  1. One of my most productive shed hunting spots is in windmill land. I don't know what it was like before the turbines, but it seems to hold plenty of game species now with little to no affect to the local deer and turks.
  2. Dang, glad he's alright. What round did he get hit with if you don't mind my asking?
  3. Lol- I was about to slit my own throat when I see where this is going.
  4. LMBO..., that's ex-wife now! I always had a hard time telling the difference between her and her sister! I got a thing for piggy tails, lol
  5. I snatched this one up bare handed about 10yrs ago right along the Erie/Catt county line, lol Only took about 4 cans of courage.
  6. Well ya better find yourself another spot....you can't kill deer in a place like that without a helicopter, a parachute, and a short bungie chord, lol!
  7. No worries Biz- my appologies for getting my panties in a bunch. I only asked a rather simple question of getting a gun up, and instead get schooled in how to effectively hunt my area. That's when I just take the liberty to post some pics and let the post spiral where it will from there, lol. Staying on topic saves everyone a lot of time reading stuff that has nothing to do with the title...including the original poster. Get my drift?
  8. Steve, that makes all kind of sence to me and I do agree it would make some reconsider why they're truely out there. That would deffinitely seperate the hunters from the target shooters(which I personaly feel many have become). Even though at bow close ranges we as bowhunters feel so close to our quarry, there is still so much seperation from the way nature intended a kill to happen. Unfortunately I like to see everyone enjoy their time afield as much as possible so I couldn't wish this to happen to everyone to gauge where they're at with their own hunts or mental preparedness.
  9. Yes, I'm glad nobody here has actually enjoyed this or acted like a barbarian in their descriptions. I left a lot out myself. I guess if it didn't still bother me to some extent, I wouldn't have brought it back up. It sticks with ya for a while, especially when you have such a deep respect for these animals as we all do.
  10. Just a guess here, but I'd assume you might use something like that if you cape your trophy in the field and are packing out the head.
  11. 1- What were the circumstances that led to this being your first/last resort? Had to put 2 down using this method. One was hit by a car and all I had besides a tire iron was my 4" belt knife. The 2'nd was a hunting situation with a high back hit. The deer had dropped in it's tracks. After a 1/2 hr to get down from my stand I walked over to see him raise his head and begin trying to crawl off on his front elbows. I hadn't reloaded the ML and left my extra loads 100yds back in my stand pouch. 2- How effective was it..how long before the deer expired? For me, not nearly as fast and painless as I'd expected. My best estimation after sawing through the thick coat before giving up and plunging the blade as deep as I could....probably around 3-4 minutes of watching him blow bubbles out the new blowhole. 3- How 'bout tecnique- any do's or donts? My second time- grabbed the buck by the horns and pulled his head back. Slid my blade up under the hair and sliced with all my might in one fluid swipe. I had a very new, very sharp Kershaw blade but it has a flat tip on it(by design) so plunging into the deer was not an option. 4- What was the deers reaction? Both deer threw their heads back and let out a God awefull bawl over and over. I could hear them suffocating/drowning with every gurgle.I could see the fear in their eyes. Just a terrible experience all the way around. 5- How did you feel afterwards? Guess I felt releived when it was finaly over but overall, felt horrible it came to that. Deffinately will try to be better prepared in the future, but knowing beforehand what to expect, I think I'm thankfull to have been able to block my emotions and do what needed to be done without hesitation.
  12. Wondering if any of you guys have ever had to do this. Few questions for those who have. 1- What were the circumstances that led to this being your first/last resort? 2- How effective was it..how long before the deer expired? 3- How 'bout tecnique- any do's or donts? 4- What was the deers reaction? 5- How did you feel afterwards? I'll post my experience later.
  13. Too bad. Expect to find quite a few like that while shed hunting. These years with no tracking snow usually turn up a few unrecovered bucks from the season. Glad you found a fitting resting place for him.
  14. That'll work, nice buck- congrats!

Heck, you're right down the road from me....we probably hunt the same bucks.
  16. Ya know, the positioning of those stiff legs leads me to believe he's been laying around a while and never hung. ...maybe scooped up from the shoulder of the road and got a kill tag?
  17. I better add a teaser pic here, lol. First buck I got since the gun opener. Hope he survives the holiday weekend and sticks around for the late season. I had one encounter with this guy durring archery but that's been it.

In 9-H I saw hard chasing from Nov 6'th-10'th then it shut right off.
  19. If anyone's interested, I recently started a new trail cam gallery at my pbase site with the bucks I've caught over the last 2 years. I update it as soon as they come in but things have gotten pretty slow since gun season started. Not trying to link anyone away from this site, just the easiest way for me to share them all. Anyhow, thanks in advance to those who check them out! http://www.pbase.com/wooly/trail_cam_pics
  20. I don't know....if I ever accidently slipped out of my stand in this tree I'd probably just hang there like a piece of laundry out to dry. I always make sure my harness is strapped to whatever tree my climber is attached to. I think trying to stay connected in some situations may make the climb more dangerous than it needs to be.
  21. Man, what a shame. Think you're right in ruling out thieves and addicts...they most likely would have taken the rest as well to sell later. What's most disturbing is how bold they were to spend so much time ransacking the truck. I'd be cautious with the loss of the wallet, assuming drivers licence and home address inside. Pretty obvious that these wackos aren't thinking clearly in the first place may just be dumb enough to go for a big heist back at the ranch to scoop up any hunting gear..especially weapons.
  22. Good post Skillet! You don't need to be a religious fanatic to feel that spiritual connection you mention. To tell you the truth, it wasn't long ago that religion and God were not very high on my list of priorities. I just never realy felt any hands on experiences I could relate to up to that point. Over the past 4-5yrs, I've spent an unusualy abnormal amount of time in the woods through every season due to my lack of employment and loss of many of the things that meant the most to me. I've learned a great deal about myself, my environment, and my God durring this time. Sometimes the little things aren't quite so apparent so we're forced to slow down and look closer. When you take the time to take it all in, you begin to put the pieces together for yourself.. and understand the whole grande scheme of things a little better. The outdoors lifestyle sure is some good medicine for the mind, body, and soul! Enjoy it to the fullest and be thankful you're there to enjoy it every chance you get!
  23. Thanks guys! Hope you all enjoy every hunt as if it's your last. Hunt on your terms, and don't feel like you need to justify shooting any deer you desire to anybody else. It's your hunt...you write the ending you see fit! Good luck to everyone still holding a tag!
  24. I figure if this little guy stands any chance of winning it all, he better come with one hell of a story...so here it goes. I headed out to my stand before early light when I ran into a little old blind lady trying to cross the road in the dark. I assisted her and was on my way. ...down the trail I went when I noticed a strange golden berry in the underbrush. I picked it, and mixed it with bubblegum juice, pine sap, and a Tim Hortons "triple triple". Unknown to me at the time, I had just found a cure for cancer. As I rushed the new cure to the clinic, I came across 6 nuns who were trapped in a flaming wreck on Interstate 90. After I hauled the first 5 out, we joined hands in prayer before I ran into the wreckage to save the last in a knick of time before their Pinto exploded. Feeling pretty pooped and about to forget about any serious hunting at this point, I noticed an orphaned, 3 legged kitten with no tail in a paper bag on the shoulder of the road. Looked pretty dehydrated and malnurished, so I ran to the store to get it some milk and Tender Vittles to lift its spirits. While at the counter cashing out, three Arabs, 2 black guys, and 4 Mexicans were trying to hold up the mom and pop deli. I remebered some jujitsu crap I saw in an old Steven Segal flick and managed to get the situation under control before the authorities could arrive. The owner of the deli graciously handed me a bag of crisp $1000 bills as a reward but they were slowing me down. I quickly passed it off to a bag lady that I passed by outside that looked to be in desperate need of some good eats and warm clothing before the cold weather rolled in. I took a shortcut through the dark alley around back where I noticed a gang of bikers beating up a homeless prostitute that was trying to pay her kids way through daycare for the weekend while she worked. We hopped on one of the Hawgs with a sidecar and I tipped the others like Dominoes. I slipped her off to the shelter where these thugs wouldn't find her. It turned out to be a great day in the stand and at 4:30pm I decided to unleash some of my penned up aggression from the day on this spiker! Thanks for tagging along on my very memorable hunt that I wont forget anytime soon!
  25. Lol- that's the most rediculous thing I've ever heard! Your ground pounding tactics are welcome here...probably bump quite a few to me without even knowing it!
