  1. Those hit like a sac of bricks. Even harder than my heavy shot.
  2. Congrats thats a nice bird! I was the one who said to close the window lol. What shells were you using? I find that the higher end shells tend to drop them hard. Only two birds that I shot with heavy shot flopped, the rest just went down with out a twitch
  3. 5:30 its from the roost. I have a hard time telling if its from the ground or roost. Ive always found that they get down around 5:50 or so where I hunt. I think Tacks and someone like TF would be able to tell you more than me tbh
  4. Try not to call too much on the roost. Only a few notes for them to know you're there. They tend not to fly down as early or come in as they get frustrated the hen isnt coming to them. I find they tend to roost in the same area most of the season (unless bumped) so id say go there sit where you deer hunt. If you want to get in close, Id go in much earlier. Theres a better chance they'll stay sleeping and not bust you the earlier you go
  5. Today was weird for me. Got up at 2:30 and got to my spot at 4:30. Perfectly quiet walk in and I went in close to where they roost. I didnt hear one gobble from the roost at all. Ive never seen this before at this property. Usually theres at least 3-4 gobblers going every morning. I ended up being 60 yards from 2 hens I think (they flew down to some thick stuff 30 yards so I couldnt tell if they were both hens (one definitely was). I did find my first shed from an 8 pount or maybe a 7 point. It was 10 feet from the tree I sat at first. Around 8 I went to the place where I shot both birds last year. I couldnt get my crystal pot call to work so im using a mouth call till mine comes in the mail. Its not nearly as loud so I couldnt get much volume due to the small creek rushing with water. I went close to the place I thought they might be and called. Made the mistake of breaking my rule that I never call with out having a pre determined spot to sit. 2 gobblers hammered back at 40 yards in the bushes. While trying to get set up, they must have come running in or saw me. Rookie mistake, but I decided to scout the area a bit, since ive never been to that part. I found a 30 yard by 30 yard area just tore up with scratchings from today. I know where Ill be going during the week if I can get out. Even the land owner and neighbors said they havent seen a turkey this spring, which is really weird. Might be a tough one for me this year, but Ill still be getting out there!
  6. Im going to try all day tomorrow and see what I can do. Worse comes to worse Ill try hunting with a mouth call
  7. Have any of you guys worn through a crystal call? Ive been trying to condition this call that ive been using for the last 6 years and I keep getting a high pitch squeaking sound. Good thing I have a mouth call I can use instead. I ordered a new pot call just in case, but Its not coming till may 13th. I gotta stop leaving things till last minute
  8. Lol I know turkey hunting can be fantastic in the rain, I just personally never had much luck in the rain for some reason.
  9. I’ve always heard and found they don’t gobble well when it’s raining. And they gobble pretty hard after it’s rained a few days. That’s what I’m hoping for as well. Unless you’re hunting public land, I would say go out Saturday, but that’s just my opinion. There are much better turkey hunters on here that can tell you better Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. It’s going to be raining for the next two days with thunderstorms Friday. Do you think it’s better to hunt Saturday or Sunday? Might even do both to be honest lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Dont think its worth the time or energy to be honest. You should be dialed in within 2-3 shots anyway
  12. Congrats! Sounds like great memories that'll last a lifetime
  13. Got lucky and scored on a box of mag blends this morning. They only had one box, but Ill be calling again saturdy to see if they get more in stock. If they do ill be buying 3 more boxes
  14. Another reason why I want to pay my friend to help me. I don't know much about it, but he does. Itll help with the learning curve
  15. Right I forgot to mention that. I dont use any weed killer on my lawn or anything, and I never will for that reason
  16. I got a good idea for you. Go out and buy a permiable fabric and put it down on the bare ground. Make a hole for each plant and plant it there. Itll stop weeds from growing and permable is the key word. Or if you cut your own grass, you can spread the grass clippings on the bare ground. Itll do the same thing as the fabric, but also adding a slow release fertilizer. Only down side is you have te re-apply once a week or once every 2 weeks I use grass clippings on my garden
  17. I gotcha bud! Just make sure you bring the dog with you!
  18. Join the dark side with me! Get a new dog lol
  19. Im glad that my friend thats a trainer is only a 20-30 min drive from my house. I dont mind it leading to more hunts and more guns to be honest lol
  20. I forgot how expensive those are lol
  21. Ill make an account, thanks for sharing!
