  1. That's what I was thinking. When I misunderstood it I was like this guy can't be serious.
  2. I misunderstood when I read the post I thought you burned the hair off before skinning I now realize you are only burning the left over hair after skinning. That wouldn't be to bad. With the gulf all method the only place there is usually hair left is on the neck roast where make the initial cuts. I might have to try the torch method in the future to clean up the neck roast.
  3. This is basically the way I was originally taught to skin a deer not only is it faster but it leaves a lot less fur on the meat that you have to pick off and clean off during the butchering process. we would hang the deer from a beam specifically installed for this purpose instead of laying it on the ground.
  4. This thread was originally started to only have official updates on the progress of getting the safe act thrown out. There really hasn't been much progress our only hope is wait for the courts decisions and come out with big numbers at the next election. I know an awful lot of people who are still very p!ssed about the safe act and even more people who dislike Cuomo in general. In my area our representatives voted against the safe act and we can't really vote against other peoples representatives so most people are planning on voting against Cuomo and hoping he signed his resignation papers when he pushed the safe act through. The most we can do is inform people of what the safe act actually is and help them become informed voters.
  5. Glad I'm not alone. Some years I just feel like what am I doing wrong that I don't see the deer that everyone else is seeing and I have to remind myself it isn't all me we don't have the population that other parts of the state have.
  6. Out of all the negatives I listed the biggest negative is that King Cuomo is pushing for it. Like everything else he is involved in in one way or another it is going to come back and bite the citizens of this state. I was not claiming that my community is comparable to the gangster era 20's or that we are flooded with hookers, although I do live right next to the Canadian Border where smuggling drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and people happens on a daily basis and a casino makes it quite convenient to launder money. I was just trying to point out some of the negative things that come along with the casinos and just like Detroit casinos are not going to save NYS.
  7. Didn't Detroit just file for bankruptcy? Also Cuomo makes it sound like nothing but good can come from casinos. People need to be aware of the negative effects casinos have on a community. Living not far from an Indian casino I have seen people lose their jobs, family, and everything they own do to gambling addictions. Theft in the area has increased not only because of the casinos but I have heard of many cases of people stealing money from work, friends, relatives thinking they could win and pay it back just to be fired or arrested because people are fed up with dealing with their addiction. Some of these people I had known in the past and never thought would have resorted to that. Casinos also make it quite convenient for the bigger crime rings in the area to launder their money.
  8. I consider myself a meat hunter. I could care less what anyone thinks about the deer I choose to shoot. I love venison and put whatever I can in the freezer. All the deer I have taken with the exception of my first were 1.5 years old. My first was that years fawn and I took it in late black powder and was the first deer I had seen all year. Ever since then I have passed many fawns . I consider all the deer I have taken to be trophies to me I busted my @ss every year to prepare for the season and spend hours upon hours on stand and don't get a deer every year. If someone gets a deer I am happy for them it doesn't matter if it is a doe, spike or 10 point if they did it legally they put work in to get it. In my area you can go weeks without seeing anything. I went to my future brother inlaws camp the other day and saw a doe 2 fawns and atleast a 6 point possibly an 8 point buck chasing them I could have taken the doe or the buck but they were on someone else's property. I was more happy to finally see something while hunting since October 1st. When I do shoot a deer I am happy as can be it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks and I enjoy every bite of it.
  9. Tuesday evening I went out for and evening sit and had a momma and 2 fawns come out in a field behind me (not property I can hunt) they played around for 20-30 minutes and then ran from one end of the field to the other and stopped for about a minute and then took off into the woods out of no where a decent buck runs in from the direction they came from and stops dead where they were standing and stood there for about 30 seconds sniffing and followed the does path into the woods.
  10. I spent all of northern bow season doing afternoon sits every time I planned on going in for morning sits something would come up and I couldn't make it. The majority of my trail cam activity is between 7am and 8 am. Tomorrow morning I plan on going out with the smoke pole and seeing if I can connect with one. If nothing else it will be nice to see the woods come alive for the first time this year.
  11. I live in 5A and just started hunting in 5A after spending most of my time in 6F and 6A for a few years.
  12. I couldn't agree more with gman. The Japanese knotweed is nasty stuff. I don't see anywhere on my property that would have an erosion problem yet I have been trying to kill the stuff since 2007 and still Have had no luck.
  13. I have Japanese knotweed(similar to bamboo) in my yard. I have tried and tried to get rid of it. It grows 8-10" tall and spreads every year. While reading up on ways to get rid of it I learned that at one point it was used to prevent erosion. The root system spreads like wildfire and it will grow just about anywhere. The only problem with it is it is d@mn near impossible to get rid of. Where you would get seed for it I don't know but I do know that if you accidentally transplant one little piece root it start a whole new patch.
  14. When I took my bow course the instructors talked about rabbit and squirrel hunting with their bows. The two things they emphasized for small game hunting were you have to be very accurate and use a broad head designed for small game hunting.
  15. I personally like the looks of the cheaper signs a little better and find they make it easier to get the point across to someone traveling 60 mph by my house. It isn't so much the cheaper aspect that appeals to me I would gladly donate $20 to scope.
  16. Not trying to start anything just asking a legitimate question but how are the scope signs nicer. Other than a portion goes to donations to scope?
  17. Absolutely nothing!!! Went out this morning and saw nothing. Took a break and went and played with the muzzleloader and rifle at the range for a bit. Went back out in a different area with my uncle and cousin and once again didn't see anything.
  18. It was an old savage 110e in .243 win with a bushnell 3-9x40 with 100gr. Remington core lokts but my father asked for it back because he might start hunting again. So I bought a Browning xbolt micro hunter 7mm-08 with a Nikon prostaff 3-9x40 with 140gr. Federal fusions that I am hoping is as reliable and lethal as that old savage.
  19. I would go with the tractor. My father bought an older utv for a really good price 2 years ago. Last year he bought a brand new John deere compact tractor and has watched Craigslist for attachments and has gained quite a few for good prices. He gets a lot more use out of his tractor. The utv is basically reserved for berry picking trips and hauling tools and other things from the house to work locations or areas for family gatherings on their property. The tractor is a work horse and is used for a little bit of everything.
  20. I was just reading an article that the same group that started the efforts to recall are now pushing for full repeal and yesterday there was an article stating that their governor isn't as positive about the gun laws as he was before the recall. Maybe their representatives might approve an repeal now that they are afraid of losing there jobs.
  21. I normally only take one if I am lucky. This year I'm hoping for 2 and turn all of one (except the back straps) into jerky. But if the opportunity arises I have more tags
  22. I had a Nikon prostaff 3 that was great I bought it for $150 on sale last year. It burned in my garage fire and I replaced it with the Simmons for $109 this year. It seems to have accurate readings and just as easy to operate as the Nikon.
