  1. its a deer... a wild animal... the tree that camera hangs on is one tree, one tree in a patch of woods with how many trees?? a deer doesn't always or have pass that exact tree. is it likely that the deer will pass that tree more then once in one months time? YES.... is it likely that the deer could pass behind it, 60 yards in front of it or 60 yards behind it? YES so unless if its a spot a deer literally HAS to pass every time going to or from an area whos to say that deer will pass the same tree twice unless there's something there bringing him to it like a food plot or something. just because you dont see him, does not mean hes not there and even if he is there, when the rut comes does not mean he will stick around... wish him luck killing him.
  2. welcome home how was it out there?
  3. i mean ive pet some that were tame before at parks or zoos but the closest wild experience ive had was about 2 years ago i had a basket 8 walk up to me less then 8 feet to my side in my down wind side. walked right to the side of me and literally got right next to me before he even noticed me. he was looking up and down for a min or two trying to get me to move, he was breathing so loud. i never ran off just walked off when he saw i never budged. but if i extended the gun out to my side the barrel could have hit him in the nose.
  4. you should go to a pro shop and have them help you out... there are many variables to consider and think about when deciding on arrow size and also weight for that matter. getting a little help from a shop in person would be a good bet
  5. BUSHNELL TROPHY CAMS ALL THE WAY super fast trigger speed and VERY fast recovery time in between shots! recovery is key
  6. being on the island its hard to expect and see conditions where the wind will predominantly come from one direction, making wind play very hard. It swirls, it changes and it blows in opposite directions almost immediately throughout the day. So getting up and changing sets isn't really an option as MOST places i hunt on LI seems to be that way. i take scent control as far as i can and tend to be less of a wind freak...
  7. Eastern NY? or LI? Areas on LI can vary year to year, you may not be seeing many this year but oh boy they are out there. I use a lot of spray so i dont pick any up or if i do its few and far in between. some areas are worse then others and are always bad... i have a spot thats pretty bad MOST years. i have heard some horror stories about ticks this year and even worse the chiggers, so dont get complacent, they are there.
  8. since im moving upstate this will prob be the last year i really get to hunt the island often... who knows this may be my year, fingers crossed. but with looking at houses upstate and so on it gets kind of hard to shoot to my spots up there and throw a cam in, even tho im right there in the area.
  9. nice bucks for sure, id say the wider one is around 110" and the tall tine with the small to no brows will go high 90s may hit the 100"
  10. yes long island i would like to get some cams rolling upstate but every time im up there i keep running out of time before i have to shoot back home...
  11. nothing huge but nice to see some deer in the short period of time i had the cam out. i had put the cam out when i was scouting and figured id leave it out for the few days until i returned to limb up the tree and clear a few lanes. nice cross roads spot for multiple runs right in a funnel area. i wont be using the cams anymore i dont think, going to go with the element of surprise lol. i know the big boys are there, i guess if it cross paths with a nice buck i will be seeing the deer for the first time come deer season and not on my trail cam.
  12. Yes the buck on the left is bigger. Thought it was neat to capture a little spar action on cam.
  13. put the cam out for 3 days, in this one spot just to see what was going on out there. happen to catch 2 buck sparring both bucks are all rubbed out and out of the 10 or so bucks i got on cam id say 8 of them were rubbed out.
  14. nice buck WNY i put a cam out for like 3 days out in one of my spots, most of the 2 year olds were all rubbed out already... only ones with velvet was the small 1.5's
  15. no prob, it happens and no worries
  16. i agree that lack of confidence can kill you for sure... BUT you would be surprised how bad over confidence will get you. the old saying, dont count your chickens just yet. some guys myself included are already thinking of what they are texting their buddies before they even release the arrow which may ring some volume for me as to why i put myself on nice deer but cant seem to close the deal. so weird lol no expectations this year, the deer is not dead until i have my hands on it.
  17. i agree with you in a sense but blowing the guys spot up is a bad approach. if the OP's following threads contain more WANTS then the MODS will handle it. We dont want to beat him over the head the second he steps foot in here. but i hear what you are saying
  18. there are people giving away tags often. the OP is asking if anyone would happen to have one that they may not be going to use. i dont see where we are in the the TAG SWAP thread right now so i do not see a problem with asking. i think if you dont have much positive to chime in with just keep it to yourself...
  19. no harm in asking... ask and one may receive, there may be someone here willing to part with one who knows.
  20. good stuff, looks like it would have been pretty cool to watch. 55 years? yikes lol dont say that out loud eddie... jk
  21. ahhh good one... wouldnt have thought of it. does it work pretty good? i usually pee in scrapes and they tare em up but never tried it in a drip.
