  1. I agree WNY. Biz - my experience is that unless you are hunting in a hurricane, 10-20mph wind has very little effect out to 40. If you want to play the wind, I suspect the adjust is inside of an inch at those distances with even moderate to heavy wind, at least with my set up. Not sure how much more lighter arrows will move, but just test it when practicing.
  2. So what is being suggested is that it is better to use a lighter arrows if you aren't good at judging distances. That may be true to some extent. That doesn't make the arrow more accurate because it is lighter. Rather, it helps to minimize the effect of the archer's error in judging distance.
  3. I shoot heavy (495g) arrows by todays standards for 3 simple reasons: 1. I seem to hold tighter groups; 2. They are quieter; 3. They penetrate the target deeper. Since I won't likely ever shoot beyond 40 yards where I hunt, speed is not really a factor, in my opinion. I do believe that the heavier arrows maintain greater momentum. But even light arrows will kill anything you hunt in NY.
  4. Butane - they are silent and no smell that I can tell, but I guess it emits an odor like some type of flower the mosquitos hate.
  5. I agree that cover should dictate. You can be seen at 10 or 20 if you have no cover. Also, the steeper the shot, the harder it is as the deer gets closer. I hunted a few time last year at 20 and was still spotted once. That was open hardwoods where the deer was watching me as it approached. may have worked better if it was heavy cover even down at the deer's line of sight.
  6. Be cognizant of the thermals and swirling wind. Good luck.
  7. Check out huntingbeast.com. Tons of info on hunting swamp bucks there.
  8. Mike I would call Bill. He does respond to emails but calls are quicker. I have never done any work with Tarjac but didn't they have a dispute with elite? I know nothing about the reasons why, but heard rumors of quality issues. I could be spreading incorrect info on that, but do check it out.
  9. x2 - I weigh over 300 and the goliath is great. Its the most comfortable stand I have ever sat.
  10. Mike Talk to Bill at ulitmate finishers in Newark, NY. They do kolorfusion, which is very durable and his work is excellent. I have used them for bows, but know that they also do gun stocks, among other things.
  11. I have the muck woody elite. I really like them. Not to heavy and my feet stayed warm with a decent pair of carhart arctic socks. I hunt a lot of wetlands and these definitely stay dry. The only complaint I have is that the neoprene does tend to tear at times if caught on thorns. That said, no leaks and I suspect they will last 3 seasons. They run true to size and even with the socks, my normal shoe size was good. I wear a EEE shoe and the regular size are wide enough.
  12. POR is great stuff. Just don't get it on your hands unless your want black splattered hands for quite a while. Do you know anyplace local that sells POR15?
  13. I was too lazy to actually price out dish but called TW and they had a package that actually upgraded both my cable and internet for $20 less per month. Its worth a call to ask.
  14. BTW - the 2013 are over $300 to give you an idea of the price asked by phade.
  15. Your distance from the cam is irrelevant, but you need decent coverage in the area of the cam. I know it works with ATT, not verizon. Not sure about others, but you can have the pictures sent by email so that even with verizon it works. You just need to set up an acocount with ATT - figure $5/month unless you are sending a boatload of photos. It may work directly with sprint.
  16. I can attest they work great, assuming decent cell service in the area. Its a steal at this price too. I can't wait to hold off on an area until the photos sent to the phone tell me when and where the buck is traveling.
  17. They may be held over, but yes today is supposed to be the last day

    early bow?

Is it last year's tags or license to hunt Sept 27, i.e. if I filled my tags last year do I have to wait until Oct. 1 and use the new tags?
  21. Agreed on 60x. I purchased two full sets and they were spot on. He is in PA.
