draw weight a few weeks before the season and would have little if any trouble making the minor adjustments in their shooting to be ready to hunt. that's what I would do anyway.
  16. why not just crank it up a few more pounds?......I don't see a need to shoot "dozens" of arrows at a time..........if you have been shooting a lot, the extra 3-5 pounds should be hardly noticeable.
  17. I've always got in before light and sit until dark.....but I do watch the time and have no reason or desire to shoot before or after legal time.
  18. that really has no bearing on the law, but more a case of someone taking a shot that they shouldn't have.
  19. I don't think the local Mom and Pop Auto repair shop do oil changes to make a ton of money, it's just something they do to keep their loyal customers happy...kinda like to gun shop that sells licenses, they make peanuts off of those sales but hope you coming to the store for that will create other sales..........much like the coleslaw and pickle that every diner puts on the plate, 90% of the people don't eat it and it probably costs the diner a few bucks in the long run, but if it makes a few happy and gets return business it was well worth the minor loss.
  20. this thread inspired me to change my oil........6 quarts of Pennzoil 5w-30 and a Fram Extra Guard oil Filter, $30.66 from Advance Auto Parts.
  21. not to mention they're absolute slobs.....my Dodge has a filter that is in the most ridiculous spot, they just pull it off and get oil everywhere that drips for a few days after........I only go when I'm pressed for time, maybe 2 times a year.
  22. glad that turned out well...............sometimes it's better to leave out some details.
  23. there's no doubt that those places are shady.....but does anyone honestly think that paying someone $15-$20 bucks to do it for you is outrageous? like I said earlier, I'n not crawling under someone else's car for less.
