  1. Just asking...but is that the original truck bed? Did he cut it off the original truck? I mean, the guy is into detail with the Miller beer. Or did he make a collage of a junk truck bed, just a beer box, etc.? And were those THE boots he wore? But sure is different.
  2. That one-horned six-point still retained his antler to April 4. Now that is getting pretty late. First week of April is the latest I have ever got one on camera that still carried an antler, and that was a fuzzy spike at night.
  3. I think this is the last buck in my area that still has an antler on his head...as of the last day of March. Only one, but it still counts. I have gotten trail cam shots of bucks still with antlers into the first week of April but those instances are few and far between. By the looks of it, he's a lover not a fighter.
  4. Thanks. The old grey shoulder ain't what it used to be. lol. Too many softball games...men's league and I played centerfield. I loved still hunting with that bow. So different than a compound bow, especially stealing down a trail with the bow pointed ahead, not catching any weeds or twigs. I dream about doing it again...maybe someday. But I would have to practice a lot...lots of arrows.
  5. Beautiful bow. Enjoy your new beauty! The trick for me, back when I hunted with my long bow was practice, practice, practice. No sights. Here's a photo of my right-handed Howard Hill custom Big Five (five laminated bamboo.) Seventy pounds at 29 inches. Hunted with from 1978 to 1996. Before that, 1970 to '78, recurves. My shoulder started going (rotator cuff) so I switched to lefty compounds. Killed deer each year with it. Loved to still hunt with it. Shot the winter archery leagues with it. A lot of arrows. Fletched my own arrows with my gobbler feathers back in the day and like Lawd...always used Rothhaar Snuffers. Killed my best 10 pt. to date with it, a 300-pound hog in Tenn. and bear in Ontario. Native American gal did the custom beadwork etc. on the cloth case.
  6. My oldest son graduated from UB. Go Bulls!
  7. Bucks apparently are individual. Some participate hard in the rut, others don't. Some racks get all broken up, other bucks are spent early and shed, and yet others haven't even worn down the tip of a point. Some are lovers and some are fighters.
  8. I will be looking! We found one already. But it was back during gun season, at the end of November near that spot.
  9. Interesting how bucks spar (fight) after the rut, reestablishing their hierarchy. Those bucks that drop or shed early, also drop in status in the bachelor group.
  10. Will do. I'll try tomorrow to dig them all out. The only divers I have are a dozen blue bills. Mostly mallards and woodies.
  11. There is no right or wrong in this question of ownership...but it does tell us what the hunters are made of. What type of people are the two hunters when it comes down to a difficult ethical choice? Deer hunting brings out the best and worst in people and in direct proportion to the size of the rack. There is an old rule...not mentioned yet in this thread. Well, more of a guideline. "First arrow, last bullet gets to decide." I've been on both sides of the equation. Had a young hunter leg-shoot a nice 8 pt. many years ago. I didn't know it was hit when I dropped it. As I was finished dressing it out, the kid comes up. Luckily I had not filled out my tag. 'Course I gave him the deer. But it would have run forever with that hit. Lost a 10-point during archery season to someone else who claimed it. Years later he came clean and gave me the rack which I always have been grateful for. Good and bad in all of us, it is what we choose to act on that is important.
  12. Took this doe on Wednesday, 11.14.18. There was a dusting of snow. Been getting trail cam shots of a tanker and I held out for him as he was running and trailing does. But alas, only a six-point yearling was following her, so I with time running out, I let the arrow fly at her at 10:30 am. A bit far back, liver hit. Got on the easy track in the snow. Bumped her from her first bed at about 75 yards. Backed out. Gave her three hours. Came back and found her next to an old farm implement in the thick stuff...after another 75 yards. She had bedded and gotten up twice more. She bedded in honey suckle and multiflora rose. Easy steady trail. Hand pruners were handy cutting through the rose stems. The six-point presented a better shot than she did, but still hoping for a shot at the big guy. But the snow moved in. But I have a buck tag for muzzleloader/bow, and some venison in the freezer.
  13. Good point. I always put a camo blaze orange vest on with the snow camo when I am gun hunting (as opposed to archery.)
  14. Been wearing snow camo when snow is on the trees and ground since the early 80's. Killed a lot of deer when wearing it. Best time is early, first one or two...three snows. Deer have a difficult time picking you up when you move, like when you pick your bow off a hook, draw, or have to move your gun. Big advantage for the hunter. Mine is soft...I got my first set from "The Camo Clan"...no noise. I also have suits from Cabelas and Predator. They are all good...better than looking like a blob against the snow.
  15. Been on here in Allegany County since Halloween. Never heard so much grunting or seen so much chasing. A couple days ago I was treated to a chase past my stand with five bucks after a doe with her tongue hanging out. Two baskets were in close pursuit and she couldn’t shake them. Three spikes were bringing up the rear, grunting with tongues out too, but they lost her track and circled downwind under my stand like bird dogs casting back and forth. I’ve only seen that a couple times. Pretty cool.
  16. I moved a stand at 2 pm on Nov. 4th last season and killed my 8 pointer two hours later as he trailed a doe, grunting, 12 yards from my new stand. Move it quickly and leave as little footprint as possible. Judicious but necessary pruning for shooting lanes, only.
  17. 9Y - Date and time correct on photo. Bucks beginning to hit scrapes and work the overhanging branch. Saturday had a six-point buck hard-chase a big doe, that was running hard, under my stand at about 5 pm in the sunshine.
  18. That shot was snapped at 2:48 pm. He came back through almost a 1/2 hour later
  19. Finally a good buck shows up. But I was someplace else.
  20. How did he build it? Should be a youtube link.
  21. Weird...but great night...so many strange things...like Angel Hernandez and all the bang-bang, wrong calls, the Holtmonster hitting for the cycle and then 16 freaking runs on 18 hits...to 1 for the Yanks. Hopefully, the magic continues one more night!
  22. Last time the Sox and Yanks played in the playoffs was 2004. Remember that one? Wow. And the Sox finally won the World Series...in a long time. This should be a good game if you like baseball.
  23. Did you score him? The DEC 2017 harvest report shows Lake Plains bucks (I'm assuming that's where he was killed) that are 2.5 years old average score around 100, while the average 3.5 year old scores close to Pope and Young...116. That buck looks like he would score a little over 100, just a real nice typical 8 pt.
