  1. I received some great advice from one forum member here and it has helped me kill some deer in my first bow and now gun season. Wherever you are thinking about hunting, ask yourself "why am I likely to see deer here?" If you can't answer that question with two or more solid reasons, keep scouting for another spot. Good luck and don't rely on the scents or lures. Pattern the deer and the other hunters (especially now) in your area. Good luck.
  2. The heli-m is compact and works well from a climber. I have no regrets in that purchase.
  3. Welcome Craig. Do your dad proud this year. He will be watching.
  4. Thank you, but in all fairness, I am blessed to hunt some good populated areas. The opportunities were there for me. Not as easy in other areas of the state, I am sure.
  5. It was a blast and sure enough, I am addicted to bow hunting. No trophies to hang, but got a nice doe and small buck. Happy with a good start on filling the freezer this year. Thanks to everyone on this site for some great advice and especially Phade for helping me out personally, including helping to track one doe I never recovered (that was a bummer) and scouting with me. I also learned yesterday in my final bow sit why I should wait for the big boys, because one finally appeared and I couldn't shoot him. He still had my adrenaline going just watching him sniff a trail around my stand. Anyways, looking forward to opening day of regular season and a trip to PA for opening day there. Wishing you all the best during this next season. Please keep posting the harvests as they encourage me to get out there all the more. Brian
  6. Well nice shooting. When I go to the range with my brother, I quit on the pistols quick. I much prefer longer shots with rifles where I know I can put them close. This would make me rethink the whole pistol thing.
  7. I guess so. I can barely hit an 8x11 piece of paper at 15 yards with my brother's pistols. Do you need a carry permit for these "pistols"?
  8. That's some good shooting with a pistol.
  9. FIL looks happy phade. Well done. Sitting over corn now. Wish they would combine it. Lol
  10. Congrats. Nice deer and great story.
  11. Took my first doe this year from a blind - dressed in all black and left the back closed and sides just slightly (2") open to see what may be coming. The front was open 8" or so. That said, I agree it can be a pain to shoot from a hub blind. For me, the biggest issue is spotting the deer before its practically on me. Due to the height of brush, I only had 3 shooting lanes out to 25 yards or so. The doe did still spot me when I was drawn as it started bobbing its head at me and walking towards me. It did settle down and move broadside before I shot.
  12. I plan on mounting a heated recliner next season. If I don't see anything, at least I will be comfortable. Bringing my living room into theirs.
  13. I am a big guy but find single stands more comfortable. At least they usually have useable arm rests. The two man stand is like stting in the middle of a hard bench. All that said, I prerfer my summit goliath for comfort.
  14. That's what I was told Saturday by my cousin's uncle. Dave and I played football together in college. Haven't seen him in a long time.
  15. I was told last week that Dave isn't doing mounts this year, but I heard it second hand.
  16. Great recount. Good luck in nailing that monster. As I was reading down, I was expecting to see a photo of a big buck down,
  17. I use strictly stirrups on the Goliath. Works great. I do keep a chord tied between the lower mount and upper mount in the event the lower mount was to slip while I am climbing.
  18. Probably not what you want to hear, but my rage shoot the same as FP and practice head. I am not sure I would re-sight for just that broadhead. Might be better to find one that flies like your FPs. I have also had good success with G5s. Just a newbie's opinion, but sighting for a single broadhead that flies that much differently than your FPs will screw it up for FP practice and other broadheads.
