Thanks Mike. I am becoming a better shot primarily because I shoot the recurve so much. I truly believe that trad shooting teaches you the required form to be better with a compound. I think one can become decent with a compound even with poor form, but not so much with the recurve, so the latter has really helped me. I still have a long ways to go though.

Don't waste your time or typing on arguing with Stubby. He has set views of anyone that hunts with a bow. Whether they are accurate or not, he will continue to define anyone that hunts with a bow by his narrow view. That has become very evident.

Cleared a bit more to get a 50yd shot and my first 3 were a few inches high. Not horrible though. Back to the recurve.

Lobster claw is on my hit list

This is still up? -
I would bet that the guys I hunt with all could fill 4 does tags by Nov. 1. We never do, but it would be possible if any of them wanted to do that much butchering in Oct. and be left with no doe tags before Nov. 1. I realize that not everyone has the benefit of the doe a-plenty lands we hunt, but I am sure there are some on this site that do. Even if tags were more readily available, I doubt I would kill more doe or any sooner, but it sounds like some would and why not take the "be left with no doe tags" problem out of the equation.

Doesn't someone do this every year and then remove the post? -
As soon as I am elected Governor, I am appointing you as Commissioner of the DEC John! Don't quit your current job just yet though.

Naturally occurring mineral deposit. -
Never mind the deer, I would just enjoy the view there from a stand
-
No longer have it. Don't recall where it went, but all of my current scopes are either zeiss or vortex.
-
Pygmy has exhibited great self control, despite my best efforts to tempt him, soooo ..... Still available. I really don't want to post her on the major gun sights.
-
Darn steep mountainside too. I think WNY was commenting on the pic orientation.
-
Little back and high Biz. I think you need to adjust the scope. Just kidding and nice Mulie. Everyone seems to love Leupies but my experience was bad with the one VX 1 I had. You almost needed a wrench to adjust the magnification. Very stiff. Maybe I got a bad one.
-
That's a happy card pull
-
Good doe numbers will draw the bucks in come late October. Good luck Biz

Had to be Butch. Heck, I think that's how the term "butch" became synonymous with being manly. The prototypical bully.

I love shooting trad, but the compound can still be a blast. Shot a few groups at 40yds and they were about the same (probably better) as my good groups at 20 with the recurve and I rarely shoot the compound vs 4-5 times per week with the recurve. If the only goal is to kill deer, I need my head examined as to why I like hunting with the recurve. But I guess it's not the only goal. I wish I had 60yds out my back door to shoot the compound.

I bet the majority of days will be W or SW - set up for those and if you have an extra, set of for a N-NW wind. East winds are more rare (at least here) but it would be nice to have a spot for that rare day if needed.

Thoughts on Ameristep Brickhouse Ground Blind?
moog5050 replied to BizCT's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I hate hunting blinds. Feel so trapped by them with very limited visibility. It would have to be raining to get me in one. The harnesses aren't bad Biz. Buy a pair of the spiderweb bibs. Very comfortable and the harness is built it. Piece of cake. BTW - get those blinds in early so the deer are accustomed to them. Tough to set a blind and hunt it immediately with success. -
Not a big fan of soybeans. The deer stop using them by the time the season opens and there is very little left after harvesting. Much prefer when the crops around us are corn and wheat.
-
As an aside, I also like bareshaft tuning a lot, but not for a new shooter. Its critical for traditional shooters IMO.
-
I agree both forms of tuning work and I use them both. But for a newbie on his own, I think walk back tuning is the better option. Paper tuning requires more knowledge of tuning and works better when you already have solid and consistent form. JMO.
-
Rock I would definitely start with a release if you are new to shooting. Much more consistent. and if the arrow is moving right as you move father away, you probably have your rest too close to the riser (could be a weak spine, but its easy to adjust the centershot on the rest). Loosent he adjument on the rest and move it 1/16" at a time until your arrown remains in a straight vertical line as you move further away - try 20-30 and 40 yds. Shooting through paper means that you paper tune. Probably not needed if you are just starting, but its helps to identify, based on the tear, what adjustments should be made to the bow for a proper tune.

You guys are cruel. Everyone needs a break, even the deer. Its like a timeout in tag. Just tell the deer that they need to return to their original spot when you get back in the stand. No harm, no foul.
