so, you do what is considered by most to be the right thing, and kill the buck after dark.....which, as we all know is illegal, but we get past that because an animal was put out of its suffering asap, and we all agree that is the Noble thing to do.............really not a tough decision to live with afterwards. Fast forward to the next day and you realize the buck is eligible for Pope & Young, except for that one minor detail of it being killed illegally, what does one do with that decision??????

I chew Clorets on stand, one of the active ingredients in that gum is Chlorophyll, which if I'm not mistaken kills odors.......not sure if it's one of those guaranteed to work things, but I definitely put it into the "it can't hurt" category...much like some scent killer sprays.....That reminds me it's time to find and order some more of that gum.

tough call, I've tracked deer that if were inspected after being killed with a gun you would have found a wound that the deer would have fully recovered from if left alone......some deer don't need to be "put down" after the first shot, because they lucked out and dodged a fatal hit.

$30 bucks to hang a deer in a proper cooler for a week?.....that's a bargain in my book, I'd pay that in a heartbeat.

yep, I've already accepted the fact that if I shoot a deer with an arrow, there more then likely will be some suffering on the animals part.....

I'm willing to bet the Safe Act doesn't apply to them.......at least not Tribal land. -
Having second thoughts on the climber.......

give it time, you'll speed things up.......I actually pack the majority of my top layers and get dressed in the stand, you'll eventually get more comfortable. I carry bungee cords to put around the tree for by pack most of the time, there's other options other than putting screws in the tree. If I plan on hunting the same tree a few days in a row, the stand stays in the woods at the bottom of the tree at night. -
exactly! a group of 3-5 does would keep running until they were all killed or maybe 1 or 2 made it too safety........they were kept running all day by the amount of guys out pushing them around. What's the old saying?? "they were the best of times and the worst of times"....I'm pretty sure those days are where the term "orange army" came from.

guess none of you guys hunted the Catskills during the late 70's early 80's...........now, that was a war zone.

ThermaCell heated insoles

I just got back from hunting the past few days and trying out the heated insoles. First off, I suggest that you try them on inside of your intended hunting boot, I put them inside my leather hunting boots and they are a bit thicker than the originals so my boots were tight until I walked in them a bit to break them in......probably better suited for roomier boots with more air space, and I'm not sure how good they are as far as support for walking any great amount of time. OK,off to the "heating" test, I intentionally wore lighter socks than I normally would to get a better feel for their heating abilities. Temp's were around 20ish, so I got in stand and let my feet adjust to the temp and just begin to feel the cold and turned them on "high"....no question I could feel the warmth and my feet stayed comfortable and I sat for about 3 hours with them on "high", so as of now I'm happy with them......question is how well they will do when the temp's really dip, but I can't imagine them not helping to some degree......Oh and the remotes functioned properly. -
nope, tree is growing around it, been there through all seasons, as I Turkey and small game hunt the same area and scout it in the off season as well.....hasn't been used since I found it the first time. I was just wondering if there's an acceptable point when someone can remove it and dispose of it some how, I've considered maybe dropping it off at the local PD? but I think they would be less then thrilled to have garbage dropped off at their station. I't gonna be one of those things that someone finds 100 years from now and tries to figure out what it is.

there's a climbing stand that's been sitting at the bottom of a tree on some public land that I hunt....this is year 5 of it not being touched or used, at what point does it become garbage that I can throw away and clean up the woods?
-
yup...me too, absolutely unreal some of the crap that comes out of some people.
-
some things always work...others? not so much.
-
not crazy at all.....there's something special about using the old.
-
of course you can..at least that's what my Mom told me.

ThermaCell heated insoles
jjb4900 replied to gfdeputy2's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I don't think they're intended to produce a great amount of heat, just keep your feet from getting cold....if that makes sense. I think if you wait till ur feet are cold to turn them on, they will not produce enough heat to bring them back of to temp. -

yeah, I was torn after reading mostly less then satisfactory reviews, but figured why not........actually less then what I've spent over the years trying different boots and socks, so figured I'd give em a whirl. Biggest concern is how well they'll hold up after being "flexed" from walking. -

well, in 30+ years of deer hunting I've yet to do that......willing to take the chance for warmer feet and longer sits. I've wasted more money on worse things. -

I was just about to ask the same....charging mine up for the first try this weekend. -
exactly! it's like spraying air freshener in the bathroom after you destroyed it........lovely combination of Roses mixed with Sh*t.

yeah, I gave it up because of the hunter's half truth's and some of the attitudes I got when I couldn't or wouldn't go out......
