When I use my climber I always start off at a steep angle toward the tree. By the time I climb up the platform is still at an angle but not to bad. If the angle is forward, get down and adjust,NEVER hunt from a platform leaning away from the tree. There is NO rush trying to get up, being Safe should be your #1 concern. On days Im feeling lazy I will hunt from the ground. Its so much better not lugging things in. Be safe and enjoy the hunt!!

Baking soda mixed with water. also let it sit in the sun for a couple of days. It will stop stinking once the paint is totally cured. Spray it down with the bakind soda and water mix.

This is worst than waiting for Christmas when you were a kid..LOL

So sad that you have your own property and still have your stuff stolen. Hope they get caught. Im old school when you catch em "hang em it will teach them a lesson." This is the reason we all get a bad name and hunting land is soo scarce. No repect for you, your property, = lack of places to hunt for repectable people.

I know exactly where you at....I cut out all white product,No white bread, white rice, or pasta (whole wheat only) . Not on a training routine but try to ride a bike, kayak or walk a couple of times during the week. Dropped 20lbs so it a start. (i hunt by myself ) At this point in my life I have a map of where Im going, route Im traveling in and out and treestand locations im using. I also have the same map on the seat in my car just in case. I Call home when I get down out of my tree. I also started to call when Im dragging a deer out every 20 minutes. I started this about 3 years ago when I shot two does. I had a deer cart with me but with almost 250lbs + gear on the cart it made for a long drag. (4.5 hours myself) I was calling my wife every 20 minutes ( she thought I was nuts) I was serious and told her if you don't hear from me in 20 I died of a BLEEPING heart attack.LOL But I was serious. Also when I know Im doing strenuios stuff I ve been taking an aspirin day before and that night. They say that you are most likely to have a heart attack between 5AM and noon, so taking it at night helps eleviate the chances the next day. So the bottom line is this....."Enjoy every day you get to spend in the woods." BE SAFE gentlemen and good luck this season!

45? Stiill a young buck.LOL Do you hunt private or state land? The secret to success? Well find where the deer are. Trails, feeding areas, trails, funnels, scrapes, rubs all are signs that deer are around. The trick is to find a spot you have confidence in and sit, sit, sit. On stateland a honeyhole one year may be messed up the next by other hunters. Patience is the key. Some guys have success walking and stalking, but for me its SIT and wait.A good day of hunting for me is sitting all day, pack a lunch, snacks coffee and whatever else. Sounds pretty simple and has worked for me year in and year out.

Three if the moon is right.Thats what i like but doesnt alway work out that way when you hunt state land.

Yesterday was extremely slow as we changed things up and hunted on the pond (Niagara county area)instead of the field. Nothing flying to the field at all. We had only seven come in total (single, three, single, double) (we bagged 5) and very few birds seen flyng at a distance. Of course as I was out in the boat picking up decoys a flock of 4 were coming in until they seen me. (thats hunting,LOL) At least we got something!

Just wondering how everyones season has been going. Any success? The swamps are a desert. Absolutely nothing! There is a family of (4) bald eagles that ate everything, i guess. Same area last year was somewhat productive. Kind of worried of how the duck season will be with the predators there. Did some field hunting in Niagara county with some success.

Trumpeter swans should be at the grass island off of buckhorn state park about now. They hang around for a couple of weeks and then continue to migrate.

So what does gamey taste like?? (just kidding) LOL Everthing has its own flavor component.Pork tastes like pork, chicken like chicken ect.. It all depends on what it eats, how its handled and how its prepared. Over cook a duck and it tastes like liver. Goose breast it pretty good if you find a recipe that suites your taste buds.

I sit watching the news totally numb....Pray for all the families. Lets have some time to mourn and pray. Such a gut wrenching COWARDLY act. Please lets save the gun control issues for another topic. We should look at how kids games desensitize them to life in general. Pulling that trigger has no effect on life and this is what we form the minds of kids with........God Bless the victims and their families.

Shameless plug.....I do laser engraving and can put any good image on just about any material. Coffe mugs, beer mugs, wine boxes ects. Options are endless, on what we can do. Check us out www.cutting-light.com or give us a call. -
Ok lets clarify....Ive done only two headshots on does. Both where standing still and I had a steady rest. That was all they were giving me to shoot at and I am confident in my shots. One deer was in a pile of trees with here head sticking out, she stood there for better than 10 minutes. The latest was in tall grass, and she layed down and only had her head exposed. Neck shots...never. If not perpect the deer run forever and can breath with a hole in there neck. My preference is still quartering or broadside taking out the lungs.

On occasion, but you must have confidence in your shooting ability.

As wdswtr said change your pattern. I have now gone into my phase2 fall pattern. Sleep in till 8am and be in the woods by 10am. Hunt until 2 or 3pm. I did this,on Saturday on stateland that is a heavily hunted area. I was set in my stand ( 4 feet off the ground) at 10am and had a doe down by10:20am. As the season progresses guys are getting impatient and not staying in the woods as long. Days are getting colder, more guys are not staying still to keep warm. Most are leaving between 10-11am. The deer have us patterned quite well. They are now eating through the night , lay down at dawn to digest there food and are most likely moving to get some snacks (food water) after everyone is leaving for lunch. Guys come in at 2, deer go back and lay down until dark. They then pig out, have sex and party all night long.(thats my theory...LOL) You can see this pattern also with geese and ducks. Geese leave the marsh an hour before shooting light and are back 10-15 minutes after sunset. You now have to change your pattern and sleep in and stay on stand until at least 2pm. Its like throwing them a surpise party with a shotgun. LOL Give it a try and let us know what happens.

After A Lousy Day Yesterday, Didn't Bother To Go Out This Morning
Live2Hunt replied to 13BVET's topic in Deer Hunting
Just remember you can't get them sitting on the couch. I had one year with nothing and it was the last day of the season. Went out in the woods to stalk. Here come kids on a four wheeller pulling a sled. They went by me once and five minutes came by me again. I figured this a was a wasted effort. A minute after they came by I catch antlers moving in the drainage ditch and wound up with an eigth point buck that day. Don't get discouraged, deer become accustom to many sounds and may still be in your area. Get out there, get em, and good luck!!! -
First thing pack a lunch... The best deer attractent: Poor a cup of hot chocalate, coffee or tea and have a sandwich in your hand (with nowhere to put them down) and the deer will be all around you.LOL #2 is take a leak, glove in your mouth, gun in one hand, and your manhood in the other, that also works. LOL

Hang in there, but make sure you follow up on your shot. This is the important part, if you pull the trigger and she didn't drop doesn't always mean you missed.Go to where she was standing and look for sign. Really look hard for hair, blood, anything. I shot a doe this weekend at about 85 yards away and she took off running . I knew I was on with the shot so I really followed up. Some hair ,no blood. Tracked her in the leaves, through water, over 100 yards and started bleeding only 10 yards from where I found her. My biggest beef is guys shoot and don't follow up.

I think its different depending on pressure. When we had our spot in the southern tier hunting pressure was there but you did see deer during the season. I now hunt the swamps (stateland) and its a totally different kind of hunting. These deer see people and are pressure all the time. Duck, goose, rabbit, pheasent, bow, gun season all in the same area by lots of hunters. Not to mention the bird dog field trails and such. They are a well educated herd and turn nocturnal really quick. It turns into a ghost town awefully quick. Things get better once its colder as the diehard hunters are only out.
