  1. I agree that we need to the same but we have to wait until next November to do it. Like everything else in NY we are NOT ALLOWED to kick them out early.
  2. when I was a kid and it was still legal to feed deer part of my fathers job was feeding the deer daily during the winter I have literally pet 12 points. but that isn't really fair considering we were feeding 300+ deer some days. For deer that weren't being fed I have had a six point walk up to about 3 yards while I was on a smoke break at work in the village of Norwood. while hunting or hiking I have had bucks within 10 yards.
  3. NY really needs to adopt a recall policy maybe then our representatives would listen to the constituents instead of bowing to the governor.
  4. I have a traditions buck hunter that sounds similar to the CVA hunter. It is a pain to break down for cleaning. If it isn't kept very clean the nipple clogs in no time, The bolt will stick causing the gun not to fire. I could also never get accuracy I felt acceptable out of it clean or not (couldn't even keep the groups on the target). I bought a CVA wolf a couple years ago. It is simple to break down and clean, I have yet to have any malfunctions, and it will keep groups within a 3" circle with little effort from me and print cloverleafs on the target if do my part.
  5. http://m.pressrepublican.com/pr/pm_105446/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=WB4aEokB According to Cuomo the safe act would not effect hunters and sportsman. Now we all knew that was a bold face lie but here is even more proof. The safe act is taking a away previously public hunting lands from gun hunters.
  6. I don't know if you have to be worried about thieves but if it weren't for thieves it is never to early to be set up. If you don't have to worry about people stealing your gear the earlier the better.
  7. Last year one of the heads of the Ogdensburg's bridge and port authority was picked up shooting at one of the DEC's decoys. Never heard how that one turned out.
  8. Nope it is completely legal as long as there are no firearms or bow in the vehicle( or they are taken down properly to DEC's definition) and you are 500 feet away from a house.
  9. My uncle was telling me that him and one of his friends were spotlighting near their camp in St. Lawrence County. They put the light on one buck and were surrounded by law enforcement within a minute. There were no houses around no firearms in the vehicle everything was completely legal they were let go with an apology.
  10. They actually have a combo class now where you can take them both at the same time.
  11. I am just getting into fly fishing myself. My parent just built a house on the salmon river in Malone and we have been having no luck catching them with spinning gear for the last couple year and have seen the fly fisherman pull out quite a few so we switched our technique. My father had caught a couple trout but I haven't had any luck yet.
  12. I have my bow maxed out at 48 lbs. at some point in the future I would like to upgrade to something I can adjust up to 60lbs.
  13. Well my honey do list should be done within the next week to week and a half. My wife and daughter are leaving for Missouri for 2weeks today. So I am renovating the bathroom and painting my daughters bedroom while they are gone. I had a head start though I installed the new tub last week so the hardest part is done.
  14. I have never had infection from gutting Or butchering a deer. I do have an uncle that is allergic to deer fur. He has hunted all of his life and had just gained the allergy within the last 5-10 years. If he touches the fur his eyes start to water and get itchy, his hands swell and itch and begins to get hives all over and becomes itchy. 3 years ago he wore gloves to drag his dear out he said it helped a little because only his eyes began to water but a few days later he picked the gloves up off the seat of his truck and instantly his hands began to swell and itch.
  15. I use a GPS on my phone to keep track of my cams. The layout or the property really decides how many cams is enough. I have hunted a 15 acre parcel that 2 cams was over doing it. I also hunt a property that is about 22 acres that has 50-100 apple trees, 2 funnels, a brook, a couple heavily used runways, a thick covered bedding area, and about a 6 acre meadow that if I had the cams I would have about 5 or 6 cams going.
  16. Well I got to work today after posting my response to this and It just so happens our vacation bid had made it to me and I took November 5 - November 20th. I hope those two weeks are productive for me again this year.
  17. I have always been told for the rut second week of November. My father always took off the week of Veterans Day when he hunted and never came home empty handed I shot my first rut buck last year on November 14. I Find whenever you have a vacation during hunting your chances of Bagging one are increased because you have more time to spend hunting and the more time you spend hunting the better your chances rut or no rut.
  18. I misread it I thought it said 7 y.o. Son. Sorry he might be old enough to legally hunt in NY
  19. The dmp's are transferrable so someone could give you one if they had one available but your son isn't old enough to legally hunt in NY.
  20. Just ordered a MP6 Black to replace the 2011 trophy cam I lost. I cant wait to see how it compares.
  21. If you are effected by it avoid it if you can't avoid it prepare to be miserable. I know a guy that gets it really bad and has finally decided his best bet is to avoid it. Every time he gets it it is a trip to the doctors and high doses of antibiotics and steroids.<br />Me personally I can roll around in it and it doesn't effect me whatsoever.
  22. I received a wgi cam as a a gift. It was my first cam. It worked great for a couple weeks then it started acting up. I would have to replace the batteries in it every couple days with it saying it had a full battery or it wouldn't take pics or the pics would just be a black image.<br /><br />I upgraded to a bushnell trophy cam and was spoiled. It did everything it was supposed to and had an excellent battery life. I lost my trophy cam in a garage fire we had in may and I still have the wgi cam it's more frustration than what it is worth. I will not be using a trail cam this year unless I buy a new one and if I do it will not be a wgi.
  23. I wear a beard all year. I trim it about once a month. I shave it off every couple years and the wife nags me about it because she prefers the beard.
  24. My wife's uncle was saying he saw triplets the other day. I was telling him while it is possible a doe will also take on another fawn that lost its mother if it is capable. Still cool to see 3 fawns together. I have twins in sporting their slots that visit me in the parking lot at work almost on a daily basis. I love seeing them. Although I haven't seen mama in weeks kind of worries me.
