  1. Same here 8H , Cand. Pic won’t load , picture a snow covered woods on the edge of a green field with no deer .
  2. I know two guys , very avid hunters , who just plain stopped . One in his early 60’s one in his 50’s , walls of heads, a month off for deer season type guys , I’ve tossed it around a time or two myself . I agree with Gman , my pulse doesn’t rise when I take a shot, it’s become matter of fact ho hum , something I hope happens in a few hours..... https://1source.basspro.com/news-tips/hunting-information/6478/5-stages-hunter-which-one-are-you
  3. I’m pushing 62 , I’m willing to be called elderly...... Ive got 4 hunts planned over W,TH,F , and we may push mine and Joes land a bit Sat. Would prefer to avoid late bow ,unless weather is ok . I do have about 30 pounds off Joes deer and 10 pounds Elk .
  4. He broke his ribs falling off a horse the day before he was to break the air speed record . He had a DR tape it up , and a friend rigged a way for him to close the hatch , as he couldn’t with the broken ribs . He kept that a secrete so he could do it ! Flew combat missions in three wars . RIP Sir !
  5. This year I came to the realization that I’m a meat hunter ( although I do prefer my meat to have horns ) . Not having meat now bothers me more then not having antlers to toss in a pile .
  6. Sat in the thicket this morning . The frozen winter wheat field did not make for a quiet approach . Took a slow walk around after , found three sizable beds, but no other sign . They cut a cornfield about 1,200 yards North after I left , last and closest corn to me , but two other woods closer to it . We shall see tomorrow afternoon . I can’t set up on it , but perhaps some moved my way.
  7. At this point fawns are in danger.
  8. My daughter is going from Buffalo to Webster tomorrow morning , but you’d have to stand along the thruway and toss them through a window as she slows down .........

    Flag Poles

Yes Red . I also have a friend who lives in Webster who installs them ,if need be .
  10. Very cool . when I canoed the Yukon River , there was an old trappers ,or gold miners cabin ,where everyone lined the wall, with booze bottles, and carved their name and where from into the wall as well. I’ll try and find the photo.
  11. Thanks, I still got a good month and a half to hunt my spot as well ....
  12. The third one was with the pie bald 5, that I saw in bow as well , I passed him, and shot my second 8 as the farmer next to us didn’t want it shot . Then later setting up to,push Kenny’s woods, the watchers drove him up into the woods, and it stood 30 yards from me, figuring 3 bucks so far was enough I let him walk for the second time that day . I still regret that . Off to grab a cup and char pizza, for supper and my breakfast in the truck as I head down in the AM, I’ve given you guys a big enough head start !
  13. The original was from Deer and Deer Hunting mag, then just a spead sheet my friend made up .
  14. You snooze you loose . They had them when I posted and I almost bought some just in case had two boxes in my cart , but then I backed out . I messaged Brian as well ,maybe he got some .
  15. Well he shoots like three arrows a week before ......
  16. Buds has these . https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/87568/hornady+22-250+remington+50+grain+v-max
  17. I’m sure there’s a way, a friend has his sump pump alarm on his phone , as well as getting notifications when his garage door opens . Here ya go Mr Google knew . https://www.dopehome.com/best-wifi-freezer-alarms/
  18. Fletch, that’s a good idea ! I do, like a nuts and bolts approach like the form I used though , just fill in the blanks and a few details . I could never write paragraphs on each hunt ,it’s hard enough to jot down a few numbers in my DEC bowhunters log . So I was just logging kills . I have next to no pictures of any doe I’ve killed and way less then half the bucks , many of the racks I’ve given away as well . Kinda like those monks that do the sand mandalas.
  19. I wish I had more complete ones , it was great fun looking back and remembering these all over as well as the methods and so forth . This covers the years 1998-2001 ( including the legendary 3 buck year ), just one entry for 2001 the last line . Interesting,12 kills only 1 required tracking and that was 30 yards , 7 out of 12 were taken while driving , pushing ( same thing ) or walking hedgerows , 1 buck I stalked him over the crest of a crop field hill, when a combine turned him back towards me , I had totally forgot that hunt . I had three bow kills in those four years and neither required any tracking ! I remember two clearly as once the two blade Mangus passed through them they just looked around ,and one went back to feeding ,til her back legs started to tremble and she took one final lunge . I encourage all to keep good records ,wish I kept up with them . Oh this reflects three hunters, Mr 870, and Mr 16 ga Ithaca , which in one spot is incorrectly listed as a12 ga, the BPS, bow and Dan Wesson are mine . I think I’ll add more based upon memories and the skull caps which I record ,dates ,distance weapon .
  20. I believe it’s very specific to areas ,some very small areas. My spot which has been easy hunting both bow and gun for the majority of the 32 years I’ve hunted it ,dried up in bow this year ,fewest sightings ever . But being in a wood lot surrounded by thousands of acres of crops all with there own wood lots ,thickets , creek bottoms , gives them options on where to go . This year everything by me was cut early , then either chisel plowed ,or covered in manure , sightings dropped accordingly. Id bet those 1/2 mile to 1 mile away still with standing corn are doing quite well though . Just a weird year I don’t believe numbers are down overall ,just that they’ve left for greener pastures , next year corn will be in two sides of me beans one and clover the other . DanD ,agree, I’ve seen one hunter out on the pieces next to me , next to no trucks along roads .
  21. Actually Jeremy Hurst runs the deer , bear and moose program statewide . He also mentioned a Sept gun hunt in areas near Lonsberry , where they need to reduce the population, so parts zone 8 . Fingers crossed for 8H .
