great deer!

We should have a "2010 Deer Harveted" section what do you think?

lol it was brutal this morning... did you go out?

i dont mind rain either but this morning was a down pour with about 30 mile an hour winds lol... not fun... not to ideal for deer hunting.

with this front thats past us now, clear skys with a bit cooler temps, i dont see why these deer should not be on there feet... i wont make the morning hunt but i will shoot in around 1pm for an afternoon evening hunt... hope were into em tomorrow.

Well i decided to take the gamble this morning for opening day on the island. Needless to say it was un godly windy out this morning. i slipped into my stand at 5:20am and had alittle over an hour before first light. With it still very windy the sun started to come up as planned and it looked like the start to one of those morning we all think about heading into our stand. it looked perfect... until around 8:30, started to feel some drops and then all of a sudden the sun was out, started to feel drops again and then the sun came out. We'll then around 9:15ish the down pour came, i stuck it out until 10:30 but soaked to the bone and not seeing deer one i decided to pull out. i did see about 12 turks on the way out. If the dear movemt was decent or if i even saw a deer during that time period i would not have given it a second thought i would grin and beared it and stuck it out the day. well weather looks crapy ALL day, going in tomorrow with some renewed hope and i am feeling good about tomorrow! I have some incentive to bare the elements and keep me wanting to go back this stand if you know what i mean LOL, cough cough... goodluck fellas!

in most cases the wind is almost certain to change throughout the day. i never hit the panic button, i always stick it out in that stand. ive had deer come in from all different wind directions. they never seem to follow the same guidelines we do and can be some what unpredictable...

rain or shine im going in! ive been dyeing to sit this stand and im looking forward to it. ive seen big bucks up on there feet during the rain, so im going to give it a shot. we will see what happens. im excited eitherway... gotta be in it to win it...

cant wait for tomorrow! ill be in bright and early in hopes to our season opener, looks like rain but im all in! you have to be in it to win it...

<< same boat here... its a yearly grind for me and about 3 months before the season it gets intense! i start watching my hunting DVD's like months before the season just to take it all in... its funny, i dont know if its just me but when i watch my drury videos and do some pre season stuff it makes me feel liek the season has been going for months by the time the actual season gets here. and when it gets here im pretty calm cool and collect when those bucks start coming out. but boy do i get pumped tho none the less.

WOW, how did i over look this topic? lol well 10 pages in, in 2 days is to much for me to read and catch up on.. Alls i can say is this is a hotly debated topic that will never go either way. There are way to many opinions on this and luckily for all of us, if AR's are decided in any WMU it will be the DEC's decision and ultimately NONE of ours... So rest asure that argueing about opinions based on personal experience or opinions in general are totally irrelevant. We all in our own ways have our own thoughts on this topic and to me i can level with both sides of the spectrum. A guy who only gets opening weekend to go up and make a harvest will not be happy with AR's in his WMU because it limits it opportunities. But one who has his own land and can practice AR and QDM might get angry with a neighboring hunter who shoots anything, when the hunters who is trying to do somthing good can ruin it. honestly i think it is what it is, NY does not have a shortage of deer but in some areas may have smaller deer then others. i will support whatever decisions and laws implemented for us by the DEC. So long as prices do not keep going up on tags... i could be off base here to some but i am writing this on the fly on break right now. (limited time)

yes the wind was just right that day and it happened to me once. i swore i smelled him before i saw him...

i just did some tender loins last week that i marinated for a few days and cooked on the grill. came out great! my buddy loved them and even his fiance and mine loved them...

i usually sit all day not matter the time of the season... i have been getting good deer movemtn oon trail cam from a week ago at around the noon time to 330 ish and thats just what my trail cam catches in the spot. so ill be sitting the day unless i feel like getting out for lunch. even if the morning may not be productive, as a hunter i always try to be positive and tell myself it can happen any minute and you know what sometimes it actully does! and the time could be 12 - 1pm. my mind frame while i am in for lunch is always thinking about what could be walking past my stand while in eating. so i bring lunch and sit the day. i love it... thank god for 5 hour energy drinks LOL
