How big is the boy? Is .22 absolutely necessary? Many of the Gamos available in .22 also come in .177 and have significantly less cocking effort. As far as legality: an air rifle of .17 caliber or larger which expels a projectile by means of compressed air and exceeds 600fps muzzle velocity shall be considered a gun and is legal to take any game which is legal to take with a rimfire rifle. A .177 is more than enough to knock a squirrel or a cottontail on it's ass at 20 yds.

An Arizona gun dealer has publicly declared he will not do business with Obama voters. http://www.thegunmag.com/arizona-gun-dealer-refuses-business-from-obama-voters/ How he proposes to fully enforce his policy I have no idea. One could just say "Nope, I didn't vote for him" and done. Whatever. His choice.

Is this app available for android? How much? I came up with a larger number, but of course it was a "perfect world calculation" which did not include Cd or Bc, so it yielded a theoretical maximum range without outside forces exerted on the projectile.

Tried to get DEC -- Stony Brook, no one. I didn't have the list of Brookhaven ECOs with me. What irks me more than the deer frankly, is the bullethole in it. Houses border Fireplace Neck on 3 sides. What if the retard had missed?
-
Was over at Fireplace Neck today. Definitely some damage there. Two big blowdowns across the main road/trail. Somebody I guess took advantage of the storm. There's a poached deer right in the damn parking lot. Took the head, backstraps, most of the meat, and just left the whole carcass sitting just behind the rail of the parking lot.

..And I figured I might as well put it here too. I know a lot of people don't eat squirrel, and just shoot them as a pest. Personally, I think they're pretty tasty. So here's a recipe for roasting them with an herb marinade. Of course the ratios can be adjusted in proportion for more or less, but I think this is the smallest you should go. Roast squirrel a la Felonious Makes 2 or 3 roast tree rat 1 - 2 medium cloves of garlic, chopped fine 1 large onion 1 large carrot 2 stalks celery 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1/4 teaspoon rosemary 1/4 teaspoon thyme 1/4 teaspoon sage 1/2 cup olive oil Whole dried herbs preferably, pre-ground will do. Grind salt and spices very fine. Add ground spices to chopped garlic and mix. Add enough of the olive oil to the spices and mix until a rough paste forms. Smear the seasoning paste inside and outside the squirrels, making sure to get it into all the nooks and crannies of the critter. Cover with plastic wrap and allow to marinate in the fridge at least 6 hours, overnight if possible. Peel onion and carrot, Chop the veggies small to medium, Preheat a cast iron pan in a moderate (350 - 375F) oven. Add any remaining seasoning paste to the olive oil and toss veggies in seasoned oil. Add veggies to preheated pan, they should sizzle when they hit the pan. Stir veggies until sizzling subsides, add marinated squirrels on top of veggies, place pan back in oven. Roast appx 25 minutes, or until desired doneness. I don't eat them any less than medium well. Divide roasted root veggies among plates, add one roasted critter per plate, serve with a nice crusty French or Italian bread. I like a nice wheat beer with this dish myself. Quote MultiQuote

Does anyone know if any of the lands are open yet? That link at the top of the page now has a very abridged list of parks closed now. I was hoping to head out to Westhampton maybe tomorrow.

I realized you were probably looking for a recipe. So, here's an easy one that's chock full of flavorific love. Just to interject, the way in which the CPI is currently calculated is complete bullshit. Staple items like FOOD AND ENERGY are not included in the consumer common basket. Now I don't know about you, but I know that aside from my mortgage, feeding my family and heating my home are a pretty sizeable portion of my non-discretionary spending budget. Also, they represent an ever growing portion thereof. Notice the price of food going up, but the net weight or volume of the product purchased going down? That's an inflationary effect, I'm sure you'll agree. However, it's not calculated as part of the CPI, ergo the calculated inflation rate is artificially low. Sorry, but you can take that "inflation is less than 3%" bullshit and put it where it belongs. Out back in the manure pile. -

Once you get past the known fire hazards and the fact that one day that 1200lb toxic battery has to be disposed of and replaced (for true electrics) causing more potential "environmental harm" than every car on the planet idling next to a hot dog truck simultaneously, electric cars are great for the environment and very practical. -
UPDATE: At the behest of the BATFU Stratasys Inc. has revoked Defense Distributed's lease for their 3D printer. Regardless of the fact that Defense Distributed and it's founder Cody Wilson have violated no laws, the BATFU has requested that Stratasys reclaim their device until Defense Distributed acquires a firearms manufacturers license. The fact that a manufacturers license applies only to those who manufacture firearms for commercial sales represents a nigh insurmountable obstacle for Defense Distributed. Namely, since they have no intention of ever selling any firearms, they do not qualify for the manufacturers license. Rumor has it that the BATFU is considering "investigating" Defense Distributed for possible violations of the law. Just another day in the "land of the free."

And rightly so. I'm simply saying that these events aren't new. But with the invention and profligacy of instantaneous mass media, the idea of them is drilled into us more often. This makes things seem like they either didn't happen before - the case of carjacking, the word itself was invented in the 90's, but the crime itself, hijacking a car, has existed since cars have - or occur more often. The idea that gang violence is worse now than before, I'd like to see that substantiated, because I personally think that's a load of donkey dust. That of course gets into other topics, like the utterly and completely failed concept of the war on drugs. The only difference between prohibition and the war on drugs is that the overwhelming majority of the violence instigated and caused by the black market for recreational pharmaceuticals has caused is not domestic. Black markets only ever cause more crime. If you outlaw a substance, you do nothing to curtail demand, you have only affected supply. Now the supply is in the hands of illegal entities like drug cartels, who since they already operate outside of the law, the administration and enforcement policies will also be outside the law. [insert Mexican drug cartel chainsaw beheading video here] End the war on drugs, end the violence. It took us about a decade to realize that the first time. But now, we're 40 years out and still doing the same stupid shit and expecting different results. Meanwhile, literally millions of lives have been ruined with felony convictions over substances, whether natural or engineered, which the consumption of has no victim. The same can be said with gun laws. No gun law will stop a felon determined to get his hands on a gun. They will only stop someone who has no intention of breaking the law again. In other words, it only keeps firearms from those who have been rehabilitated. So, some guy in Texas who was sentenced to 5 years because he had a bag of marijuana for personal consumption now has no means of defending himself against the criminal who doesn't care if he breaks the law, and owns a gun. There's no sense behind it at all. If a person is too dangerous to own a gun, they're too dangerous to be out of prison. If they are out of prison, they have every right to own and use the greatest tool available to them for self defense. knee-jerk reactionary laws, like drug laws, gun laws, and morally judgmental laws like laws against prostitution are ineffective, and unConstitutional.
