  1. I was at gander mountain in Plattsburgh today. Shelves were packed with everything but .22lr
  2. It is part of the deer river. So far I have caught small mouth bass, perch, bullhead. It is also supposed to have trout, northern pike, and a little down stream in deeper parts it has walleye, and musky. The water was really low last year so the majority of what we caught were smallmouth and bullhead. Knock on wood the only problem with security was a few years ago before we bought it someone broke in and didn't take anything but left a bunch of empty beer cans. My guess was local teenagers. My wife's aunt lives about 500 ft from our camp and you have to drive by her house to get there she normally keeps a pretty good eye out. Her neighbor is also a state trooper which also helps. Half of the people that live on the road leading to the dirt road our camp is on are related to my wife and if they aren't related they know the family pretty well. It is still a small community that everyone knows one another. I actually know more people around our camp than I do around our actual house. It is in a beautiful area and it is actually only about 20 minutes from home.
  3. 22lr has become near impossible to find so they are going to charge ridiculous prices because someone will just have to have it. luckily I have a good little stock of .22lr to use in any of my .22s. depending on the quality of the ammo those prices would actually be low for some of the top of the line match ammo but it was probably low quality ammo that normally sells for $18-$25 a brick. the most I ever spent on a brick was about $50 and that was for a decent match ammo that allows me to average 1/4" groups in a custom target rifle I built.
  4. I haven't hunted their yet, tagged out the day before I was was gonna head over there this year. It isn't much but it works!!! decent fishing .12'x20' 1.6 acres. about 1500 feet from 22,000 acres of state land. had it insulated with spray foam insulation and tin roof put on this summer. my 3 year old has been begging to go stay there all winter!!! it's wired for a generator. has a gas stove and am currently using a ventless gas heater for heat. It was set up with a wood stove before we bought it but the previous owner (my wifes aunt) gave the stove and chimney to my wifes grandfather. It has a futon that pulls out to a full bed that actually isn't uncomfortable. and it also has a small loft with a full mattress and boxspring. I want to replace the futon with bunk beds with a full futon on bottom and twin on top just for a little bit more sleeping area.
  5. I don't see it happening in my lifetime either but I can dream can't I?
  6. I wouldn't go anywhere they aren't gonna get off that easy. I LOVE THIS STATE!!!! All of the problems with this state have been created in Albany as a result of ideas that mostly come from NYC. The best idea I ever heard was make NYC its own state and let us have our state back!!! Really, think about we have beautiful landscape, amazing wildlife, excellent waterways. you get used to the snow, it doesn't get to hot in the summer, we don't really get wiped out by hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes. If it weren't for all the idiotic political decisions that have created the unfriendly business environment, high taxes, extreme laws and the list goes on this would probably be the greatest state in America. I'll give you that it is nice to go other places for vacation but I always want to come back to NY.
  7. The LGS had one in .25 for about a year for $150. No one wanted anything to do with it until about a month ago now basically his entire stock is gone and that was one of the first ones to go. I thought about picking it up just to plink with but it was gone by the time I got my pistol permit.
  8. yes It is I could not use my original account to use the site via tapatalk because I originally set up through facebook so I set up a second account to see if I would be able to use the sight through tapatalk without being registered through facebook. within minutes if setting up the new account I contacted burmjohn to see if it would be possible to merge the 2 accounts so I wouldnt lose my post count of any other information. burmjohn had it handled within a couple hours he did great. that being said I believe if people started making multiple accounts the mods here would figure it out real fast and crack down on it.
  9. "the President of the United States is you know our boss." Actually we are his boss!!
  10. Yes that was with the magazine with the extended grip inserted and trying all 3 back straps. It just wasn't comfortable for me. It could just be my large hands. I am not trying to steer you away from it at all, go hold one it might be perfect for you. It would be a perfect ccw for many people.
  11. Also they are apparently going to try and encourage people to start their recertification a year early to try and spread them out throughout the year. I say everyone wait until the last possible minute to recert to overwhelm them every five years as a reminder that we are not happy about what they have done to us.
  12. So from what I have read the pistol permit recertification will just be making sure all of your information is up to date and will start out free. It has also been stated that if they find your info isn't up to date at the time of your recertification your permit will be revoked. And there is nothing that states it will continue to be free. The "assault weapons" registration/ recertification is basically setup the same way. They are trying to put the whole process on the county clerks of the state and the county clerks are less than impressed with them adding unfunded mandates on top of the ones they already have.
  13. I couldn't agree more. I would suggest researching and holding as many pistols as possible before making your final decision. What is right for one isn't always right for everyone. Read reviews from owners and media sources find everything that seems to be reliable and has the features that you are looking for. Once you narrow it down to a few models go to a gun shop and hold them all and see what seems to feel the most natural in your hands. The xd40 and the m&p40 are both good decisions it is all based on your personal preference.
  14. I did about 6 months of research while waiting for my permit and had decided on the m&p40c or the m&p40. I went to buy with the intentions of getting the compact but I have fairly large hands and my ring finger and pinky wouldn't fit on the grip so I went with the full size. I also fondled a XD40 and a sig p250 and the m&p seemed to fit more naturally than anything. I have shot a few glocks and rugers in the past and I have no regrets on my decision. If I had smaller hands I think the compact would be in my future also. Right now I am researching .357's and .44's as a follow up gun while hunting.
  15. I just bought a M&P 40 last week. It felt the best it my hands. I put 50 rounds through it the day after I bought it with out a single malfunction. I haven't had a chance to go back out to shoot it but I an hoping to go out tomorrow and put a couple hundred rounds of various ammo through it. Mine did not come with the thumb safety so that is not an issue for me. As for the trigger I had read before I bought it that some people didn't like the hinged trigger I haven't really noticed anything negative about it while dry firing or getting used to it. Last week i went back and forth between firing my 1911, colt woodsman, and the M&P 40 and found the trigger to be more than acceptable on the M&P. So far I absolutely love. If get back out tomorrow I will update my review with my experience.
  16. Ted was actually much more calm than I would have expected. which is a good thing. Alex Jones seemed like a lunatic and did not represent us well. I always thought Ted wasn't the best person to represent us but at least he is being level headed and stating facts.
  17. Yeah it was supposed to have clips of Wayne Lapierre "supporting background checks" from years ago. Basically clips taken out of context propaganda. I didn't see it but was waiting to see how much bull sh!t Bloomberg payed to spread.
  18. If no link someone should at least bump it so those of us on cell phones can find it easier. If not I will just wait until I get home. Lol
  19. The safe act should not effect weather or not you get your permit. It should only effect what you can actually buy to have registered on your permit. Also I believe all of your paid fees are non refundable. I would contact your county clerk's office and inquire about the status of your permit stating how long it has been. That is what I did a few weeks ago and was informed that it had been approved and it was overlooked and they forgot to mail me my approval letter.
  20. We need to vote out as many people responsible for this as possible.Cuomo needs to be voted out in 2014 most of all. Let them see how much the safe act helped his run for the presidency and be an example of what happens when you strip people of their rights with shady tactics. This mans biggest campaign while running for governor was he was going to end the corruption in Albany he was going to end all the closed door deals. All he has done since he took office was flaunt the fact that he will do whatever he wants however he wants. He started by blaming public workers for the problems with this state. Now he is blaming law abiding gun owners for the problems in this state. He will always blame the states problems on the citizens of this state. Our problems will continue to go unsolved and he will never admit that he and the rest of Albany are to blame.
  21. From the research I have done there is no state or federal law on quantity of ammo or the way it is stored. There are certain localities that limit this in their fire code. They are more worried about black powder than they are loaded rounds. Loaded rounds not under pressure don't react the same as they do in a gun under pressure.
  22. What are you looking for for the .40??? Just wondering sounds tempting even though I am not going to be in the capital district anytime soon.
  23. Anything labeled for military and law enforcement use was illegal wether they were preban or not. That's what screwed him under the old law you wanted to do your research on preban magazine before possessing one.
  24. I was in gander mountain in plattsburgh on Tuesday to buy a m&p40 and their shelves weren't as bare as I thought they were going to be. No .223 very small supply of .22lr but seemed to have quite a bit of everything else. They were mostly sold out of whatever was cheapest in each caliber but nothing like the local gun shop that a month ago about 100 pistols in stock and now only have about 10 and very low stock on ammo. I am acctually kicking myself for only buying 100 rounds of 40 s&w
