  1. Very cool buck. I like the funk he’s got going on on the one side. Little palmation. Very cool. Congrats.
  2. Hunt the corners/runs coming off the golden rod in the morning. Does bed like crazy in there. Bucks should be bird dogging through it or working the downwind edge. I have one go to spot off some golden rod that I sit in the rut. No joke, 85% of the time I sit that spot (at the right time) I see a buck. Good luck!
  3. Agree with G-Man. Does aren’t hot hot yet. Had a little buck trailing a bunch of does last night. Grunting every now and then but just scent checking once they ran off. It’s about to kick off.
  4. Leaves were nice and crunchy. Saw 10 doe and 1 three point this afternoon. Still hitting the acorns. Could have shot four different doe but I passed thinking I could get a damn selfie with a big buck.... just this guy showed up
  5. First deer of the day was just now. 7 point with his nose to the ground. Stay in the woods guys.
  6. Lol that was from my window during bow season. My uncle ended up killing him during crossbow. He was a real nice ten.
  7. Didn’t get out this morning. Are we saying the chase is on?! I need to get out there and get a selfie with a monster.
  8. Cobb Creek state forest? Just found it on google maps. Looks like as good a place as any. I’m just geeked out about gun hunting this time of year. Can’t help but feel I’m doing something wrong. Hoping to stumble into a buck!
  9. Found a nice piece of state land in the northern zone near Watertown. Me and the .270 are going to take a ride tomorrow. Are we sure this is legal?! It still feels weird.
  10. Took some screenshots from the video. Wish I could post the fawn video. He was going nuts on that thing till momma put an end to it.
  11. Rubs and scrapes all over the place out there. Saw 8 deer tonight. 6 doe, a fawn and had a six point literally right under me. The first doe I saw came from down the ridge. Came up to me and bleated. Then I see this little fawn come running down from up the ridge. He went right to town on momma. Got some great video of it. Not sure how to post it. Awesome sit for me. Already filled the buck tag, holding on to the doe tag so I can enjoy the woods a little more. Good luck everyone.
  12. Not always a bad thing. I’ve had them walk off then lay down and die not far away. You’ll get him.
  13. so I have a random question and didn’t want to start a new thread for it. A quick response will suffice. I used my bow tag, can I now go up to the northern zone and gun hunt with my regular season tag? Might be a stupid question but I’ve never hunted up there and it feels weird gun hunting during bow season lol. Thanks in advance.
  14. Well.. rough tape job, my first ever, came up 138! More than expected. Good luck to all others out there! And congrats to all that have scored already. Hope to see a lot more down. It’s still early!
  15. Thanks Lawdwaz! I have not aged or weighed him. We are guessing 4 1/2. And he was a heavy mother for what it’s worth. Had to take a break 3 times to drag him 70 yards.
  16. Thanks guys. He’s definitely a buck of a lifetime. I knew he was a good one but had no idea he was that big. I was quite surprised when I walked up on him afterward. My buddies and I were guessing 130 range
  17. I downed this beauty of a buck Monday afternoon. I’m going to try my best to score him tonight before I get him to the taxidermist. He’s 20 1/8 inches inside spread and 17 1/2 tip to tip. His G3’s are both 7 1/2 inches. Main beams I think are around 22 and change. Just took a quick tape to him the other night. Don’t usually care about the score but he’s unique and I would like to know roughly. Any takers on what he will be??
  18. It’s certainly easy to get bummed out.. I try and get into the woods as much as possible, which is hard with a job that demands 10-12 hours a day and a wife and two kids at home. I had seen deer on all of my sits through the early weeks of October. Only two bucks and lots of doe. The week leading up to this past Monday I had sat twice in a row without seeing a thing. I would read the live in the stand thread and hear about all this pre rut activity kicking off and it seemed to be happening everywhere except my neck of the woods. I easily fell into the trap of thinking this may not be my year, even though it was still early. Monday evening I got off work early and rushed out into the woods. Two hours into the sit had me feeling like it was going to be another deerless visit. Then, I hear crunching coming through the woods. It’s a doe and a fawn acting skittish. Stopping, looking behind, then taking off. I hear long deep grunts. Then a younger bleat like grunt. I see a small buck. A few minutes pass and more crunching coming from where the doe and fawn had originated. I see big white horns. I ended up killing the biggest buck of my life. And he was accompanied by another big racked buck that hung around to watch his buddy take his final breath. Hunting Whitetails tests your patience, your whit, your determination. But if you keep on them. Keep getting your ass out in the woods and sitting in a stand for as many hours as it takes, within minutes you could be holding the buck of your dreams. That’s all it takes. For everyone out there feeling the October buck hunting blues, keep that damn head up and stay on the grind. The bucks are out there. And it only takes that one sit to make it happen. Good luck to all. Knock one down and get some bone in your hands!!
  19. I got off work around 245 yesterday afternoon and rushed home for an evening sit. I was not expecting a sit like this... had a doe and fawn trot through around 530 acting like they were being dogged by a buck. All in all, I had 4 bucks in the area and ended up getting a shot on this brute at 30 yards. He went another 30 after the hit and I watched him pile up.The biggest buck of my life. I can’t put into words how grateful I am.
  20. It is a familiar saying in the Marines that you shoot at the gear of an enemy, not the body, with a 50 cal. I’ve heard it can rip through them as long as it’s close. Also, I spoke with an E.O.D guy that had a guy popping rounds off at them while checking out an I.E.D. Kept popping his head up over a wall. The marksman took a few shots at him and couldn’t kill him. He took the 50 out and drilled him in the head. Said it obliterated everything from mid shoulder up. Nothing but mist and small chunks. You can find YouTube videos of people shooting mountain goats over in Afghanistan. Blows them apart. I think if that deer was hit in the head there would be little left. Maybe he hit it perfect and it zipped through there. I’m no 50 cal expert.
  21. Hey, Jack. When you knock down a buck of that caliber you can come talking some smack on how he did it. He got the job done and I see his hands on those horns, not yours. Doesn’t matter how he did it. Obviously doing something right to have a buck like that on his property. With the good lord and his father looking after him. Lot of envy flowing through your veins.
  22. I’ve had doe spook because I used it too early at the end of October. Used it the other day and saw a bunch of doe. They were very relaxed also. Laid down right next to me. Came and went without looking skittish. Just my experience. I say use it.
  23. This guy was lucky I’m not a poacher... or it wasn’t gun season. I probably would have whacked him from the back deck if it were gun season. My uncle ended up getting him with the crossbow though.
