  1. Pygmy, I guess you like your caribou, are you going back for more? Catskillkid
  2. I also have only converted to a digital camera just a few years ago. Not sure how much of a chore it would be to convert all my 35 mm pics to digital? Here are a few whitetail and mulie bucks that I shot in Idaho in 2006, 2007 & 2008 Catskillkid
  3. Great story, Pygmy Nice to read on a lazy Sunday afternoon Do you have any more? Catskillkid
  4. Pygmy, I have done two goat hunts over the last 12 years. That is one hunt that you do not want to show up for out of shape. You will pay for it big time, financially, physically & mentally
  5. Hey Dins, It that blood on your knees and a 10x40 Ziess around your neck? Catskillkidd
  6. Great video! I know some areas are overrun with deer and some zones allow unlimited does. Catskillkid
  7. Hey Dinsdale, Great story, you had me thinking that I was hunting by your side, maybe you should write for a hunting mag. You brought us along day by day and included all of the exiting events. It is much more satisfying hunting on your own as you did. The pics are awesome also, 2 great bucks! NM is one of the best states for mulies. Here is a little part of my trip. I hunted in the south east corner of BC in the Flathead River Valley at about 9k feet. I'm glad I lost 15 lbs. before the trip and lost another 10 lbs. while I was there, down 2 belt notches! Here are some of the pics.
  8. Hey Pygmy Times are hard for most people this year, It's hard to come up with the scratch to hunt elk or other western critters. I did put enough $ away in the cookie jar over the last few years for a mountain goat hunt in British Columbia in 2010. I thought I died and went to heaven, what a dream hunt it was, the mountains were amazing. Had to do it while my legs were still able to climb those hills. Sept. should be a great time for a Newfie moose, the rut should be in full force! Let me know how you make out. How did you do on your Wyoming pronghorn hunt? any pics? Catskillkid
  9. I have a little over 200 acres of my own with exclusive hunting permission on my neighbors 220 acres. I am very involved in TSI, plant about 6 acres in food plots, clover & turnips. The middle of the land is a 40 acre sanctuary which no one goes into unless performing TSI in the spring and summer. We started a 6 point or better rule about 4 years ago, and the results have been amazing. We are now seeing much larger bucks than we used to when the average buck was a fork horn. We are firm believers in taking does when the opportunity arises. QDM works!
  10. Anyone hunt in the western states or Canada this past season? Let's see the stories and pics.
  11. How about neighbors who tear down your poster signs and then hunt your land and claim it is not posted!
  12. All great bucks, guys Congrats!
  13. On my land, I am very active with my "TSI" Timber Stand Improvement work. In late December, I thinned about 2 acres in my deer wintering area. I cut down any deformed and Y shaped maples, and any other tree that has no market or wildlife value, I just leave straight stems for future harvest. The deer feed on the budding tops all winter and is a great help to get them through the tough times. In other areas that I have cut over the last 6 years, a remarkable change has occured in the forest, the sun now has a chance to regenerate undergrowth which provides fantastic cover for wildlife, i.e., deer, grouse and rabbits, and this also enhances the growth rate of maketable timber. After seeing the results of what I have been doing, my neighbor and friend are now doing the same on thier land. We check out each other's land every few months and notice a huge difference from the last visit. We are all seeing a dramatic increase in wildlife numbers and we are shooting larger bucks every year. My wife thinks that I am nuts, but it is a labor of love! Catskillkid
  14. They do bunch up in the winter. Looks like you are going to have a great spring hunt
  15. looks like one feeding on the right with it's head down facing the camera. Looks like two others, but I can just make out their noses and ears looking at the camera in the middle and left of the pic. Is that right? Great way to keep your eyes sharp during the off season, lets see more pics like this.
  16. go on the web site "Find Person" and type in name and VA address. His phone number will show unless it is unlisted I also think it is best to talk by phone instead of a letter
  17. NJ has allowed baiting for the last few years. From what I understand, the reason given by NJ Fish & Game was that many deer in the suburban areas hang out near houses and are destroying expensive landscaping and are becoming over populated. This year NJ is also allowing bow hunting up to 150" of a home from an elevated stand & cross bows are now legal to hunt with. If these rules were not adopted, these deer will eat themselves out of house & home and die of old age. Many of these areas also have antler restrictions and have some real bruisers!
  18. No wonder you have a problem with trespassers. That waterfall and rock-face must be a huge siteseeing and rock climbing destination
  19. Wow, that is an awesome natural feature, I guess the land has been in your family for a long time?
  20. That is a real nice stand Growalot. Unfortunatly, I have to make all of my buddies remove all stands when we are not hunting. I don't want tresspasers using them when I am not around. Stands left in the woods give tresspasers clues to the better areas to hunt. Too bad that I have to do that on my own land!
