Nice start, I have to get mine out soon but right now is not a good time, my landlady of 30 years has cancer and is in her final days of life, kids and all are in from out of state and just not a good time to set up.
-
Does he want any more friends?
-
Nope, I prefer to hunt.
-
Got these in the mail today, they look even better than in the pictures he sent. The Hoot'n Stick is much larger than I thought it would be which I like.

We could all switch to the Mongolian method.
-
I have seen them bigger with proper choke tube yes. If you can hold yourself to that is fine, but if not you owe it to the turkey to check it. I do not shoot over 35-40 myself and would prefer under that to be honest. Sent from my S30U+ using Tapatalk

How is it shooting between 5 and 40? Don't forget to check all ranges.
-
I don't own any of his calls yet, but I have 4 of his 1 piece strikers and they are some of the best I have used and very well balanced.

I have over 100 calls now so I fully agree with this comment.

Listen, I know some that draw over 100lbs.it was a honest question. Sent from my S30U+ using Tapatalk

Sorry it took so long to reply, what kind of bow is 160lbs? You planning to go to Africa? They only require 90lbs. the last I knew.
-
Congrats on the new gun.
-
Trust me, it was much more fun out of a blind, even if I never did get one I liked it outside of a blind much more.
-
I know many people that think you are not a real turkey hunter if you use decoys, blinds, TSS, Hevi-13 or whatever it is called or anything other than lead. I am not one of them, I would just like to see if I can get back out of the blind and hunt them the way I used to before my last car accident, I really do miss watching everything come to life around you, you lose all that in a blind.
-
I would bet they were either Avian decoys or Dave Smith Decoys and those that have them swear by them. I know people that have made decoys out of an old bleach bottle, painter it black and put a piece of fabric of the right colors on it and had success. I know of somebody that did the same and added a old fan from a jake. Decoys really are not necessary though, I only put mine out twice last year, maybe 3 times.

A scratch box and wingerbone were my first costume calls.

They no longer make it.

David Halloran Turkey Calls Write Up in Outdoor News
Sir-diealot replied to Sir-diealot's topic in Turkey Hunting
I have seen that page before. Another is Tim Fralick, I have one of his Mighty Hens https://www.facebook.com/1698767543715552/videos/1090394928095195 -
Saw one doing the same today, but of course I did not have the camera with me.
-
Sounds a lot like my setup except the cantilever on my 11-87 came with the the gun as did a rifled barrel. Is your scope also the Turkey-Plex?
-
The new Scratch Box from Ernie Fetters that came with 2 strikers and Tulipwood Trumpet, tried to add them to my above comment but it would not allow me to.
-
My understanding is that double slate will give you a more mellow sound whereas glass should make it higher pitched but if you listen to my call above it does not sound very high pitched at all with a glass soundboard. I put together some strikers as well, but they were also in kit form, just picked the woods and then glued them together.
-
Lot of call makers best calls are made of walnut, good choice. What are you going to use for a sound board?

Small little article on call maker David Halloran in this months New York Outdoor News, I wish it had been more in depth than it was, but nice to see him getting some publicity. I do not have any of his calls but I do have 4 of his 1 piece strikers, my favorite being the Ipe. I intend to order more from him as well. Anyone here own any of his products? I may pick up his Crystal Mistress, I hear a lot of good about that one and his Twisted Sister. I hang on another site dedicated to turkey hunting and he is very well thought of, even by many of the guys down South. Here is a link to his sight if anybody is interested. https://davidhalloranturkeycalls.com/
